A while ago, Miniature BUilding Authority had a sale I took advantage of. I got a couple mobile homes and their gas station set.
This is what the mobile homes looked like (picture from their website) (http://www.miniaturebuildingauthority.com/prodimages/Modern%20Buildings/10901-1_large.jpg) http://www.miniaturebuildingauthority.com/proddetail.asp?prod=10901
Now, I live in rural Georgia, and pass trailer homes daily and none of them look quite like this. I needed something bad guys could hang out in, SWAT guys could raid, rednecks could defend from Godless Commies, Revenuers and Zombies (as if there was a difference). In short, I needed them dirtied up and aged a little. I worked on the first one over the last week. Let me know what you think.

The interior is plain white right now. I'm not sure how I want to do it.

WOW! Its like I am driveing back in columbus lol
-
It must be great because it made me smile when I saw it :). I think your 'down-scaling' of the condition has made a huge improvement on the original.
-
So is it going to be a meth house?
-
Love it! :D
I'd likely paint it up as a construction office or some other type of trailer... but the Confed flag is just badass! :D
-
Get another 20 or so and it's MW2 all over!
Nice!
-
I think the local Harley Enthusiasts tend to call it an independant pharmacutical facility ;).
It is going to be used as one for some gaming, as a hold out for survivors for zombie gaming, and just as good all around chunk of terrain for less than urban modern and near future settings of all types.
I may do the other one as a construction office. The outside would have to not be quite as weathered.
(by the way, I am a Harley Enthusuiast!) (http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg134/CptJake_Minis/DSCN0155.jpg) me on my latest ride.

Now, I live in rural Georgia
--- Ain't nothing wrong with that! ;)
Wet a papertowel with some Elmer's white glue, add it to the roof, wait for it to dry, paint it that blue color of the tarps you've seen on mobilehomes before (and you Know you've seen that).
I've got to get some trailers for my games. Been too busy with the vehicles of late.
Good stuff! Very nice weathering!!!! :-*
Now you need to work on a tornado terrain feature.... :D
-
I own a few MBA buildings (not that one mind) and tend to leave them as sold - but you've improved that by 100%!
Love the bike by the way!
-
I got them intending to leave them as is. I am lazy. That, coupled with lack of painting time means pre-painted or painted by someone else = good).
But as I looked at them my first thought was, 'damn, two that are the same, that was stupid to buy.' Follwed soon by 'wow, those are way to nice to be in the scenarios I picture them in', so I dug out the paints.
As for the bike, it is not as loud as my last one, even with custom pipes, but it is a very smooth ride and does have some decent acceleration.
Thanks for all the compliments so far.
Jake
-
Great job, looks much better for a coat of paint.
-
:o You nailed that one! SWEET
-
Awesome! Much improved! Can't wait to see the rest of the park and the gas station!
-
This looks so cool. Nice work.
-
For your interiors, may I suggest cutting heavy paper/light cardstock to make a template for drop-in boxes, which you can then dress as you wish. A little Blue-Tack around the doorways to keep it in place, and the "rural personal fortress" can be swapped out for the "independent pharmecutical production center" or what-have-you.
-
Nice work Cpt. Jake. I live in Georgia too. So I can attest to the authenticity of your paintjob.
Are those Cav sabres in your avatar pic? I was aircav after my Infantry stint, and I too spent some time in Columbus, GA. ;)
-
Great looking trailer, much more character than the original paint scheme. One of the MBA "car on blocks" in front of that baby would complete the scene. :)
-
Splendid work, nice harley to ;) keep up the good work!
-
All it needs is some foil in the windows and a tarp or some of that thick silver patch on the roof to really set it off. Oh and a satellite dish of course...gotta have wrasslin to watch. Any plans for the washer that comes with it? ;)
-
Dont you mean Nascar?
-
Okay folks, I was able to clear coat all the yard ornaments:

My daughter (8 years old) helped base coat matresses, one of the sofas, the trash bags, and she dry brushed the tires too.

The yard trash is the cream! :P
-
Where are the coaches and trash from?
-
I've wanted that trailer for some time, but always thought it a bit too pricy....
How much of a sale did they have, and do they have one often?
Also, like Achilles, I'd like to know where you got the couches and mattresses and such from.
Oh, by the way, it's frakin' awesome! You've done a great job with it.

Fantastic company to do business with.

