Title: Policing the Green Frontier. Part One - The Two Tribes.
Post by: Brummie on 26 February 2011, 09:39:40 PM
"Kill all they send, and they will stop coming."
-Lt. Col. Nguyen Huu, We were soldiers.-

Intro: After some inspiration from the 'GW bursting at the seams again' thread of creating a sort of Goblin/Orcish Insurgency game, I decided to give it a shot, whether I will find any players to play as the opposition or invading forces is another matter! But I decided it was worth setting up a background and getting the figures together!! What rules I will use is another matter, but any suggestions would be great!

Miniatures:
Insurgents: Well given the shortage of Goblins and Orcs around here, it shall be a mixture. The Goblins, or a majority of, will be Games Workshop, done by either me, or the 'Boss'. The Orcs will all be done by the 'Boss' and are actually, older than me, so any help identifying where these orcs came from would be appreciated!
Elves: Mantic/Reaper Elves done by me, will be showing these tomorrow (fingers crossed).

The Green Frontier!

The Orcs of the Fenatian Valley's had for centuries been an isolated society. The large Mountains surrounding their homeland had helped greatly in keeping outsiders out. And for the most part, the Fenatian Orcs were grateful for it.
To the East of the Fenatian Valleys was a vast expanse of land known as the Steppes of Kethos. Roaming tribes of Centaurs, Satyr and Human Horse Tribes dominated this stretch of land, and, because of the mountains, rarely ventured near Fenatia nor even deemed the place worthy of plundering. To the north sat the Great Lakes; mostly a vast wooded wilderness with little in it save for the Human Domain of Cyrus, nestled in its own valley similar to Fentia, and conveniently inbetween the two Great Lakes of Capracia and Terus; an important trade route between the Western and Eastern civilisations.
The Fenatian Orcs rarely had to worry about the Kingdom of Cyrus either, the Humans and their 'colonials': enslaved Elves, Orcs and other beings, rarely saw Fenatia worthy of being probed for resources or farmland. Especially given the sizeable expanse of nothing in between them, the dangers and logistical issues it was never considered worth the effort.
South of Fenatia was in some cases a different story. For this land expanded into the many and varied human Kingdoms if one travelled long enough. And more often than not Human expeditionary forces of various peoples would often brave the Troll ridden passes leading to the Valley in search of trade or plunderable goods. But rarely did that ever pose a threat to Orcish sovereignty in Fenatia.
However, that all changed in the year 300 PE. For, in the East, beyond the mountains that separated the Fentian Valley with the rest of the world, grew none other than a great and powerful Empire. The Imperial High Elves had, after much turmoil, finally ended the Civil War over which family would form a new Dynasty and Ruling Elite. The new Ruling Family, the Amandan Dynasty, after securing their position with much bloodshed, quickly began plans for expanding the Empire.
Of these Plans, which involved a renewed attempt at subjugating the Kingdom of Cyrus, a new path way to the Steppes and a buffer zone between the Empire and the Southern Human kingdoms became a top priority.
This of course, meant that the Fenatian orcs soon found themselves in the wake of a large, invading Elven Army. Within a few weeks, the vast majority of Orcish villages and tribes had been decimated, either by Elven Dragons, or by Elven Scouts and Rangers: Elite troops who would always soften the enemy before the larger chunk of the force moved in.
However, the Elven Armies pursued their conquest of the Fentian Valley with such vigour and aggression that they made no attempt to send their forces to pursue the Orcs fleeing their destroyed homes. Nor did they think to send their troops into the greater areas of the mountains to decimate the always problematic Goblin Tribes. This error would in effect cost the Elves dearly, and soon, the scattered Orcish Tribes would quickly regroup, and after much 'negotiation' with their new goblin Neighbours, form the basis of an Insurgency, to regain Fenatia.

The First Tribe: The Gromaz Tribe.
[/b]

The Gromaz had dwelled within the southern regions of Fentia. Numerous in comparison to the other tribes, they were often more prone to having a warlike nature that dwarfed the already aggressive nature of other tribes. However the Fenatian Orc Tribes are an Orcish race unto themselves, and this should be explained first before continuing with the Gromaz. There are many types of orc, and many live hundreds if not thousands of miles from each other. Some orcs, are large, Brutish, bloodthirsty, such are the Orcs that dwell in the Breccan Wilds or along the Frozen faults. Other Orcs are more majestic in nature and in many ways have the civilised manner of a human or elf, whilst retaining a sinister tribal ferocity only an Orc can possess. The Fenatian orcs, one type of orc amongst many, however, are considered the bottom of the pile. They are Cowardly, often weak, stupid, and come in a variety many would consider a result of a fault in the gene pool. For instance, some have two heads, whilst others are the size of Goblins, some are built heavier than an ogre, whilst others have the physical strength of a Gnome. They are, in short, the rejects of the Orcish world.

