Hi Guys ,
next year in February we (the Hamburg Wargaming Club) make our 3 tactica show .
If you don´t know it look her
http://hamburger-tactica.hq-cooperation.de/index_e.html
Frank and me have a vendetta about building the best Tabel of the show .
Last Year Frank beat me with his fantastic medieval north germany piret table .
Look her at
Störtebeker - Gottes Freund und aller Welt Feind
http://hamburger-tactica.hq-cooperation.de/pages/fotos2007.html
But these time I try to beat him with a Lost World Table.
The Tabel will have all the good stuff like Jungle ,Temple Ruins, Dinos, Adventures .........and some special things I show you later ; )
But to win I have to stard now ,
My first Figures will (ok I have a lot LW stuff reday) be a party of Lizzardmen and two Salamander figures .
The Lizzardmen will be player characters the Salamanders will be one of the menny Beast there .
I will paint them these week but I need some Isperation so let me see your Lizzardmen and how you would paint the salamander.
Also I need your help to bead Frank so let me know your Ideas of a LW table
ALSO I WILL MEED SOME OF YOU GUYS AT THE TACTICA !!!!!
cheers Grimm
-
Thank you for the dates.
Do you know any good accomodation nearby ?
-
Just send a mail to the Tactica team tactica2008@hq-cooperation.de
I am sure Jörg will know a few .
-
Grimm, to be honest, I don't like the idea with the GW Lizardmen, they look too-Warhammer-like and I'm sure a table with GW minis wouldnt look like an exceptional Lost World table but rather like usual WHFB one. Did you see the painted Reaper-Frogmen from tbroadwater. Why not these?
-
Prof I realy realy like the Skinks ( ok I hate the saurus figures) and I am sure they look good with round bases .
I do my best to pint them and you will see it will work.
And after all I pay 0,50€ for them so what is the prize of the Frogmen remember I am not a rich men !!
Grimm
-
I guess if you won't go for maya ruins it wouldn't be a GW table regardless of the skinks (Angkor would be an alternative if going for ruins). Perhaps you should convert their equipment, give them boomerangs, forked spears, Zwillen (however these are called in english;) ) or something else than the original blow pipe/throwing spears. Look for Komodons for inspiration.
-
Go for it Grimm, Use Aztecs for reference, some nice warpaint shields and weapons.
I would replace the blow pipes with obsidian spears and feathered shields :)
Some nice big creatures are the Bob Olley lizard aliens which come with interchangeable arms.
Or go for Kroot even they are some of my favourites
-
are you sure ,i realy like the skinks :?
-
I think the skinks work to, except the weapons which could easily be swapped.
-
I like skink figures, you can use them as other things apart from skinks, but you may need to do some simple conversions. We use a lot of them for Wargods of Aegyptus as allies/minions of the Sebeki crocodiles. Egyptian is fairly simple - a stripy headress made from miliput (or tissue paper soaked in glue) and Egyptian style shields all round soon changes the look of things.
I suppose you could go "African" and swap the blowpipes for Zulu style shields and knobkerries, have Greater Zimbabwe style ruins.
Mexican would be very colourful, Aztec feathered shields and possibly backbanners would look exotic, you could replace the weapons with obsidian bladed swords or even bolas ?
Angkor Wat ruins would look cool too, but I'm not sure how the figures would look. Maybe you could go further East and look at Vietnam perhaps ? Have two rival factions of lizards - one black skinned, the others more colourful ?
-
here I go with the first WIP of the figures .
I will make the lizardmen in South Armerica style so I will addit other schilds and feather´s .
Hope I make a unit of 5 today
I also think small round bases and a ``not so candy`` like look will vanish the GW style .
here a GW one
http://de.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.de?do=Individual&code=99060208065
so what you are thinking ?
-
I love them Grimm  right off to e-bay to buy shed loads and send them onto you to paint :) as opposition for my Aztecs
-
Could work as Deep Ones. Nice paint job, Grimm.
-
Here is that Bob Olley Big one which might be nice as a leader. They can come separate bodies (2 part) with close combat weapons rather than guns
(http://olleysarmies.co.uk/scifi/alien3.jpg)
-
One thing you could do to make them just a bit more South American is to pierce their noses. I'd run a stiff wire through the nose and paint it tan, to make them look like these guys:
South American native architecture was big on stone masonry without mortar. Irregular rocks would be smoothed just enough to fit together seamlessly, but without the rows we're used to seeing in Western architcture.
It's easy enough to simulate on the table. You simply inscribe the joint detail with a ballpoint pen onto foamcore or insulation foam.
I think small details like this will do a great deal to give it that Lost Civilization feel.
-
(http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k116/PeteMurray/God%20Wants%20It/pointy.jpg)
Quite an agressive growth of nose hair your girl friend has, there, Pete Murray, old friend...
-
I am beginning to regret my earlier clemency in the Swashbuckling thread.
-
Isnt he one of the Cat people I saw Bruce Parry meeting with these.
Ooh Grimm yo could go all Tupi with black and red warpaint too perhaps for elite skinks or something (see my Avatar for ideas)
-
I am beginning to regret my earlier clemency in the Swashbuckling thread.
The Clogged Lutheran strikes again!
-
Yes guys I think about War paint but the problem is that the warpaint easy look like normal Skink skin because of theirs scaly skin.
I don´t think that is cool but I also have some old Slann (frogmen) and I am sure they get warpaint
I love them Grimm Love right off to e-bay to buy shed loads and send them onto you to paint Smile as opposition for my Aztecs
you are wellcome
Found these picture in the wep look at the pool !!!!!

