This could probably go in the Gothic Horror thread as well, but I thought you might like to see these:

Eight new packs, some quite nice figures, like Fagin in this one:

but some sculpts look to be of lower quality.

TBH I was of the opinion that Foundry had lost it big time but these are their best release in a very long time and do appeal to be fair.
Some recognisable donor figures I noticed after a quick glance so definately some conversions amongst them.
Ultimately though, am I going to pay a tenner for two couples and a dog for scenery?

Nope.
Am I going to wait for Dave Thomas to have them in his eBay shop for a realistic price? More than likely. ;)
But yes, better than the rest of their recent output. And they have some very naughty ladies.
-
Agreed, there are some gems (Fagin, Ladies of the Evening, a few others) among a lot of otherwise stiffly-posed and unremarkable figures.
-
I like the the two top right Ne'erdowells.
-
When did Foundry move to 5 figures in a pack? They have just had a price rise IIRC!
-
Not all gems I agree, but the first new figures from Foundry to tempt me at all in many a long year. Well done to them!
-
Almost good enough to buy, almost, but a bit expensive for scenery to be honest. Its a shame, :(
-
The market traders could be useful....
-
They dont look too bad to me , and I would agree they are the best of the recent releases and as I collect Victoriana for a future project I will certainly be getting, bit worrying that its the 'first release', my wallets taking a battering at the moment. Dont want to get into the anti/pro foundry thing again but although 5 figures for £10.0 is quite a lot, if you buy the collection at a 20% discount it comes down to £1.40 ea , still a lot but comparable to some other manufactuers.
-
Some nice figures, they will fit with the Gangs of newyrok TVAG, Brigade and others also the Perry stuff
-
I find Foundry models to be excellent quality, but the price tag is ridiculous and far from what I would/could pay for that amount of models.... :? Especially compared to other manufacturers.
I looked at their ranges for WW2, Wild West and 7 Year war stuff but ended up buying from various other places.
-
I thought several of the women seemed to be leaning at odd angles. In my mind a Victorian lady should be standing upright, held in place by her corset.
-
I think they're brilliant and I really want them,!
-
Are these sculpted by the same person who done a lot of the westwind stuff. They all seem to be standing at strange angles with one leg streched out. Same as a lot of the westwind ones I have.
-
Could we decide if we want them wooden and upright or leaning at a angle? :D
-
More zombie-fodder for Pappa Midnight methinks. ;)

We have already decided we both thought they were at funny angles :D
-
I like them, not sure i like the price.
Colin the westwind models are excellent although there is a huge price difference
Westwind £5 for 4 models
Foundry £10 for 5 models
...hmm
Cheers

My foundry web site says £14 for 6 rugga ruggas or in fact any other pack. I think it's some weird setting though.. It can't be serious.

Heh!Heh!Heh!...............
They are some nice sculpts amongst them (and some which need very little conversion to Zeds). The price is pretty high BUT it's the postage fee for orders under £80.00 which always puts me off.......8 Quid, you're pulling my....

Yeah, it is ridiculous. I love the blurb about this issue on their FAQs:
Many companies in our industry treat postage as a variable cost item based upon order values and use a percentage value of the order as a basis for the postage charge; we feel that this is an unfair method of charging as there are many fixed as well as semivariable and variable costs in its calculation - the fixed costs include for example the costs of processing the order, invoicing the order, etc etc, the semi variable costs include for example the packaging and picking time etc etc, the variable costs for example relate to insurance, the postage and processing cost itself as well as other things.
To apply some formula for the recovery of these various types of costs would not only be difficult to apply but would also be so convoluted to explain that we feel that it could only lead to customer confusion.
We at Foundry feel that for clarity and understanding there is a need for the Postage charge to be as simple and as clear as possible and feel that, in view of the above, that a fixed cost recovery charge is the simplest method to apply to all orders.
Simple for who? Not my wallet, that's for damn sure...

They do have a 20% off at the moment and I've just got the collection along with a few other figures and some paints. Worked out quite cheap in the end, about £1.20something per figure (where's the embarrassed smiley when you need it lol )
cheers

Some nice ones, but still the huge hands syndrome, I am afraid the ladies are very big... Anyway, not half as nice as the old (Copplestone's?) sculpts of the Far West civilians range.
-
What's the difference between a "variable" and a "semi-variable" cost? Is it like "unique" and "very unique"? :?
Sounds like bollocks, to me lol
Are they not capable of working out a simple percentage that will effectively cover their postage/packing etc costs, based on many years of mail-order trading? They have lost sooooooooo much trade from me over the years because of this nonsense.
The new figures are generally very nice though.
-
The figures look good IMHO, but when you buy them from EU, the price raises to 16 E. a pack, and that's £13.5. Not mentioning the huge shipping charges. (And no way to buy in pounds if you have them shipped outside UK).

That's a very big "ouch"! :-[

Things are almost as bad if you buy from US: thats $20,43 a pack, or more than £12.5. I'm wondering how they do calculate the exchange rate (non updated pre-crisis rates?).

Compared to most of Foundry's recent output, I rather like them :)
-
To be honest I dont mind that price tag too much (would prefer them cheaper though so Dave T is the best bet in a couple of months) as they are character figures and many are following £2 a pop these days
-
I really like them but just cannot decide if I need all the packs to get them without paying for shipping. I was looking for something to make up the difference and saw the Pygmies are 14 pounds for six figures even though they show seven figures in the pack. I'm a big fan of Foundry but am finding myself wondering if its worth it.
I have a coupon for 20% off so may just go ahead and order them anyway.
I had an idea of using them with the Lead Adventure Steam Punk figures but cannot think of a way of doing it just yet.
-
I like this range - best they've done in a while and with figures I don't recall seeing elsewhere (for example that chimney sweep!)
I only tend to buy from Foundry when they have an offer on or send an e-mail voucher out! So will hang on till then!
Strangely though, if you work it out it's only £1.60 a figure and yet I hesitate to buy, yet sometime I have no worries about buying an individual figure from another manufacturer at £2.50 - £3.00 each.
Go figure that one out!