The Gromaz tribe however, despite its often crippling variety of orcs, was not one to give in lightly, in Fentian Orc society, with so few Strong, Aggressive Orcs, there is little competition between them over who will be Chief, and these orcs would often form big gangs to bully the other orcs and to do battle with the bigger orcs of other tribes. At the Time of the invasion, the Gromaz Tribes Chief, Lord Gromaz the Unimaginative and his advisor Tibut the Unfortunate, had the very fortunate gift of having time to react to the Elven invasion, and quickly fled the Elven Dragons swooping in to decimate their home. Along the way Gromaz would plunder the stores of other Orcish tribes that had fled, or that had been left after the attacks if any. He quickly recruited the other orcs of other tribes (the vast majority of Bigger meaner orcs having been incinerated as they tried to fight of the Elven Dragons).
Soon Gromaz had a sizeable force he could call upon, and it would be Tibut who would soon implement the wonders of waging a very devious, cowardly yet effective insurgency campaign! A very Fenatian War it would be indeed!

After retreating into the mountains, Gromaz soon found himself beset by Trolls and Goblins, but soon found his tribe a new home, after jack booting a minor Goblin Tribe: The Spoutnoses into submission. He soon used this as his base of operations and began planning the overthrow of the Elven Imperialists and the conquering of all Fenatia to form his own mighty Empire!

However there are always drawbacks to any campaign, but this did not come in the form of logistics or discipline, Orcs never considered this a grave problem in the first place. Instead it came in the form of Gromaz's younger brother, an orc who even other Fenatian Orcs considered a waste of good green flesh and bone: Bruntus the Annoying. With everything going so well even Gromaz whos brain is mostly made of Green mush... Or mashed Peas, could foresee Bruntus surviving the Elven onslaught only to curse the Bulky Chief with incessant questioning and silly blunders, that would ultimately lead to a terrible migraine.
And every orc knows the only way to be rid of a migraine is, killing something, taking a club to ones own head, or pushing crayons up your nose.

Chief Gromaz the Unimaginative in all his glory, this orc lost his eye supposedly in battle (though some eyewitnesses claim it was a pointy branch) he is mean, he is green, and its debatable whether he truly is a killing machine. On the other hand, he has kept his tribe safe thus far, and has proven an able commander for Fenatian orc standards.

Tibut the Unfortunate. Many confuse this filthy cloaked shaman as a Goblin, that being the curse of a Fenatian orc. Tibut is often the target of bad jokes made by the other orcs in the Gromaz Clan, but he is extremely clever, something that is just as rare with Fenatian orcs. Many say Tibut wandered the world, and was once taught by some of the more majestic Orcish cousins who live beyond the lands of Cyrus. He is the mastermind of the Fenatian War Machine, but he himself wouldn't last a second in battle.

Bruntus the Annoying. This orc, the brother of Gromaz, is often found lounging about in the old tribal Warmeet, a place where Orcs of all levels of society would meet up, drink, fight, tell bad jokes and stories and generally do things most other beings would lose control of their gut over. He is useless in all aspects of orcish life save for being useless. Alas Gromaz still puts up with him, as for Tibut, despite Bruntus often being the source of Tibuts bullying, the shaman also wishes for the village idiot to keep breathing.

Captain Wolfmop Hide. Wolfmop Hide is Gromaz's right hand orc. Wolfmop was once a Fenatian Mercenary and served under the command of various Brigands and Raiders across the steppes, rumour even has it he was once hired by a band of Pirates, and has fought both the Mercians and the Hrodmen in the west. He is adept at barking out commands, and even has the ability to keep ogres in check, which is something.

Thanuk Warriors. The Thanuk are a rare breed of warrior orc within Gromaz society. They are in some ways the Knights of their civilisation, they just do not have any aspect that Human knights could relate to. They Bully, they murder, they lie, and are generally the most anti-social of all Fenatians. However, their expertise and heavy armour makes them the heavy elite troops of the Gromaz Tribe, and are often used as the Hammer upon the Anvil in ambushes on Elven troops.

When Tibut began reorganising the Gromaz forces, it was the orcs who could use a bow, and were quick footed that Tibut made a heavy emphasis on. Though fairly green (excuse the pun) at their job, the Gromazin Skirmishers and Sharpshooters are insurgents in the making. Often targeting Elven officers, Dragon riders, or simply carrying out hit and run, they try to damage any morale that the Battle hardened Elves may even vaguely need to keep fighting.

