I finally managed to complete a project started in 2008 - started out as an artillery tractor from WW2, then got sidetracked, put it aside, dug it up again, noticed oddities in scale and detail, put it away again and finally finished it after showing it at Tactica, and getting quite a few questions about it.
The model is 1:48 rather than 1:56, so it probably looks a bit out of scale next to 28 mm miniatures. It is cast in 7 pieces, wheels, body, undercarriage and bumper, and will be released as soon as I've finished painting it.
I'll use it for my post-apoc gang to drive around in (I'm not historically minded enough to be irritated by the fact that it's WW2 ;) ), but I think it could be equally at home in any BoB scenario (or probably even WW2...)

C&C welcome. Oh, and if anyone can come up with a more interesting name than "truck", that would be most welcome 8)

:o
I'll be havin one :)
-
Beautiful work, put me down for one too
-
Very nice, very british WW2 but also very timeless.
Price?
-
It's big, but not too big. Looks just the right sort of size for dealing with all that tough post-apoc terrain. It would be nice to see it with some home-made armour and gun-mounts etc welded onto it. I'm sure someone will do that very soon :D
-
How about "Bulldog" its got that squat, powerful, menacing look about it and is bloomin' brilliant!
-
Thanks, guys!
Price is not yet settled, but I'll post a note as soon as it it will become available.

Yup. I'll intend to take part in this Mad Max Car Competition (http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/2011/01/mvs-mad-max-car-competition-2011.html) with it ;D

I've been waiting for this since I first saw your WIP photos. I'll be adding one to my Pardulon gang as soon as I can (well, after SALUTE actually).
Good work Jens, it looks great.
-
lol
Jens, if there's any justice in this world, your mean machine will win!

Well two things to say.
First, A very well and detailed model indeed. Very crisp and clean. Congrats to you on this accomplishment.
Second, easy way around the above issue being a WW2 vehicle. Just start with the end of the world happened in the 50's. There, problem solved. :-)

This is a name I can get behind. Terribly appropriate! :D

1. true. a very fine model indeed
2. isn't that assault gun a tad too newfashioned for the fifties ?
:D
-
I'd love to see some pics of your molds, if you're willing?

I was only looking at the vehicle. I didnt even notice the minis standing next to it.
Shush, dont tell no one :-)

Bulldog sounds good, but whenever I hear it, I think of the famous tractor of the same name:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanz_Bulldog
Not exactly what I had in mind, but I'll probably settle for it anyway :)
Mancha, I'll take pictures tonight, but don't expect anything too spectacular. Simple dropcast molds for body and undercarriage, and two-part molds for wheels and bumper. Won't work without a vacuum, though.
-
Cool, but in two Version: Running and broken...
-
The master looked great and this turned out pretty good! Seems to be ok scalewise, too!
-
It looks great. I would call it the "Razorback" if EE hadn't already used it. It looks like the feral pigs we have down south.
-
Here is the promised picture of the molds (as already said, nothing too spectacular).
Body and undercarriage in pink silicon, tires and bumper in green:

I like Razorback. I also like Keiler (boar), but apparently, that's a German mine clearing vehicle. But then, which animal name isn't already taken?
-
Tapir?

Sorry I don't know the german for these weird creatures :(

That's pretty cool. I've never really understood how one-part molds work for something with all those jutty angles. Is the mold the consistency of rubber, and you just sort of peel the mold off the item, like pulling a hand out of rubber gloves?
-
A name better than "Truck."
That vehicle looks vaguely familiar to the 'tractor' that came with the old Airfix 25 Pdr plastic model in 20mm. What was it called??? Was it a 'Bedford Tractor' ?
Regards,
MW
-
It would be a Quad tractor (or a 15 hundred CMP--Canadian Military Pattern). Airfix built a little 1/72 scale with a limber and 25pdr, Tamiya built a better one inthe 1970s in 1/35 scale. Thousands of these beauties were produced in 1940s, for just that purpose as well as mobile dentist offices, communications, cargo, and anything else they could throw on the back). Both GMC and Ford had their own slight variations and I believe this one is close to a Ford type. Just my 2 cents worth.
-
Ps. if it is not already linked to the WW2 forum, I would do that immediately. I'm sure you'd get more of us drooling over it!

