Found on Steve Dean. These minis generally cause a bit of a stir over here so I thought I post the news.

Gots - Glory of the sun.

A pity to see Copplestone releasing that sort of boring dollies.

Yes, they are quite "rank and file", aren't they? On the other hand, I would somehow consider them appropriate as I would consider the period to be primarily mass battle-oriented rather than skirmish ("3 Musketeers" and all notwithstanding).

They've got their right to exist, no doubt. It's just pity to see Copplestone releasing nothing apart from that sort of stuff.

btw, reminds me of those old GW plastic boxes.

Now that you mention it...

Can't really argue with that. I'd love to see some new Darkest Africa or BoB thingies, but that's probably quite an unrealistic hope. That said, I still have to paint the rest of my German colonials I got last year (or rather, 2009).

..or a Gurkha command group already.

He does this sometimes. His Schutztruppe and Indian infantry are all boring one-pose posses, with the only variation being in the faces. The tropical Brits are similar but at least had some slight variations of stance and pose. He excels when he does character packs, but sometimes you feel with his unit packs that his heart isn't really in it, and he is kind of phoning it in. Still, he very rarely (if ever) makes a figure you could call shit, or even average.

The thing is chaps, they're a dream to paint. Besides when painting units like this, you actually want one basic pose. Sneer, call me a fanboy, I care not.

I like them - just right for "old school" type gaming.
I prefer my rank and file to look like they have had a bit a drill training rather than the untidy "lets all do something different" untrained rabble effect!

but each to their own - which is one of the joys of this hobby of ours.

I think it's fine for your horse and musket types in their ranks and files for them to all have the same pose. For the Tropical World War One figures I was referring to, where everybody is always skirmishing, not so much...

...and his horses are sub par. I switch them for Perry plastics whenever I can. A trick Lt Hazel taught me.

He's always been one for getting the most out of his dollies. I remember painting all those Baluchis and Zanziabris a few years ago, and realising I was essentially painting the same four figures over and over, just with different arms and heads! But like Plynkes says, he does excel when it comes to the character and command packs.

Also, to be fair, I think he did say that his intention with the GoTS range was to create a slightly fairytale, almost toy soldier-like look for this particular period. So I'm sure it's deliberate, not just because he can't be bothered  ;)

But I do agree, the restriction to just two poses for musketeers across the entire range is a tad boring!

When I finally get round to painting my new Front Rank figures for the same period, we'll see how well they mix (I think they will look good together).