Logisticorcs. These orcs, are meant to the orcs who are just too unreliable in battle to bother putting in the field. Many would stay at home and act as what we would call 'civilians' but since the elves are quite adamant on wiping out all orcs, Gromaz has made sure all Orc, male or female, who cannot fight, is now apart of Tibuts 'Logisticorcs' or in Gromazin 'Logiz!' These lot are put to work keeping the war machine of their Chief going. However more often than not Real fighting orcs are needed to keep them working!

Ambushers! Who can fight an Insurgency without a good deal of hit and run? Gromazin Ambushers are not primarily designed to kill the enemy, though they will do so if the chance shows itself. These orcs, much smaller than other orcs, often hide in the undergrowth, in long grass, or in dark forests, they will hide in the brambles alongside narrow pathways, and wait for the enemy to pass by. They will then probably use their weapons to kneecap the foe, maim, injure and kill when possible, before withdrawing into the wilderness. They often act as the Avant-Garde of Fenatian forces, and are used to sabotage elven communications. However, the Ambushers also suffer the highest fatality rate of all the forces involved!

More ambushers!

More orc pics of the Gromaz tribe, the -other- orc tribe and more still to come!

That is EXCELLENT! I love the whole package as a solo gamer & Goblin/Underdog fan. The background material is inspired & inspirational. While the Orcs might not quite be award winning minis, they are VERY COOL nonetheless. Please keep us updated as the campaign develops; I for one look forward to the continuing exploits of the Gromaz.

Cool story line.  I can't wait to see what you do with it.  What type of terrain will you be using in this project?

Will be using a mixture of terrain, but mostly GW stuff, I found a lot of grassy hill/cliff terrain and hedges in the loft thats been put away unused for many, many years, and I doubt its sold anymore in GW stores.

Will be posting the rest of the Gromaz Tribes little friends and the other tribes; The Rendafel Tribes orcsies up, will try and get some scenery shots just to show.

If I have the cash I may well try and make some more unique scenery with a bit more feel to it, if time permits. My Elves will be going on shortly after the orcs! The only thing in the way at the moment is Work, prep for Uni assignments, and packaging the 40k stuff I sold on ebay I will need to mail of tomorrow!

Yes, these belonged to my dad, then one day he gave them to me to play about with when the time came! Its why some of their bases may look a little broke. They have seen a lot of action in their time besieging castles and plundering ancient treasures.

Heaven only knows though if they will carry on to see another generation of the family mind!

Some great old minis you've got there Brummie!

You should go the whole nine yards and get oldschool elves for them to fight. Ditch the mantic knobrot! =)

lol I actually quite like the Mantic stuff!

However, I think we do have some of the uber old Elves as well, so it may well be worth me using them as the Avant-garde until the Elven army is fully up and running! So thanks for the reminder!

Here are some more Orcs! The essential backbone of any Orcy Insurgency!

These Orcs form the backbone of every orc tribe anywhere: The Warriors. Though Fenatian Orcs are far from the most ruthless, the most brave of orcs, in times of desperate need any species can rise above itself to face of any threat. However, Fenatian orcs have rarely if perhaps ever faced of against a well disciplined large enemy force. Fenatian Orcs, Gromaz included have often based their 'warfare' on individual brawls. Rarely will another orc tribe dwell upon raiding another tribes very villages or stores, simply because many might die in the process or it would take too long or require too much effort. Unlike their much larger, savage or majestic orcs living in the wilds or the wastelands who often have big armies, or the need for lots of armour and weapons, the Fenatians have never seen a need.

Much of Fenatian warfare is based on small gang like fights in a designated spot. The weapons Fenatians use could be anything, from rusted swords or axes simply found in ruins or abandoned outposts of Human kingdoms, or home made, crude devices, to farm tools. Bows are the most common of weapons when it comes to ranged firepower for Fenatian warriors, but these are made by the uncommon sort of Fenatian orc who is active and will hunt for the rest of the tribe. Shields on the other hand are often used by more 'influential' orcs, though most of the time they are for show; It is not unheard of for Arrows or weapons to tear straight through a Fenatian shield as if it was paper. As for those orcs whom are armoured, they are the rarest of all orcs in Fenatian society, often only chiefs or a few of his bodyguard will have armour. Those not involved in this circle are often kept clear of, and are considered to be the only sort of orc in Fenatian society who takes war, and war making seriously!

None Orc Allies of the Gromaz
[/b][/color]

Ogres are the strangest of all creatures to walk the earth. Like all other species, Humans, Orcs, Elves, Dwarves, there are many distinct types that fit into that category. But unlike these other races, what makes Ogres so special, are there are so many variations, so many different branches evolved from a few single Ogres, the very term 'Ogre' has come to be used in context with anything that does not share any roots with any other being recorded!

