Early december 2010, we had to decide on the demo game for the Red Barons convention (5th March 2011...). We had the unhealthy idea of creating a Nam game from scratch (rules, painting figures and 3/4 of the scenery, including building the USS Lisa...). Oh boy, what a job (in less than 3 months), but here are the results:
Game scenario:

(tongue in cheek, based on the current political situation in Belgium...)
The USS Lisa has arrived off the coast and starts to unload her gear

All seems quiet enough...

... apart from a lone VC sampan with a spar torpedo (big deal...)

The VC junk - waiting to take Erio di Lupo aboard - is now trapped...

But already an NVA relief force is on its way (should the trucks reach the VC villages on the other side of the river, the game would end in a VC/NVA victory)

The US forces secure a beachhead
(http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm262/geudens_photos/US01.jpg)
and one of the USS Lisa's Huey's scouts for the location where Erio di Lupo is held prisoner

Some of the locations where the prisoner might be held captive:

As it turned out, the US forces were ambushed and beaten back by the cunning NVA/VC commanders (to be rather more precise: by some unbelievable lucky dice throws from Matthias, our youngest participant), so the USS Lisa had to leave the area whowing very little result... Anyway, a demo game enjoyed by all (and that's the most important thing, not?).

Bought from Ebay, some years ago. Some crazy American (the name was Lewis, if my memory serves me well lol) kindly shipped it across the Atlantic for me...

That looks awesome! I love the carrier. Very cartoonish but still - atmospheric!

Thank you! The LPH (helicopter carrier) was built on the hull of a toy aircraft carrier, true to the principles of the Major General Tremorden Rederring site (http://www.zeitcom.com/majgen/50ship.html - correct vertical scale, shortened horizontal scale) but it still is 80 cm long (less than 1/3rd of what it should be), about as much as an average table can take and therefore to be regarded as a token rather than a "true model". Although the toy hull has an angle deck (which an LPH hasn't), I prefered this over a scratchbuilt one, because it is sturdier, better suited for transport and it probably looks better than a homemade effort would (at least, if done by me... lol).

Hmm, we are both getting older, so it might be your memory or mine... Never mind, as long as you enjoy the stuff!

Looks like it was a lot of fun. It's not a wargamer's convention without at least one "nose-picking" photo. As I stated in the other thread about the carrier, I had the same idea for that toy and am now encouraged enough by your effort to take the plunge. Great work all-around.
