Title: Dial P For Pulp Podcast
Post by: ironmammoth on October 05, 2007, 11:03:11 AM
Hi guys,

Some of you will probably have already heard my podcast - Dial P For Pulp (www.dialpforpulp.com), but for those that haven't I offer news reviews, articles and fiction, all from the pulp genre.

I am putting together a feature on pulp gaming, which will probably be split over 3 shows! The 3 parts will be:-

1/Tabletop games (.45 Adventure, Astounding Tales etc.)

2/RPGs  (Spirit of the Century, Call of Cthulhu etc.)

3/Figures (Pulp Figures, Artizan, Hydra Miniatures etc.)

I am trying to put together a list for each of these and thought this forum would be a good place to get the information. So here is what I have so far:-

Tabletop:-
.45 Adventure (Fantastic Worlds etc. all the Rattrap stuff)
Astounding Tales 2
Rugged Adventures
The Gaslight expansion (anyone got more details?)
Pulp Friction

RPGs
Call of Cthulhu (Chaosium)
Spirit of the Century (Evil Hat)
Conan (Mongoose)
Dime Heroes (Deep7)
Broadsword (Deep7)
Two Fisted (Precis Intermedia)
Mean Streets (Deep 7)
Solomon Kane (Pinnacle)

Figures
Pulp Figure
Artizan
Hydra Miniatures
Dick Garrison
Rattraps stuff

So does anyone have any more suggestions for inclusion in this list?

Thanks
David

Killer B games for Flash inspired figures

Westwind for Gothic Horror, Secrets of the Third Reich

Brigade games for Pulp WW2, Lostworld adventures and their Gangsters range (these aren`t the exact names of the ranges)

Worth a look is the Frothers guide to minitures for Pulp, lots of inspiration for your Podcast there.  Off to have a listen to it now  :)

David,

the Gaslight expansion is " To Be Continued By Gaslight".

It is in a similar vein to Gaslight, so is not tied to any specific background, and is updated to the early 20thC. Weapons, devices etc available are limited only by your own imagination. Designed to be played as a mini-campaign of a dozen or so episodes, much like the pulp serials. The whole rules have a very cinematic flavour to them, not least because of the terminology used by the authors.

It's a great deal of fun & each episode can last an hour or so, or much longer if you prefer. The main heroes & villains can legitimately be kept alive until the final episode, which sounds contrived, but it actually helps the games run just like the old serials. well worth getting hold of!

Cheers,
Ian

Oh yes, the daddy of them all. I stupidly sold my copy with the scenario books a couple of years ago, still regretting it to this day

Our own Chaos in Carpathia and the forthcoming Chaos in Cairo are both  pulp-related games.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I will have to look into them.

I doubt I will get a chance to to more than give them a mention as the next few weeks are going to be extremely busy, however I will put links in to all those mentioned.

Thanks again!

Replying rather than a new thread to provide some background framing of the topic.

Looking for "Pulp Friction" wargame rules John Milner.  Only mentioned in this thread.  Was saved in one of the Free Wargame Downloads page but the link provided is the long defunct Yahoo Groups address.

Obviously an abandoned rabbit hole, but curious whether there is anything left of it anywhere that can be added to current pulp games.

My thanks to anyone who might either have a vague recollection they'd like to share, or haven't a clue but like me are frequently enticed to spend time on fruitless searches down long abandoned rabbit holes.

Thanks!

For miniatures.. how could one not include Pulp Alley and Crooked Dice?

Ah. Just realized this is a really old thread replied to recently.