The Mage Vussandrius of the Holy College of Antipraetor has been the only individual to attempt such a feat, in his long life he accounted for over a hundred different species of Ogre all shared a special ancestral root and shared a distant link with Orcs, Goblins and even Humans. Unfortunately Vussandrius and the fine detail of his work was lost during the Steppe wars, and Vussandrius himself was slain when Antipraetor fell to the Steppe peoples Army and was thus sacked and eventually burnt to the ground. Not that this mattered to any Fenatian orc though.

The Fenatians are somewhat weary of Ogres. Any Ogre. If a Fenatian Orc had to fight for his life desperately before the Elves came, it was against Ogres. Ogres strike fear into Fenatians as the natural predator (Though some would consider the Wolfkin the most dangerous predators, or even the odd stray Dragon) but even Gromaz has nightmares of Ogres, because unlike the Wolfkin or Dragons, they are always somewhere in the Fenatian valleys!
Luckily for Gromaz, Tibut and Wolfmop are very knowledgeable in Ogre language and ways, especially Fenatian, and only one other tribe in the Fenatian Valleys know how to tame Ogres. Gromaz was blessed because this meant his tribe was often safe from Fenatian Ogres, whilst only one other tribe really had the ability to woo Ogres to do their bidding!

When the Elves invaded this became a much needed boon. There were some drawbacks, for a start many Ogres had been turned into large piles of ash by patrolling Elven Dragons. Whilst the others, stressed out by the sudden change went beserk killing a large number of Orcs and Elves alike. It should be noted most Fenatian Ogres have slow minds and are in many ways fearful of change, some lucky observers have noted that many ogres suffer from a sort of Ogreish Autism! Though this is often speculation not fact, since the majority of backers for this theory have often been eaten.

Either way soon Gromaz had his more intelligent advisors rally those ogres that had calmed down or had trailed after the orcs in startled wonder. So far the Ogres have proven themselves very able of acting as good raiding troops, or able to buffer up an Orcish assault force. However only lower valley Fenatian Ogres have proven themselves reliable, as the Mountain Ogres have often proved more hostile and thus untrustworthy!

Your typical everyday Fenatian Ogre. This one though has taken to wearing cloths and carrying an axe. A sure sign of being more civilised? Not at all! Anyone with arms and even a thread of intelligence can put cloths on! Though this Ogre would certainly rank out as Boss Ogre in his society!

This Ogre is a very rare kind of Ogre. Though it has been recorded that on the western coastlines beyond Mercia and Elven lands there is a nation of Ogres who can forge their own armour, have their own ancient laws and customs. Very few of these creatures have been seen outside of that land. However, since these Ogres do not have written records, it is difficult to confirm if they trade or venture outside their lands. That was until a Mercian Adventurer by the name of Mark Lucius, claimed he had found a colony of such Ogres trading with Minotaur and Steppe Men on the fringes of southern Fenatia. He also claimed that many Fenatian Ogres had began settling near the civilised Ogres and had begun trading for weapons and armour. Mark Lucius was later to be discredited after being found guilty of courting a Mercian Kings daughter. Since then all such information he gathered on the armour these Ogres made and wore, where they were and why they traded with Fenatians has since been forgotten.

The Endefel Tribe

"Gather around Brethren!" Goateater pushed his way through the collection of refugee orcs. Far behind him, down into the narrow, wooded valley, the all familiar sounds of battle echoed through the trees. The scent of burning wood masked the stench of fear, blood and whatever else these survivors may have produced during their flight. Goateater raised his hands attempting to gain their attention; The larger warriors acknowledged Goateater quickly, but the others? They stood, staring through the fog at the orange glow. A reminder of what lay behind them.
"I said! Gather around!"
They quickly did as they were told, ushered on by hard stares by the heavier built orcs, whom clenched and brandished axes and swords that could cut a lesser orc in two, simply to get a point across. In times like this, with a large hungry Dragon swooping about, you did as you were told. Or you were used as bait whilst the others fled.
"Yuggira our beloved shaman!" he announced with a hint of sarcasm. "Has made her way to the Cave to contact our ancestors on how to..." He paused, searching for the right word.
"Run away?" Asked one Orc.
"Hide in der Bushes and Trees?" Asked another, who promptly got strange looks from his fellows. "Gundus, why you be alive? Dragon be burnin trees! You wanna end up like Auntie?" scolded a Orc who could easily be confused with a small Ogre.
"Auntie smelled! Dat be why Dragon burnt tree! It be smellin her!" replied Gundus.
"Shut up!" Goateater howled, this sudden outburst brought a much louder roar to blast through the valley; stirring the fog and shaking the trees with immense ferocity.
"Dragon" Goateater squeaked.
Something swooshed overhead, the fog itself fled, parting revealing its terrified occupants. The orcs threw themselves to the floor just in time. A defiant crackle followed by an earshattering boom sent Orc and tree alike flying. Wood and bone was shattered and seared.
"RUN!" Goateater screamed, launching himself of the ground, the clatter of armoured orcs tearing themselves of the floor and running as fast as their fat legs could carry them was a sight to behold. Never before had they had a reason to flee like this. The frantic shuffling of those who had no armour was even more a spectacle: many tripping or stumbling on chunks of burning wood, or even the occasional fresh corpse. As Goateater ran through the forest, the numbing beat of the Dragons wings as it hovered above them melded with the beating of his heart, thrashing at his chest.
Thump.
Thump...
Thump.....
His mind raced, the beat sounded more familiar, old memories awakened.
The Dwarves. The Drums of the Dwarves.
This was not the first time Goateater saw battle with foreign beings...

