Title: US Airborne for Disposable Heroes
Post by: Axebreaker on March 19, 2011, 02:25:51 AM
This is my first squad for my US Airborne Disposable Heroes project. They are Artizan miniatures and very fun to paint as is the case with all Artizan miniatures.
The goal was to get a platoon painted up and playing in a short time and so I used army painter. However, please remember I added a couple of highlights to these and so they are in effect fully painted miniatures.I skipped adding any identifying patches as that would add quite a bit of time to the painting process.
I went with the early paratroop uniform that was used right up to D-Day as I like the light shade and varying tones to include the patches at the joints. This was because the material was quite thin and so the para's added extra padding to the parts that wear and tear the quickest.
I plan on building some terrain at some point as well for this.
Thank you as always for viewing. :)

Excellent work!

When you say you used army painter do you mean you used quickshade? If so these are some of the best results Ive ever seen.

As above, those bases are fantastic.

Yeah I agree with all of the above these look amazing and make me wish that I had gone the Artizan route for my WWII figures...I may transition toward them they seem full of character.

I'm curious...did you highlight right after the dip or did you do the anti-shine and then highlight?  I've heard it s=done both ways and am curious about yours as they look fantastic.

Cheers,

Blue

Yes, that's correct it's AP. However, please bear in mind I added extensive highlights and so the miniatures are in effect fully painted ones. ;) The nice thing is it still paints a bit faster then normal. :)

what did you use for flowers?

The base grass is a generic mixture, but the bushes, tall grass and flowers are all a mixture of Green Line, Mini Natur and Heki.

I applied the highlights after the dip, but before the anti-shine.

Lovely stuff - painting, basing, the lot. When you say that you wanted to get a platoon painted in "a short time", what amount of time are we talking about, because this is quality painting (and finishing - the bases alone must have taken a fair bit of time!).

Thank you and I'd estimate about a 40% reduction in painting time which I think is quite significant. I haven't timed myself as I take very frequent breaks, but I'd roughly estimate 1hr 30min pro figure or so of actual work time. The base does add a fair chunk of time and so less complicated bases of course would go faster. It could be longer.  ;)

Top painting.

I applied the highlights after the dip, but before the anti-shine.

Ahhhhhhh, no doubt many of us will try this and if it works pass it off as our idea.  ::)

lol Perhaps, but I know of at least one who has done this before me that being David Imrie(Saxon Dog). If my suggestions helps someone then super and happy I could do it.  :D Any ways now a days I can't be bothered with little things like that as my primary concern is just getting nicely painted mini's on the table as fast as I can. Getting older with time running down and still so much I want to do! ACW 28's, SCW 28's, Naps 28's, F & IW 28's and, and, and  ;D

An hour and a half per figure? That's amazing, given the quality - I'll be looking into the Dip, for sure.
The basing is still superb, just so you know!
