Title: USS Farncombe ~ work in progress
Post by: Yankeepedlar01 on 16 March 2011, 02:04:29 PM
I've been wanting to add a small ship to the dockside set out in my Pulp games. I happened on an 'ornamental' ship model at a shop near Matt's house last month. It was an open mesh construction with a large boiled/funnel arrangement which I removed, together with the ornamental awnings and seats. I covered the open mesh with green stuff and the open deck areas with plasticard.

The deckhouse, bridge and deck gun are from Minimi ~ thanks Lewis ~ off the new armed trawler. I've ordered some additional armament and sailors from Bob Murch's excellent Pulp Miniatures, so in their abscence I've put a couple of police figures by the same hand and some from Sloppy Jalopy.

Don't be too harsh, I have eleven thumbs when it comes to modelling. Don't ask about scale either, its a token used in a 28mm Pulp setting, not a scale model. It will do for me for now.

OK...

Huzzah! for 11-thumbs. Actually you have captured the 'pulpiness' with a good eye for essentials. I like 'tokens' or as I call them 'props'...scale modeling is another creature all together. This appears to be a functional bit for gaming--and it is very convincing in its present form.

What further plans do you have for this stalwart  vessel?

Regards
Sanders

The Farncombe looks great and I can't wait to see it painted up and in action.
Thanks for posting the pics.

I agree, you have really caught both the Pulp feel and the look of a tired, well used government vessel.

Saw this at GHQ on Wednesday it really looks the part.

It will look rather spiffing in the livery Dave has planned for it.

Great conversion on that ship. Wish I had the skill/patience to do similar

By the way - recently bought the Minimi trawler which is nice model.