Migit Ogres. Found only amongst and around Endefel lands, don't let the word 'migit' mislead you, these creatures are still larger than a man, and just as fierce. They are often seen surrounding the Shaman Hags and Warlords of the Endefel, since they are the only ones capable of holding their own!

The Fighting Endefel Orcs!

Yuggira, the last of the ruling Shaman-Hags, since the Dwarves invaded most Shaman Hags have been killed, and only Yuggira was left to lead the Endefel, it was she who brought down the Dwarves, and it is she who will now be further tested by a much greater enemy. Yuggira knows that the Endefel like all Fenatian Orcs save for the Gromaz need much encouraging to face their foes in battle. Her leadership will be tested with Gromaz and Tibut, but more than likely she will possess the skills that the thick skulled chief and stunted strategist do not have!

GoatEater, doing what he wished he didn't have to do! -FIGHT!-

The Endefel Tribe, in Fenatian, Endefel means "Odd ones." And for all those familiar with the variety of Fenatian Orc Tribes, none is more stranger, more puzzling, than the Endefel. The Endefel are dominated by a population of brown skinned orcs. Most brown skinned orcs live on the lush jungle rivers of Abracia, however they have a very different physique to their Endefel cousins, so the existence of a tribe with orcs of such colouring is considered to be one of the greatest oddities of Fenatia. Some suggest that the She-Orc Shaman Hags of the tribe mated with Ogres, but there is however no evidence to prove this.
As for Endefel leadership, it has solely relied on a hierarchy of the Shaman Hags, this again is unique, as often Female Fenatian Orcs rarely play a role in Fenatian society, and prefer to distance themselves from their male counterparts and live in isolated settlements amongst the mountains. For the Endefel however, life is decent enough and organised enough that the females live in the villages alongside the males, and even form families, an even rarer aspect of Fenatian life.
The Endefel's defining moment in history was Dwarven Conquest Wars which took place a decade before the invasion of the Elves. The Endefel found themselves first in line for the Dwarven assault. The Dwarves, ruled by King Danevik had taken the opportunity to expand their own Kingdom whilst the Elven Empire was at war with itself. Daneviks success against Mercians and Qe'roshian Orcs alike bolstered his growing confidence, he soon saw that the Elves were slowly regaining strength and in the coming years would definitely unite and pose a considerable threat. Daneviks Generals soon advised the Dwarven King to make a pact with the Dwarven Princes of the neighbouring Cyrathusion Mountains which bordered Fenatia and the Elven territories.
During Daneviks Alliance, the Dwarven Prince Kradbeard and the two Warlords Fen and Vigor devised a plan to drag the Alliance into a war with Fenatian Orcs; which was believed to be an easy spot to flank the large Elven fortresses dotting the Southern side of the Cyrathusion Mountains.
The result was none other than the Cyrathuse Alliances downfall, and the collapse of the Danevik Empire and his Dynasty. This, being brought about by none other than the pure devious nature of the Endefel.

The Dwarven Invasion went well for the attackers: They stormed the small Endefel villages and Hamlets slaughtering the Orcs with impunity. Danevik knew of the Shaman Hags who led the Endefel, and soon sent his assassins to murder them. Only Yuggira survived the attacks on her sisters, and soon, with the remainder of her Migit ogre Bodyguard and the Endeafen: A core of well equipped ( for orcs that is) she fled the scene and arrived at the small village of Og, that lay between the Dwarves and the Endefel Capital of Yicry. Here Yuggira quickly gathered what Orcs she could, and prepared them for battle.
Yuggira sent out her Migit Ogres and Orcish bodyguard to find her special herbs that would once grinded down would make a perfect drug that would enrage the Orcs on devouring it. After a day of 'hard' work, enough was gathered to supply the defenders with ample enough Potion of the Beserk to keep their spirits up in battle... Or rage.
She then hired the services of some O-nish Mercenaries, a tribe of Nomadic Orcs who primarily hunt and use bows. She sent these orcs to slow down the Dwarven advance whilst she gathered intelligence on the leaders of the invaders.

