I need one...any thoughts on who makes them? Who makes the 'best'...thanx!
-
Fenris games have one in their ebay store I think.
-
Fenris make a "Glasgow Police Box" available from Ian(geronimo) direct or via Hasslefree.

I've got one and it measures up well. :)
-
Thanx. That was fast.
Next Question: Anyone know of a reasonable proxy figure for (Peter Cushing as...) Dr.Who from the movie 'Daleks: Invasion Earth??? And all the extras for that matter...
-
Note, though, that while otherwise admirable, the Fenris model has entirely the wrong configuration of panels on the door, and the wrong sign on each side, to impersonate the TARDIS. It does, however, look just like a real police box in Glasgow.
Easily the best 28mm TARDIS is the die-cast one sold by the Sci-Fi Collector's Centre in a pack with an oversized Dalek Sec for £10. You can see examples on my Doctor Who 2010 thread.

Ainsty, but you have to ask about it.

Black Tree did a Cushing Dr Who, a little Susie Who, and a movie Roboman, as well as a box of "London Resistance" and some Daleks with the big ears and the grabber rather than the sucker. They also did Barbara Who from the first movie.

Old Crow just announced that they've sold the Ainsty lines to someone else. Don't know who yet.

My guess would be Armorcast.
I like the Hasslefree Tardis...

Ian's Glaswegian police phone box is a police phone box, there's one about 30 yards from his workshop down at Chatham docks, if some of you wish to use it as this TARDIS you speak of, then your call ;) (Oh and Steve F think about it a bit (re IP), you'll get the idea... ::) Let's not bring button counting to the table eh?
Mike: I'm seeing Ian in a few weeks, want me to pick on up for you from you funds?
The Commander

This is the Old Crow/Ainsty one with a selection of timelords. You've probably got a short wait to get one though as (as has been mentioned) the range is changing hands. As you can see they do a clear resin one as well as an opaque one.

the Fenris one is nice, but is a little narrow for my tastes... the Ainsty one is a cracker in my mind... and they also did a console... once... many moons ago...
-
Did you ever finish your tardis interior Chris?
-
not beyond the console room
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=9786.0
have the bits for the new series console room, but stalled with the coral... stalled on how best to do a maze like interior as well for the dungeon crawl... will come up with something

The thing is, the BBC owns the IP not just to TARDISes, but to Police Boxes in general too. They won a court case against the Metropolitan Police a good few years ago. So we're stuffed whatever we say or do!

Shame would have liked to see the old interior a bit more developed. Be good to see what comes of the new one though.

See the fenris one is grand by me, but then I'm not a panel counter, nor do I watch much Dr Who beyond Tom Baker because it's either null or too damned middle-classed-pseudo sci-fi merchandising opportunity.
p.s. My newsagent Tarquin put 83 copies of DWA aside for me that's one maasive Dalek army ya?

83 copies? that's not an army, that's half the population of Skaro!! :o :)

Hehehehe
I can think of two police boxes in Glasgow, and both are now coffee booths ;)
One is in the West End outside the Botanics and the second is on Buchanan Street. :D
Cheers

To use an old army phrase "some people just have to kick the arse out of it"!
lol lol lol
edit Oh and I'd recommend buying from Hasslefree. I got one of the Tardis models they sell and as always the whole transaction was flawless :D

There are quite a few in Edinburgh and almost all seem to be coffee booths or sandwich bars.
Completely different design though.
But there is one in Scarborough Harbour that is still in service.

Never mind the panels all these boxes are more like 40mm scale-way too wide and tall-have a look at an episode with a doctor whose height you know and check it out, the Hornby 1/76 scale is closer than these but is a bit too small around 1/60 scale should be aboyt correct but i dint think one exists. Card anyone? If comparing a model use a figure without its base to get a better comparison. ;)
-
way too wide and tall-
They're about right for 21st century Who, which uses a larger prop.
The 1963-1989 version was a fair bit smaller, as the original prop was built to fit into the BBC's oldest and smallest studio.

wide certainly... but not necessarily too tall, even the original prop was quite tall

i was thinking of proper adult size people like the 2 Bakers not gnomes like Eccles-cake or mccoy.
Tom fills most of the door height wise. :)

Scroll down for a good size comparison .

I don't know if its the best, but I have one of these:
http://www.wowstuff.co.uk/product/Tardis-Emergency-Fund/20 (http://www.wowstuff.co.uk/product/Tardis-Emergency-Fund/20)
It is the right size for 28mm and I'm planning to fix it up.

From the comparison photo it's clear that the redhead is exactly the right size. :-*
