So, here we have Instant Mold:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ub70AU5RfmI
You can buy it from the "coolminiornot" webshop, but I'm not aware of any other place that sells it.
A putty that you can use to creat instant molds for casting. Click the above link. It's crazy.
So, it can only be used for fairly basic molds, but this looks like it has some incredible potential...
... and not just for law-suits from GW.
So, has anyone used it? Does it do what it says on the box (and in the video)?
Very tempted to buy some, myself.

Nice find.. :o

This is very very cool...
Nice little intro vid too.

I hear it is actually Polycaprolactone, which is already marketed under various brand names in the US and the UK - the Wikipedia page (all reservations apply) lists a number (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendly_plastic#Hobbyist_and_Prototyping).
I am quite intrigued by the concept myself, although I haven't been able to track it down myself (and I don't really like those CMON people, for no good reason other than them being painting snobs).

saw it a few days ago sure want to try it
-
I bought some, the melting part worked the molding part did not but it was only my 1st attempt.
-
It's called OYUMARU.
Available in many "art shops" (with the stuff for kids who loves hello-kitty-like thingy (http://storage.canalblog.com/49/26/752302/58183853.jpg)).

Seeing it reminds me of the canning wax I used to play around when I was little.

mm sounds interesting but... i have found something similar (but blue), that you melt (totally, until liquid), and maybe should be more interesting...
also because it costs 40$ for 1 kg ^^

I have that but I can't get the heat balanced correctly, it burns or doesn't melt properly when I try.

hum... if i had i used "bagnomaria"...
i mean a pot of hot water with inside the smaller pot with the silicon inside... is it the right heat? 90-100°?
-
Bain-marie, that's a very sensible solution, clearly I'm a dunce! Don't need it right now but I'll have to give that a go.
-
I found a guy selling it on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Wargames-Instant-Mold-Green-Stuff-Mould-/310297995379?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item483f33a873#ht_1152wt_907
Apparently you can't use it with anything that gives off heat when curing so resin would be out.

I believe this is called a "double-boiler", but I am not certain ;)
-
Yeah. bagnomaria would be the Italian for the more commonly used French term that is, in effect, a double boiler for cooking. Bain-marie is used in labs but I don't know if it's used for kitchen applications. It seems both Spain and Portugal had a similar term though I didn't do enough cooking with friends or family in either to know for certain. Now I'm curious about the origin and well off-topic.
I wonder if hot water would be another way to speed epoxy putty as well?
I may get some if I can find it.

in italy we tend to add holy things all around ! :)
anyway... it is costly indeed (the instant mould)... i dunno if it is as useful as said...

Certainly not for all putties. Uncured Milliput dissolves in water.

Bought the stuff from CMoN. I think it's a fair price for a re-usuable product. Handy for my Warmachine force to pressmold things like faction insignia and such. Haven't tried it yet, but I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with it.
