Had an urge to paint green recently so my friend gave me his newly converted Savage Orc Warboss to have a play with.
When I got it there was a fair amount of green stuffing to get done and also a fairly open brief on how to paint it ..."just do what you do"... yeah cheers for aiding with the creative process there mate :P
Only real problem was as he had used so many non savage orc bits, how not to make him look like a regular orc. Think I managed a suitable comprimise with the bone helm, wooden vambrace and leather rim to the shield leaving only the pauldron metal, think that gave him a suitably tribal look.
Anyhow pictures

Lets hope my mate likes it! I do, so if he hates it I will probably buy it off him for a £10 and pop it on ebay :D

it is the first savage ork i like!
the other orks i've seen looked like plastic toys with some emmenthaler blades. :)
great job as always!

LOL cheese swords!! I know a guy who is actually scared of cheese, one of the more unique phobias but he is also boarderline paranoid schizophrenic in my opinion so the cheese probably tells him to spill the blood of the innocent....
Glad you like it though mate. What in particular do you like about it? my favorite part is the skin, as realistic as I could get skin to look when its bloody green anyway :D

It's VERY nice... but (and slap me for saying this, as it IS really fucking good) it's not comparable to your other stuff. I think. It might be because I don't like the skull cap.

Lovely!
Really like the conversion and the paintjob! Not the same choice I'd make for skin-tone, but still awesome none-the-less! :)

Cheers mate, I had no real option there. I was given the model already built but requiring a little greenstuffing. I came up with the idea for the bone face mask, the wooden vambrace and the stone spear (which I suppose was sculpted as to be used as metal) as really didn't like the idea of savage orc wearing metal...maybe I should have painted it wood like I did vambrace. Perhaps I should have done all of the armour wood. Anyway its not my model and I ain't getting paid for doing it so I won't loose any sleep over it (well maybe a litte). If he is happy with it that all the matters, if he ain't well there's nothing I can do about it.
It did acutally look really cool with all the non metal bits metal as I originally painted them metal, it just didn't look like a savage orc....catch 22
makes me a sad panda

Skin was actually a lot lighter vibrant green right up until I varnished it (which had to be done as it is intended for gaming) then it dulled it down sufficently for me to die a little inside :( But I still quite like the skin even though it is not as good as it was pre-varnish
Model got pretty slated on Coolminiornot voted to a 4.5, which is below tabletop standard apparantely

Amazingly good work.. I wish I had such a grasp on painting metal :o

Hi Damien! Very nice pj on the orc, I really like the tats on him especially the one on his back. The blue is just gorgeous but what I really like is the wood grain on the forearm. I also dig the skullcap I think it looks pretty cool and is different.

I think it's lovely all around. I wouldn't change a thing.

I'm with Damien. Great paint job, but I especially like the wood grain on the forearm and shield. Nice 'micro' painting.

Nice smooth colours and perfect matt effect! This is a kind of effect I always tried to achieve (and never managed to).

Great paint job, gotta say the woodgrain is without doubt my favourite part......BRILLIANT!

Thanks mate, I agree the blue is rather eye catching, maybe a little too much, but the bone hat draws the eye to the face so its acceptable, plus its lizardman skin it should be vibrant in my opinion. Think you are the first person on 4 or so forums to comment the freehand woodgrain I did on the vambrace and spear shaft, was starting to think I had done something wrong. I love doing woodgrain....not sure why, possibly I am a little mental...

I have to say at lunch yesterday I was looking at replies in other forums which were fairly negative plus the massively crap rating on CMoN really started to make me a little worried that the guy will hate the model, even though he is getting it for nothing. But i have to say you guys and a real life mate have made me feel a lot better about the model and confident James will like it