Her spies, mingled with her own magic, soon uncovered that Danevik and Kradbeard, were at odds with each other, and like Dwarves typically are, their greed for power was bringing the two into a position of plotting. However, what surprised Yuggira more was the two Warlords Fen and Vigor. Fen and Vigor were at odds with each other for their own reasons. Warlord Fen and his small band of engineering Dwarves were loyal to Danevik, but Vigor had his own agenda, and secretly plotted with the even more deceitful wife of Danevik!
Yuggira decided to play the Dwarves against each other, and quickly began her plan to foil the Dwarves conquest as they marched against her Army at Og.
As the Dwarven army marched forth, she sent a group of Endefel Orcs to slow their advance. Most of the Orcs fled or were killed, but one was captured. And by a strange chance of luck, this captured orc could speak Dwarvish. The orc was none other than captured by Vigor. Vigor set about questioning the prisoner before summarily executing the poor orc, but before the orc died, he extracted some troubling information.

According to the captured orc, both Kradbeard and Warlord fen were plotting to kill Danevik, whilst notifying Danevik that Vigor was planning to murder the King during his sleep. Vigors paranoia, not his common sense got the better of him, and he quickly sent news to Daneviks wife of what he had discovered. Vigor quickly made out a plan, he would call upon his Halfling Allies who'd marched behind the forces of Danevik as support to meet him at Og. He decided he would claim that Fen was in league with the Orcs and planned Daneviks death and then murder him.
Meanwhile, he would send his own assassins to kill Kradbeard, who had now already built an outpost and had positioned his own troops facing the village of Og. He would claim the Orcs slew Kradbeard during the battle, but that was only if his primary target was still breathing after the battle: Danevik.
Vigor quickly sent runners to notify Daneviks wife to slay Danevik during the battle, if the battle went against him, which Vigor would make sure of by keeping his forces held back to keep Fen busy, thus giving the Orcs the advantage. In Dwarven tradition, it is usual for a King to be dethroned and murdered if a battle goes against him if he leads, and an aspiring heir usually takes his place. Vigor would then call his troops onto the battlefield, bring about his Halfling allies and win the battle and be pro-claimed king!

The plan would have been perfect, if Yuggira had not already foreseen what Vigor would do if she slipped such false information into his hands! And as battle was met, the Dwarves soon met their match!

Danevik watches the battle, fearing that soon without the aid of his Warlords, his army will crumble to the weakest of all Orc races to roam the Earth! A terrible dishonour indeed!

The stunties assault the right flank! However the walls are too high! And the dwarves are forced to withdraw before attacking again, only to be repulsed, suffering heavy casualties as the enraged orcs scream battlechants and poke at their enemies with suspiciously long weapons!

Yuggira watches as the Dwarves falter. Knowing that Vigor and Fen are locked in battle and keeping their troops from entering the fray on the side of their King!

An advance supply and scouting party of the Halfling army suddenly find themselves surrounded by O-nish Orcs, the Halfling commander quickly orders a retreat before being slain by an Orcish arrow.

Fen (left) realising Vigor's (Right with Green dragon on head) plans as the Dwarven Warlord arrives orders his warriors to engage the traitor in battle, cutting of the rest of his men from reaching the king as the battle goes against him! Fen and Vigor exchange blows, but Fen unready to fight a Dwarf dies with his weapon in hand. His troops dissolve and flee, only to be cut down by O-nish Orcs hiding behind the Dwarven forces.

Checkmate... Daneviks wife, seeing her husbands army fall back, decides to strike, cutting down her King before his bodyguards. Unfortunately, Daneviks Bodyguard, seeing his master fall, takes his ace to the Kings wife, beheading the treacherous witch!

Meanwhile...

Kradbeard, seeing the fate of Fen to Vigor's sword, and his troops to the O-nish archers, retreats to the outpost house his men created and locks himself inside, unfortunately, his assassin also chose to hide here, and thus the Dwarf is stabbed to death.

After the battle, Vigor and his men withdrew, only to be harried by the O-nish and Endefel Warriors, until he was killed on the border between Fenatia and Cyrathusion Mountains... The Halfling army on the other hand withdraw in good order, and never again allied with a bunch of Dwarves!
After the battle Yuggira was proclaimed Shaman Hag Queen of the Endefel, and won the title Yuggira the Deceiver.