-
Yeeha, Pygmie zombies!
As said on the Sweetwater forum, I loved those Pygmies from the Mummy picture. Consequently I would opt for the 'whiter shade of pale'. :D
-
I agree - go with the original white colour.
-
Grimm,
Are the Hunter Dragons still available from RP Europe? I didn't see them on their site.
-Todd

Excellent Grimm and the guide, is he the Bush Tucker man? I used to love watching him with his tales of hunting and survival
Despite his ugly hat he is/was so much better than that crocodile guy also from Oz. You know who I am talking about, the anoying one, "Beeuutiful!", the one that got et by a manta ray.
I digress, I adore those traps, Grimm. I am a sucker for markers like that.
-
I like the Bush Tucker Man. But I also liked Steve Irwin.
-
I like the Bush Tucker Man. But I also liked Steve Irwin.
Well, Plynkes, old thing, you can't be perfect in all aspects of your character. ;-)
-
Inspirational stuff Grimm, will there be room on your table for a volcano?
Every Lost World should have a volcano :)
-
Inspirational stuff Grimm, will there be room on your table for a volcano?
YES !!! it is the plan from the stard on.
I will use a water mister for that and I will use red light to shine on the mist.
Grimm, I just love those traps, Inspired stuff, especially the pit trap[/code]
they are the roof of the gW sentinel
Bush Tucker
who is that ? I only know Steve Irwin ,sorry

Thank you all for your nice comment
tomorrow will be duckdino day
-
I'm really enjoying your painting on these figures Grimm. Seems much nicer than even just a few months ago. Very inspirational project as well.
-
Grimm, the painting on those cavemen is brilliant.
And they even have the McBrice handprints!
(I can see these are going to be de rigeur on all Copplestone cavemen from here on it!)
Beautifully done.
-
Thanks Guys .
You are right Captain Blood the handprints Idea are stolen from McBrice
They are a must have ,you know.
-
Grand work Grimm - I've just scrolled through the thread and can't wait to see the project ready 8) 8) 8)
A cheap source of dinos (and a splendid croc, too), incidentally, is an old Tamiya boxed set of Mesozoic creatures, if you can lay your hands on it. Here's a mislabelled example (should be, as some pointed out, an Oviraptor):
http://pauljamesog.blogspot.com/2007/10/mssr-v-goes-hunting.html
Nowhere near as good as your paint jobs, though. :lipps:
-
wow I like the figure ,must get these Set !!
I also have a lot of stuff ready look here
http://grimm.backofbeyond.de/gallery_lost_world.html
-
Grimm, the stuff you have on that website is incredible 8) 8) 8)
Here's a pic (not mine) of the set:
http://www.linkandpinhobbies.com/graphics/Td_meso.jpg
It's in 1:35 scale, and has been seen priced at anything between 15 and 50US$!
SOmeone is selling more of the same range here - a bit pricey, and shipping from NZ would be expensive!
http://airsailmodels.co.nz/shopping/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=463&cat=Tamiya+Products+Dinosaw+Scale+Kitsets
-
ok the Duckdinos are ready not my best work but good enough for gaming

-
Quak-quak-quak!
I like them. Nice and unconspicous, so they just *might* escape that hungry T-Rex´ attention by blending in with the jungle. Anatosaurus stealthus ninjensis.
-
Heh - stealth dinos
Very nice though - I like the paint job.
8) 8)
-

ok I had the time to make the Backwall of the board here are the picktures of the mountains
Some of them are very Fantasy style but that is ok because I also will use them in Adventure Games and it is nice if you can place the figures on them .
Also you can laying them on ther back and use them as rocky subsurface.

Don't be modest Grimm, you make the rest of us feel bad when you are. :D
The board is excellent and sure to impress at Tactica.

Beautiful, Grim! You must have had so much fun making it.
-
The board is absolutely great and not just ok mate !

This board is gorgeous, because it looks realistic AND playable, and that the most difficult balance to reach, I think.
Be proud, Grim !

Reminds me of an old boardgame I had as a kid Waddington's Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs...

Man, come out from under your rock, this is one hell of a board! Really looking forward to see this at Tactica!
-
Grimalicious! And stop that fishing for compliments RIGHT NOW, buster. It doesn´t suit a psychobilly terraformeur extraordinair like you at all.
-
Thank you all
The bad thing is that never say someone that he diden´t like my work but that is important for me because I will get better in building terrain .
The good thing is that you all trustable and that means that the board is good enugh for the tactica
-
I like it a lot, but gamewise it probably could use some more trees in the center, depending on how fast and powerful the dinosaurs are.
-
that is a good idea ,I will think about it .
thanks Knox
-
WOW! :o
Outstanding work Grimm.
-
And...on the sixth day Grimm created the lost world and said unto his people...go forth and hunt and the people rejoiced while loading their Weapons :Genesis 2:3 The Book of Grimm :D
-
That's an awsome board Grimm! I like the varried terrain and little points of interest. The birds in the trees and other extra details really add a lot.
-
great work the board is excelent :D
-
...depending on how fast and powerful the dinosaurs are.
Dinosaurs are VERY powerful. I'm sending Grimm the rules this week for them. Let's just say that those hunters better work together if they hope to bring the dinos down.
-
Superb work Grimm. I will have to get some close up pictures of that during the Tactica weekend.
-
