I've had a bit of a break from modelling/painting and needed a little bit of a kick to get going again.
It was my Birthday last week and as a little treat I went to the Tank Museum in Bovington in England. It had some really impressive stuff ( King Tiger, the ONLY remaining Sherman DD, Panthers etc). On being "Up Close" with a Tiger 1 it got me motivated to do some more Weird War stuff.
I finally finished my "Gunther" walker by Dust Games and another three armored fighting suits.
Here's the Gunther:

And here's me pretending to be the proud owner of a Tiger 1:

Anyone who hasn't been to Bovington, I highly recommend it!!!
BTW: Anyone tell me what "Armoured Fighting Walker" would be in German please?

It´s "Panzerkampfläufer" 8) or "Schwerer Panzerkampfläufer" for Heavy
-
Oh that's super cool!
-
Awesome, I'll have 12!
-
Happy Birthday, PM, and that´s SUCH a lovely beastie you´ve got there. And thanks for not applying camo spots. Just wouldn´t look right on it, methinks.
-
Thanks for the comments! :)
Cheers Lt.Hazel. I take it that "Panzerkampfläufer" would be "PzKpfl" then?

Thanks Chris! I thought Camo would be a bit of a waste of time as it's so big!!!

Hey Pm,
You look different without your top hat, shades and the haircut
-
really great walker. I like it.
-
That looks fantastic! Any chance of seeing a scale shot with a 28mm fig in the pic? Really inspiring!

great paint job! would like to see some figures next to it for size comparison! awesome work!

Ha, I'm in disguise. I didn't want to frighten the staff at the tank museum!!!!
Ref: Size Comparison. I'll set up some minis with the finished product but I put these pre-paint pictures in another post.

No suprises there!! Great stuff Pappa. I always enjoy looking at your collection, some very impressive pieces :)
-
Looks great, the Super Panzermecha. :)
Do you have a game in mind for this one?
-
Nice paint job. I like the weathering. I haven't really looked at any of the Dust models before. It sure would look intimidating on the table.
-
Thank you for the comments!
Revford: For rules I'm waiting upon "Secrets of the Third Reich" by Westwind although I have been looking at doing a mod for the excellent "Rules of Engagement" by Great Escape Games.
In any case I would probably field this beastie as an objective ( calling in an Airstrike to take it out or using a commando team to destroy it whilst it's in a repair yard).

Lovely model. Makes me want to build mine now, but I really ought to finish the other stuff on my workbench first. :)
Did you decide not to bother with a tank (or should that be walker) commander figure after all?
-
Excellent stuff PM!
Good to see you 'IN REAL LIFE' too....
You look rather normal for a master of all that is zombie-ish (amongst other things!!)
Love to see some different angles if it isn't too much trouble!
-

I like the repair yard idea, sounds like that has a ton of potential.
Some kind of giant scaffolding would be cool to go around it, have the heroes climbing up to plant explosives and fighting repair crews and guards on the way.
-
Thanks WhiteKnight. I bought the tank commander from BoltAction and di a head swap using a Westwind "GasMask" head. He's now mounted in my scout walker. I'll post some pics shortly.
Cheers SV! When you say you want different angles you do mean the Walker........... I'll post some different shots shortly.
Revford: Without enough Allied stuff finished yet I think it would be unbalancing to use it as part of a force. I thought the repair yard idea was pretty good as allowed me to field it without worrying about hammering the Allies too much. I thought it could run along similar lines as attacking a submarine pen. I do like the idea of planting explosives, I can almost see it now.....An elite group of commandos, dodging sentries and searchlights......

The other cool idea might be a sneak allied attack/raid with the Germans having to race to the machine and turn bits of it on (like the legs, each gun etc.).

Thanks... now I have that mental image of a guard Schäferhund humping the mech´s leg armour... :lipps: :D
That "blow the beastie in its pen" approach sounds most sensible indeed. I have to think about that scene in "Decision at Thunder Rift", though, where the Kurita garrison fools the guerilla Mercs into thinking "that Shadowhawk on the transport rig is deactivated... we should steal it"... nb, THINKING. ;) :D

Bob: "'Ere, Bert can you hear summink?"
Bert: "Y'right Bob, ah can. What tha bleedin' 'ell is that? Sounds like it be comin' over the hill."
Nipper the Dog: "Hrrph, hrrph, HRRPH!"
Kapitan Kross: "Feberwald, get this damn dog off my mechas leg! How the hell are we suppossed to ambush the enemy when that blasted beast keeps humping our leg. I should have stayed in the Panzer corps..."
-
Funnily enough I have got a 28mm guard dog..............

Awesome stuff, you ar building quite a collection there :)
-
Great work! Agree with the many remarks on the lovely weathering.
-
Thanks for the comments! :)
I have, however shot myself in the foot, so to speak. Having built this monster I'm trying to find a huge Allied beast to take it on ........ with not much luck!!

Stunning, but you already knew that.
Do you have any close-ups of the scout walker pilot? :)
-
PM
I only just read this thread tonight, otherwise I would have replied earlier.
Next time you or any other member of this group are visiting the Bovington tank museum or in the general area let me know. I only live a few miles from the museum and it would be nice to meet up and put faces to names.
-
Thanks WhiteKnight!
Here's a picture of the walker , complete with pilot. I'll take a better a shot when I've got some time.

Small World Bullshot!! Very nice part of the country you live in AND very close to an exceptionally cool museum!
Next time I'm in the area I'll give you a shout.

papa, on the hanomag walker, what figure did you use for the pilot? i think its a westwind head change? is the body a tamiya figure?
-
It's funny, I haven't been to Bovvy since I was a little tot. Yet in the intervening years I've been to the French equivalent, the Musée des Blindés at Saumur three times!
Really must get down there some time.

The head is from Westwind and the body is from BoltAction Miniatures:

It's the late German Tank Commander.

I'd like a website for Dust and for where to buy this technological terror you're constructed?
(wheeeze....wheeezeeee....;)).
The Commander

The Dust Website is:
http://www.dustgame.com/new/
It hasn't been updated for a while but it has ot a contact facility.
Your best bet is to keep a look out on Ebay ( I picked mine up for about £15.00)
Hope that helps

Only just seen this - magnificent.
British opponents - well, I'd go for a thickset walking version of the ubiquitous Churchill tank, armed with a Crocodile flame thrower. Or a NELLIE-type Trench Digger/TOG tank hybrid of vast proportions - you don't have to fight walkers with walkers.
-
It's a really great walkers you made. I like the way you paint them.
-
Thank you for the comments Vanvlak and Poulppy! :)
I've been a little quiet on the modelling front lately due to a lot of "Real Life" stuff going on but I should have a Russian Walker built up soon which makes the "Gunther" look a bit small!!!!!!