Her abilities at deception would come of great use in the coming battle with the Elves!

Many thanks for the comments! The Boss keeps cringing everytime I put his old figs on, he keeps asking me to put on some of his more recent stuff on! I myself am slowly basing the Mantic Elves, and have found his ultra old elves rotting away somewhere in a box.

Damien @ I will be sure to put up more pics of that troll! I keep meaning to do so, I think he is Ral-Partha but not sure. Found a large tin of these things in the loft, and they all seem to be Citadel/Ral Partha!

DeafNala @ Many thanks Nala, I enjoy putting a story together with the figs I have just as much as painting them, or sticking them on LAF for all to see and judge! Though I mostly keep to and expand my own sort of crazy planet!

Phreedh @ No problem Phreedh! I just like adding backgrounds to what I stick up, just a habit of mine, and a hobby!

Pic of that Ogre people were asking about! I think I have seen this model being shown by someone else on the forum (not the same figure of course, just mean the type!)

And here is a sneak peak of upcoming Elves!

Oh and on mentioning getting hands on some old figs, just found a tin full of some very old Citadel/Ral Partha stuff, been talking to the boss and it seems he may want to sell them of, just have to sort through them all first.

Will try do a Lead Adventure jobby with them if anyones interested in what we drag out instead of lumping them on Ebay. Find them a trustworthy home!  ;)

:o The majority of those guys are Fantasy Tribe Orcs from Citadel Miniatures, 1980s/early 1990s. Citadel was once the figure manufacturing side of Games Workshop, who in those days sold all sorts of games, not just their own.

The top guy is a Nick Lund figure from Citadel's Chronicle range. Chronicle was Nick Lund's own company before he went to work with Citadel.

I have the catalogue from those days and some of the figures, especially lots of the Nick Lund ones. :-*

Armies of the Empire!

Not loads of pics this time since not many elves!

They sat, in a broken circle, crossed legs, looking down upon the reports and ancient maps of Fenatia. "This land has not been scouted by our peoples for hundreds of years."
The statement brought the brooding general out from his bubble of thought. Brushing back a strand of blonde hair, his eyes trailed over to the Elven Diplomat who had broken the silence. "Why are you here, Llanaris?"
Llanaris glanced at the General for a split second, trying to gauge the expression of a mostly unemotional soldier, who's stone, hawk like features rarely reflected what troubled him. "I am here on orders of the Empero-" A sharp wave from the General cut him of. "No, Llanaris, like all politicians your are evading my query, why, is a diplomat here, in Fenatia?"
"To, make talks with the Orcs and make the conditions of their surrender."
"Surrender?" A vague hint of annoyance dented the Generals usual stoic behaviour.
"Yes, the Emperor directed me to ensure a diplomatic solution is available, he wishes to maintain the lives of his warriors for war with the Minotaur Tribes, and the Steppe peoples. Before the Du-Dant and Harbafon can retaliate against the summer offensives in the wolds."
Llanaris looked concerned for a moment as the General rose. "Is there something the matter Abrastor?" came another familiar voice from behind the Generals position. Llanaris attempted to see who it was, however his eyes could not pierce the pitch black that shrouded the way to the Generals quarters in the tent.
"Everything is fine." The General murmured. He looked behind him. "Only that the new Emperor wishes to poke the hot blade of fools into my sides once more." He turned back to Llanaris. "However, we will not allow that to be the case, the Emperor will have to try harder."
Llanaris looked confused, his emotions were only more apparent because he was young, and because he was only half Imperial. Imperial Elves were good at hiding their emotions. Ever since Humans came to this world, when they first made contact with the spirits living in the forests, they were transformed into the race he and his brethren were today. The Imperial Elves were none other than the result of humans being exposed to the Braheyol; rare mighty beings that in myth, were once servants of a deity that predated the coming of the Universe. As a result what became the Imperial Elf lost almost every aspect of being once human, and became something utterly angelic. Emotions, were one of these human aspects torn away.
Llanaris's people however were of what Humans would commonly call Wood Elves, ignorant that there are in fact dozens of Wood Elf species. Sprites, and the Fraheyol were responsible for their change. And since the Fraheyol accompanied any world with life, they were the embodiment of a Planets Rage and Wild behaviour. Thus was reflected in elves like Llanaris.
Of course for those concerned, Dark Elves were none other than the effect of cruel man, and the Slaugh or Sraheyol.
Abrastor pointed at Llanaris accusingly. "The Emperor should know better Woodworm, and you should learn to suppress your talent of expressing your ignorance and stupidity in the presence of Imperials, let alone your emotions entirely. Only inferior beings suffer such a taint."
Llanaris looked back at the maps. He could sense something contradictory about Abrastor, his very attitude showed the essence of emotion. But the Imperials liked to think of themselves too much. Perhaps thats why the Emperor had sent him to watch over the wayward General.
After all, he had nearly lost an entire regiment to Harbafons Wolfkin. Pyrrhic victories though easily sustainable for the Empire, were never popular, and could often sow trouble amongst the emotional elven kind. He often wondered where the term Pyrrhic came from. It was said the humans spoke of an ancient king when they first appeared after a star fell from the heavens hundreds of thousands of years ago. A white flash of pain tore through his mind, causing the diplomat to clench his teeth.
"Oh, angry are we Llanaris?" Abrastor sighed. "Not at all, just a slight pain is all."
"I see."
Abrastor rose. "I will show the Emperor there can be no treatise with orcs. And to show him how I will emphasise his idealism of talks with a thuggish people, I will send his pets people before the column of the Second wave."
A runner; a plain clothed elf, emerged from the shadows behind Abrastor. "Tell our Primary forces to withdraw, order the woodworms to head the first wave of troops to sustain the occupation. I won't waste Imperials in fighting the outcasts of an outcast race!"
Abrastor spun around to stare directly at Llanaris. "We will see how much pain your kind sustain when their soldiers are cut down by Fenatian maggots. I will enjoy, measuring your..." He attempted to smile, but the result was something twisted. "Emotions."

