Started putting together a Victorian house.
This is a first build-up to see how it's going together. It still needs chimneys, finishing on the dormers and a faux interior for the large main window.
The finished building will have working porch lights and possibly an enclosed rear yard with a stable.

still so beautiful bravo ;D :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
I'm welling up with excitement. Brilliant piece of architecture.
-
Just love a Pappa Midnight build..... and with working lights and a faux interior too! 8)
-
Have to agree with the fellas, its looking stonking already can't wait to see the illuminations ;D
-
That's bloody brilliant :o :-* :o :-*
-
Out standing work :-* :-* :-* :-*
What is that you are using for slates?
-
That'll do nicely! very nice work indeed! :-*
Same question as gamer Mac.
-
Thanks guys.
The slates are strips of card with "nicks" cut into them then overlapped to give the impression that they are separate pieces.
The roof looks a little odd at the moment because it's a little wrinkled. This is because card i used isn't what I normally use. It is is more expensive BUT warps like hell when you put PVA glue on it! I'm hoping I can level it up a little when it's painted ( the wet paint should make it easier to tease the roof back into shape.)
The "expensive card" is being set to one side for photo printing and I'll be picking up some cheap "wrinkle free" card tomorrow.
Learnt a valuable lesson: just because it costs more doesn't mean it's better!!!!
Cheers

Fantastic work! 8)

Brilliant - how long does it take to scribe all that foam? However long it is, it's well worth it. Fantastic build, wonderful detail, and great imagination. Can't wait to see it painted!
-
I agree brilliant!!

I thought that the warping in the roof was on purpose. It adds character to the building

That's what I was thinking. It looks good.
-
I completely agree. The warped wavy look adds a bit of character and age to the building. I'd keep it that way.

But as it's victorian era, should it be that aged?
When you sticking up the next shots mate?
-
Gads, my scoring of foam just... doesn't measure up to this at all. But I am completely inspired to take another try at it to see if I can get remotely in the ball park of that kind of talent. Just plain awesome.
-
More superb work PM; even if the bowing of the roof isn't to your tasts, it certainbly gives a sense of 'character' for the building.
-
WOW! i love that!
-
Holy smokes fantastic!
How long did it take to engrave all those bricks? Did you use any tricks to speed up the process? (I have some blue foam waiting to be used.)
Can't wait to see this finished.

Well, back to Earth with a bump this week.....First day back after 6 weeks sick leave.......
Thank you for the comments so far, they are always welcome.
Anyhow, I base-coated the building over the weekend and have finished the roof and chimneys.
I don't think the roof looks too bad after the "warping" nightmare.

Evilcartoonist: It didn't actually take that long ( not as long as my Pub did!!!!). It's not an architectural model so I'm not too fussed about real world scale conversions as long as they lk ok with my minis. I score the bricks with a pencil using rows which are 1/8th inch wide ( i found any narrower and it looked a mess) with the bricks 3/8th inches wide. I work in Imperial scale mainly because I have a huge steel ruler which is marked in inches!!! When it comes to windows/doors are mark their position first and score any lintles etc. Once Ive got the first row done it tends to fall into place pretty quickly.
Hope that helps

WOW!!!
do you use a empty pen or similar to scribble bricks? :)
-
Looking good PM.
When you've finished the buildings do you coat them with anything to protect them? I'd be worried about the foam being damaged.
-
Very imposing and, as usual, masterfully realised. You must have quite a conurbation by now (I know you did a group shot of your miniatures and buildings a while back). How many buildings are you aiming for? Anyway, I look forward to seeing this beauty painted and detailed to your usual exacting standard.
-
That's a great teaser shot - you know we all want to see it fully painted, of course! Actually, seeing it base-coated does make the detail and proportions clearer, for some odd reason, so I'm only joking, this is great - looking better with each step. Speaking of steps - I love those stairs up the back. They look great, and I have a feeling they're going to get a lot of gaming action as well! Great stuff.
-
Thanks for the tips- I'm gonna go look for your pub, now.
Then I may have to build my own.

Well your tramp steamer sailors need an onshore watering hole. Stands to reason... ;)
-
Thanks gents.
I started applying the brick colours tonight using my trusty sponge and base-coated the roof and the porch.
I'll post some more pics shortly.
Evilcartoonist: you are welcome. You can find some build up pics of my pub here

Thunderchicken: I found that the artist acrylics which I use are very durable and don't really need any protection. Saying that, I found that Windsor and Newton matt acrylic varnish is excellent. Being water based there is no chance of it damaging the foam. I used it on my factory and it came out pretty good. I also use it to give a matt finish to some of my minis on top of a "harder" varnish.

After a massive delay due to work getting in the way of my hobby I've finally painted my House.
I started wiring it for lighting but had a few snags and after a temper tantrum which almost resulted in this getting throw against a wall i decided not to light it.......

I did, however, do a faux interior which can be seen through the main window.

Away on a course soon so i probably won't be posting for a while BUT I plan on building some terrace houses next month.

Bloody lovely - AGAIN!!!!!!!!
You know whats coming now don't you
"can we have a group shot please mister midnight?"
-
I thought you meant the "can I be in your will please mister midnight?" question again. :D
This looks fantastic again!
-
Brilliant - the stone against the brickwork is handled really well, and the overall shape and structure is great. I still love those stairs up the back - a really nice detail! Terraced houses next, you say? Your little corner of Victorian London is looking amazing, so I'm sure the terrace is just going to add to it. Lovely stuff.
-
What to say?
Oops, you did it again!!
Outstanding- as usual... :-* :-*

Cor Blimey, Guv'nor! :o

Very spiffing. Good job PM.
-
Excellent work :-* :-*
Although, and I'm afraid to say it, your sash windows either side of the front door are upside down (damnit, where's the embarressed smily when you need one)
cheers

Heh! Heh!... You are bang on. The windows in the kit I use have some which are partially open. I found they looked a little odd with the top opening and spun them up the other way to have bottom opening. Of course I had to turn the others around to match.......
A slight case of what I like the look of over realism..... :D

Jolly good then :D
There used to be quite an art to using sash windows properly, using different opening configurations for different ventilation effects. Quite often it would be the top one that would be opened more often than the bottom one (probably something tondo with the smell coming from the streets).

Beautiful as always, :-*
-
Utterly splendid!
:-*
-
Stunning work again :-* :-* :-*
The paint job is lovely.
-
Alright, so maybe I can paint a bit better than I thought, but there's no way I could ever make anything this good.
That faux interieur is delightful and the uneven colouration of the brickwork is perfect :o
If I owned a top hat I'd doff it to you, sir!
-
If you keep this up you're going to lose your amateur standing lol Very nice.
-
Wow! Great work! :-*
-
looks great. A true testament to the fact that sometimes you just have to take the time and put the work in. And it shows with every brick!
-
Stunning Al, simply stunning.
