I'm putting on a largish Malifaux tournament here in Washington in a couple months, and wanted to produce a miniature to give away to attendees. The resulting figure will be used in a special scenario at the climax of the tournament. Our local real sculptor wasn't available to do anything, so I reckoned I'd have a stab at it. As a long time Warhammer Chaos player, the one thing I can sculpt is gribbly bits. As such, I figured I'd go with my take on the Shoggoth - a mass of eyes, mouths, and tentacles. While my casting and sculpting could use a great deal of refining, I have to say I'm somewhat happy with how it turned out. The base is 50mm. The fact that this has been inspired by the recent spate of wonderful new sculpts on this board is not coincidence!
Here’s some of the green:

:o Now that is gribbly! Nice paintjob, too.
-
Great paintjob. I very much like your extreme contrasts.
-
Oh, what a thing of beauty :-*
-
excellent sculpting, lovely paint job!
If you have any left over would you consider selling them? i'd buy one, definitely, can't have too many shoggoths.
the more variety the better.

Protoplasmic Fury! I love it :-*
Plus, your paintjob really does it justice (I agree with Mancha on your extreme highlighting...your style really shows off this model well)
-
That is VERY COOL...in a creepy sort of way! I lvove the teeth in its various mouths & the eyes. The sculpt is FANTASTIC & paints up WONDERFULLY!
-
Very nice sculpture and paint up.
-
I'm a big fan of your painting style and the model is great. I'd buy one (or more) if you make them available.
-
Nice sculpt and awesome paintwork!
-
Thanks for the kind words, all! It was really fun to do. Not sure if they'll be any extras, but if so, I'll be sure to post here.
-
Nice! Very nice!! I also support the idea of you making more for sale.
-
Yeah, add me to your "I'll buy one of the extras" list!
-
Cool beastie :) Really like the way you have done the mouths.. get casting those extras ;)
-
Very Nice...
It's fun making your own shoggoths. Though it's hard to go wrong, you've done a very impressive job!
-
Nice! You should definitely look in to selling them.
-
Nice sculpt and crackin paint job. :)
I'd buy one aswell. :)
-
Very nice work in this miniature!! Great Shoggoth!!
-
Cool stuff 8)
The ball bearings/marbles for eyes works a treat :)
It's painted up really well too - jobs a good one! Nice to see other
people diving in and having a go....... and enjoying it.
Tentacles is something I need to refine myself, yours are looking
great - how much time did you spend on the sculpt?
-
Thanks, all!

Those are balls of MagicSculp - great stuff if you want a chea putty that dries nice and hard (though brittle).
The tentacles weren't bad - I suck pieces of wire in a cork, then covered them with greenstuff and smoothed it all out. The suction cups were just (tiny) balls of greenstuff put on the tentacles, flattened, with a hole sculpted in the middle. They go pretty quickly once you get the hang of it (and, sculpting tentacles is a skill EVERYONE needs ;) ).

Wow - they looked too uniform to be sculpted - that's more of an indication of my sculpting skills though :'(
I think I need to try tentacles with something other than the supersculpey as I think that'a where my bulking
problems are coming from..............

When you say "sculpted", you mean "rolled up into balls and left to harden". Not much sculpting there! :D
-
I would prefer to buy one of your extras than attempt to sculpt one. That just wouldn't work.
-
I'll take three , NOW! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