A block of Wood Elf infantry, often arming themselves with whatever is available, the wood Elven infantry act more like Human and Wolfkin warriors: Individualistic combat, show of skill, and the equipment blessed to the holder by the wonders of mother nature, and the resulting influence of such a blessing are more important than the discipline and close formations of the Imperials.

An army of Elves without a group of Elven Archers would not be an Elven army at all! At least for the empires elves! The skill of Wood Elven Archers cannot be matched by Imperials save for in Scout Teams. Most Elven Marksmen in the Empire come from Wood Elves.

The unique shield designs are something that marks the wood elves from Imperial. To a wood elf, the Wood Elven shield wall and its variety of shields embodies the variety of nature itself, as well as its imposing force and its destructive element.

Another, very Wood Elven Battlefield tech that Imperials do not use are Chariots. Though rarely used in woods, the few plains of Wood elven lands are often the home to Elven horse riders and chariots. Chariots are mostly used by commanders, though not for status like Humans but rather command mobility. Wood Elven chariots are also heavily armoured with wood hardened by special treatment, making it almost impervious to even ballista bolts at close range. Almost. When used in battle, often magic users are mounted on the back, or elves armed with Crossbow repeaters. They are also useful in scaring Cavalry.
As for Elven Horse riders themselves, they are often used in loose formations to add speed to a unit, for Wood Elven cavalry horses lack size or strength for open battlefield use and are best at skirmishing or killing fleeing enemies.

With every Empire come people, and inevitably, warriors of many cultures, some better of than others. The Imperial Elves have, for the most part, only conquered other Elves. Those beings unfortunate not to be an Elf after being subjugated, is often murdered. Elves, rarely get on with each other, let alone other races, still influenced by the spirits that changed them, they certainly have no feelings of connection to their human originators. The Wood Elves are, in many ways in comparison to their Imperial and Dark brothers, far more appreciative of other creatures, as is the nature of beings that have a deep connection with the world they live in. However, wood Elves are in most cases, few in number, and largely live in tribes consisting of only a few dozen. Others are Nomadic, and can on occasion live in larger groups. The Iebreen Wood Elves, being small in stature often live beneath the trunks of trees. And sometimes at a distance are confused for being hairless anorexic Dwarves. Some Wood Elves are known to travel simply alone, and act in many ways like wild animals socially, but have the intelligence of humans.
Llanaris however and the Elves above, come from the Dis Aefar Wood Elf race, whom are more numerous, and often constructed small towns and villages on the North Western edges of the Imperial Empire near the lands of the Wolfkin. Conquered via a series of Expansion wars between two Imperial Generals vying to show of their strategic skill, they have since provided the auxiliaries for their Imperial cousins and often act as a supplement to Imperial Regiments or more flexible infantry to support sieges. More often than not however, aside from being used mostly as outpost troops, they provide perfect back up for Imperial Scout Teams.

All those elves are Tom Meier sculpts from Ral Partha, I love those elves! I really want that chariot, I've been looking for one for ages. Nice paint job on them as well.

Also I seem to have forgotten to comment on your huge orange Troll, interesting sculpt, I have never seen it before.