Loos even better with some paint on!
As for the name - I wouldn't worry if it's been used already. Look at the current "Typhoon" jet fighter. The same name was used for a ground-attack plane in WWII and no-one seems to mind. Re-cycling is cool :)

Exactly like that... and if you made it right no little rubber pieces stick in all those angles on the cast model ;)

That's fantastic, I can imagine it full of UNIT Troops chasing round after the Dr :D :D :D :D
-
i really like it!
do you have any WIP photos to share? :)
-
Oooh. The painted version is beautiful. the green is a great color choice to show off the angles. I really like this vehicle.
-
Thanks, people!
Jack, no WIP pictures, sorry. But a few of the halfway-painted model:

The cloth cover needs to be finished, and up to now, I have no idea at all what to do with the windows.
Neither price nor name have been settled yet, but I'm quite optimistic that it will be released next Monday 8)
-
The Beast.
Like it Jens :)
-
wow @ the halfway pics!
how did you do the wheels?
-

How about "Mongo" (from Blazing Saddles) and you could charge 10.00 Euros :-I
lol lol
I know, it's worth much more than that! It's looking great with some paint on ;)
-
Name suggestions: "Bruin", "Warthog", "Mastadon"
-
Very nice model

Warthog's already taken:

Warthog's already taken:
Certainly is, Commander - by the British army, never mind a li'l ol' video game... ;)

:)
-
I think you'll find that a service date of 2010 is much much later than Bungie's first offering of the warthog in Halo: Combat Evolved (November 15, 2001).
:D
-
Bloody Hell. The MOD are naming their new armoured vehicles after video game inventions! How's that for life imitating art? ;)
-
... and Warthog is also the Nickname of the A-10 Thunderbolt. But even before that, it was the name of a ... warthog, courtesy of Mother Nature :D
Thanks for all the suggestions, people! Still haven't made up my mind though. I'll probably go with "truck" o_o
Jack, the tires were painted black, then washed with various earth tones to simulate dirt in the tracks, then drybrushed black again. I need to rework these, they are much too light.

thanks!
but my question is "how did you sculpt them?" :)
-
I didn't sculpt them at all :) They were modelled in 3D CAD by a friend, then rapid-prototyped.
-
Lol, i see!!! :)
did you use shapeways? how much did it cost? :)
-
My vote is for "The Wombat".
-
I think that TOAD would be a good name. Or Hyena?
-
Here are the final pictures:

Thanks for all the name suggestions! But now that I'm completely confused by all the animal names ("Gazelle" has been added by a friend), I think I'll settle for "Quad Gun Tractor", undecisive and unimaginative guy that I am ::)
Release will be tomorrow morning, retail price will be 21.50 EUR.
Jack, I had the wheels made before I knew Shapeways existed. I won't tell how much I spent, but rest assured it was waaaaay too expensive for what I got in the end.
Now on to the post-apoc conversion...
-
Now available (http://pardulon-models.com/product_info.php/info/p136_All-Terrain-Tractor-Kroete-.html?refID=1) After much tearing of hair and not much sleeping, I have settled for Kröte (http://pardulon-models.com/product_info.php/info/p136_All-Terrain-Tractor-Kroete-.html?refID=1), mainly because it has an ö in it, but also because I found no other vehicle of that name. I'm sure one of you guys will prove me wrong ;D
-
That is a truck of joy :-*

It's surprising no-one has named their creation "toad" before :?
Or maybe not lol
Great name though, even though I can't do the umlaut thing with my keyboard >:(

Toad: Poop, Poop! Oh, poetry of motion! Ohh, the bliss! Ohhh... poop, poop!