Are those Cav sabres in your avatar pic? I was aircav after my Infantry stint, and I too spent some time in Columbus, GA. ;)
Thanks for your service!
I cut my teeth in 1st Cav, had several positions there including BN recon platoon leader. Why walk when you can ride? Why fight when you can hide? Go CAV! (Where I actually walked a whole damned lot with a BIG damned ruck...) I too spent some time in Columbus, taking several courses at the Benning School for Wayward Boys.
-
The yard trash is the cream! :P
The sofas in particular!
-
Where is the 3-wheeled upside-down shopping cart? ::)
Seriously though, nice job. The yard trash really completes the theme.
Bubbles, Ricky and Julian would be proud.
-
i'm also really impressed with the size of the trailer. It lists as 25mm, but obviously looks great with a bit bigger figs!
-
Great job, it's very convincing! If you're not going to do the interior I would just paint it black or suitable colours for walls and floor. Of course, more detail is better 8)
Love the garden furniture 8)
-
Lovely little place with a charming decor...just needs a plaster flamingo. VERY WELL DONE!

Dont forget the rusted out project car in the back yard.
Only did the Columbus song and dance to get my schools and jump wings, then it was off to Braggastan.

Hooah Indeed. Good to know you Sir.
-
I went to their site but could not see the Gas Station. Could you show us a picture of yours?
-
The only thing missing is a large angry Pit bull and a Camaro up on blocks :D
-
The miniature building authority gas station is really their Convenience Store or Stop-N-Rob with gas pumps that I got when it was on sale. I haven't taken pictures of mine yet, it is in its box down in my storage building right now.

As for a pit bull, I got it covered! I got some more bikers and gangers from Black Cat Bases with a couple appropriate dogs, I just need to get them painted up. MBA sells a car on blocks, but I don't really like it. I've been looking for a suitable 1:43 or so scale diecast car I can trash, but have not found one I like yet.
Thanks for the comments!

Thanks for the pics!

Well, I have expanded the trailer park, finishing a couple of dumpsters, a sign (guess what movie it is from!) and a second mobile home. I'll have pictures later this weekend of a VERY expanded trailer park as I have contracted out several other pieces which came out great. For now though, here are some pictures of the stuff I finished this week:

Thanks for looking. I'm not happy with the US flag (which came on the trailer) but can't think of something suitable to replace it with. Any ideas?
Jake

Very nice!
-
I love your stuff. When will we see the whole board? :)

Hopefully later this weekend, though this weekend is proving interesting.
-
That's some really nice work Jake, love the tarp and the dumpsters. It just needs a couple of cars up on blocks.
-
Still looking for suitable cheap cars to dirty up and put on blocks, some pink flamingos, and I need to get a urban mat, BUT here is the Tophet Meadows Trailer Park, in all its glory!
I had bought the Plasticville Hobo Jungle and Trailer Park in O Scale and sent them along with a couple resin pieces to Sabol Studios ( http://www.sabolstudios.com/ and his pictures which are better than mine here: http://www.sabolstudios.com/redneck-utopia )
A bunch of pictures here: http://s247.photobucket.com/albums/gg134/CptJake_Minis/MobileHome/Full%20Trailer%20Park/

Sorry for the poor lighting. I'll try to get some better ones this week.
Jake
-
:-* KEWL ! :-*
that plasticville hobo jungle has been gnawing at me too, but shipping to Belgium makes it a bit pricey.
One day though... (if i don't scratchbuild some before that day)
-
The giant discarded cola cans. lol
-
Looks a reel nice neighbour! :D
-
Wow that's bang tidy! :o
Look's awesome especially when they are all together.
-
Looks great Cpt. How did you make the pool...or is it a resin piece? I think you have captured the look of a rural southern "community" perfectly! :D
-
The pool is something Matt at Sabol Designs threw in for the project. I can tell he made the paltform and fencing and added the water effect, but am not sure what the actual pool came from. It looks like plastic, but not sure if he used some container from something or had an appropriate scale pool laying around.
Again, Matt did a great job on the parts he did. The scratch built barrel grill in the picnic shelter is a very cool add in too.
Jake
-
Daaaaaamn, this is awesome....!!!!
-
The used-toilet flower planter really adds realism to the piece. That's as authentic as it gets. Great layout. :-*
-
Greater than the sum of it's parts... now git off ma lawn boy!
-
Yeah, the pool is just a plastic container/cup-thing. I've got one in my discarded plasticware bin. :)
-
"I'm not happy with the US flag (which came on the trailer) but can't think of something suitable to replace it with. Any ideas?"
Try this;
find pictures of flags online copy and past and print out a sheet. seal the printer ink by spraying with some testers dull coat, cut out flags and glue to surface using white glue a black and white POW flag would be a great addtion with this set.
-
Its starting to look really great, Jake! :D
Now I'm just waiting for them two Camden Brothers... ;)
-
"a black and white POW flag would be a great addtion with this set.
As would a confederate flag....
Great idea on the printout though, i'll try that for my stuff!
-
One of 'em has a confederate flag already:

Yes, I realize I got the number of 'stars' wrong... :-[

This might be fun to ;)

A brilliant set of scenery there and I love all the little touches that add life to it all (like the plastic sheeting on the roof held down with bricks). Excellent work. :D

Painted up a few residents of Tophet Meadows.
First up, Dirty Pete:

As some of you know, I have been painting and otherwise expanding my tailer park and the inhabitants.
This week I painted up some Brigade Games Boondockers from their Atomic Cafe line. One had a slightly miscast base and foot but some putty fixed that. Minimal flash, and very characterful figures. Fantastic faces. The one with a cleaver could probably be painted as a zombie, but I've made them all as live inbred inhabitants of Tophet Meadows Trailer Park.
I also got back some figures I had sent to Garden Ninja Studios to have painted for me. Drew there did a FANTASTIC job, and I can not recommend their services enough. http://www.gardenninja.com/
Anyway, here are some pictures:
Inbred Hicks (painted by me):
Some LAF minis drew did, mixed with some other figures he did, and the figures I did to show how they compare in size:
What's the matter Son, don't cha like clowns? Don't they make ya laugh?

Very nice! Who makes that clown?
-
Great update.Like the painting on these.
-
Thanks, I saw them on this LAF thread:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=18679.msg225232#msg225232
And used the contact info provided to buy Captain Spaulding and his clan. Great figures, very well cast.
Jake
-
Thanks for the hook up and they DO look mighty fine!
-
Great work. These minis in situ remind me of my mother's side of the family.
-
Got done on a truck for the residents of my trailer park. I painted up this resin peice from Ainsty Castings ( http://ainstycastings.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/475 )
This has been primed for ever, sat base coated for over 3 weeks, and I finally finished it up this weekend. I don't know what happened but I got Painter's Block on it and just couldn't figure out exactly what or how I wanted to do this... Anyway, it is not perfect, probably not even good, but minus a clear coat it is DONE!
Jake
WARNING: expect to be amazed at the poor lighting in the following pictures. I hate rainy days!

NIce work Jake.
Looks like the place you don't wann go looking for help when your car breaks down, very atmospheric.
-
Nice truck!
-
Finished up a nifty little resin terrain piece from Rusty Rail ( http://rustyrail.com/OMiniScenesCastings.htm ) who make some fantastic stuff! ;D
Anyway, I sprayed on a white primer coat after scrubbing the resin with dish soap. Painted with cheap craft paints as I am prone to do. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

Cool! Makes me want to crank up the stereo and put Andre Williams Car with the Star on. Nice effects on the copper.
-
Thanks. I was worried about the copper patina. I have never tried to do that before. I'm pretty happy with the effect, especially for a first attempt.
-
What a lovely and unusual collection.
-
Great stuff! Very full of character and looks like a fun setting to game.
-
Not a major update, but what trailer park could be complete without Pink Flamingos! A flock would be Divine! lol
These are from Armorcast under the Ginfritter line. Painted with craft paints and bsed on washers.
In the game 'It Came From Betond the Still', the Greys can place sensors disguised as pink flamingos, so these serve a game purpose as well as decoration which I why I based them individually vice on existing terrain items or in small flocks.
Enjoy! a few more pictures here: http://s247.photobucket.com/albums/gg134/CptJake_Minis/MobileHome/Trailer%20Trash%20details/

Really cool! :-*
I love the pink flamingo idea. lol
I really love this thread and I reread it from time to time.
-
Wonderful addition. I don't live in a trailer park, but I have a neighbor who thinks pink flamingoes are de rigeur.
-
Jake,
Any man who can get a refernce to a John Waters' film into a thread commands respect. I love it. :)
BTW, by a strange coincidence I saw some for sale yesterday in the SAARA market, when I went to pick my wife up from her course. Bizarre, it seems their appeal is universal, although I'm yet to see one adorning someone's yard in Brazil
