Johan Kurtz August 19, 1678
...It had been a long journey, but we finally reached the plateau above the bay. The path crossed the side of a cliff overlooking shimmering water below and we could still see our craft in the clear water, surrounded by those enormous fish that had terrified the crew so much. Cowards, all of them... I would have replaced them with more of the clal-chk weeks ago... Maybe I'm becoming sentimental in my old age.
The plateau was clear on top, and we were greeted with an astounding sight, a massive stone temple, similar to the ancient temples from my homeland, but with an unsettling design. The floor was made up of a mosaic of large tiles, some inscribed with foul designs of some sorts of sea creatures, eerily reminiscent of the beings we have called the Dark Mariners... In the center of the temple was an evil-looking statue, unwholesome in appearance with a tentacle-covered face and bestial body.
Digging through my notes, I found the passage recited by the troglodyte elder shaman. This must be the temple it had warned me about with such animated vigor... The foolish superstitious creature had no concept of the power of the devices that were to be found beneath the floor here. It would just be a matter of finding the entrance to the chambers below...
The men were hesitant to walk on the floor, making futile gestures to ward off the spirits they were taught to fear as children. I had little time to admonish them for though, as I too felt a strange thickness in the air and great unease when nearing the statue. A strange mist also began to swirl around, most likely some patch of drifting fog... although there were no winds at the moment, and the air was getting warmer...
A few pebbles fell from the top of the pillars above, and a dark shadow fell upon us........
This is the new Temple of the Ancients 30mm resin terrain kit for ShadowSea. The kit is done and going into production in the US, although it may be available soon for soon pre-production copies from the caster in the EU. That will be worked out, but final production copies will be ready sometime in late April or early May. Price is TBD, but I will make sure that there are goodies that come with the kit to make it worth the price.
See the blog for some more info on the game - hopefully I can get the pre-production orders going soon there and on the ShadowSea website.

The photos below show the size of the kit, with the middle one showing a miniature with a 25mm square base.

I want one NOW!!! :o :o
-
Absolutely beautiful! I will try to scrape together cash for one when it is available. :-* :-*
-
My God that is just beautiful!! I am at a loss for words, you have to put these images on the Cthulhu section as well, they'll go nuts over there.
Wow

Thanks guys! I have to hand it to the sculptors, they are experts. This is really a museum quality piece, with the high level of detail in everything they put in it. It is technically done, as the piece shown is a resin master copy, but I want to see if I can get some pre-production copies ready before the real production starts in the US. The sculptors are in the EU, so I'll have to work out shipping and price.
I did put a copy of the thread in the Cthulhu section also, although I don't know if that is against the rules in some way. edit: it was so I removed the other copy

Just contact (PM) Uncle Mike, the moderator of the Cthulhu section,I am sure he won`t mind bending the rules a bit. You deserve as much exposure as you can get for this piece. This piece is truley on another level.

I did post am lost for words, but they removed it, yes I agree it need to be in the Cthulhu Section, but am thinking the Strange Aeon Child board.

What a great temple. Love the detail on the floor as well.

I just love Shadowsea stuff... But it's all so expensive! Always such high quality in sculpt and design and sheer inventiveness, but at the price where I always hesitate for just long enough to notice just how expensive. Thus why I have yet to order any minis, even.
Still, this looks incredible. I was blown away when I saw the pics on Facebook. It looks amazing. Then my next thought was "I wonder just how much the price for this will be..."
Amazing as always! Maybe someday...

Sorry to swim against the flow, but I don't like it, it's not that it isn't well sculpted, it just doesn't make me think of Cthulhu cyclopean massive stones and mind chilling impossible angles, that's what I would like.
Granted this is a human temple built in honour etc... but not what I would want, also not too sure about the interpretation of old seabed sleepy head there.
Again as a said, lovely execution, just not for me.

Point well taken, but the design is meant to be more Atlantean than pure mythos. Not to bore you with game fluff or anything, but the Ancients that made the temple were human-ish, and debased themselves with deep sea creatures. The temple is a bit of their timeline, like a snapshot in their history before one group of them went full debasement and turned in the Dark Mariner faction from the game. The rest of the Ancients went somewhere else.. to be located in future supplements for the game.
The statue turned out a bit more cthulhu than I originally intended but I think it works. There is potential for making an optional statue or two for different game styles. I could definitely see the temple used in something from Jason and the argonauts, with harpies or skeletons from Otherworld minis. We'll see how it goes. I will try and price it so it is affordable.
Here are a couple more shots showing some optional floor panels.

I just keep looking at the pictures over and over again :-*, this was already asked before but are you going to make the statue available seperately?
Damien

The plan is for certain parts to be available separately. The statue for sure, the pillars and the large flat floor tiles. Some of the other parts, like the broken columns or the dais could also be separate. I'd like to make optional parts so it could be used with other periods or games as well.

Now THAT is how a Cthulhoid temple should be made, without all the inhuman reality-breaking angles and other insanity-inducing things! Those might be bad for sales anyway. :D
Oh and as a side note, I managed to get to the Shadowsea site at long last, using the html version. The Flash version still refuses to co-operate but that's just my computer throwing a tantrum again.

I hear tax inspectors don't like that either, its hard to tax something that cant be measured by the sane mind.
I have to say that everything rolling out of antimatter games is far higher production value then one would expect from a new ish company. This sets the record tough, damn.

Wait, you are saying that tax workers are sane to start with?

Yea, moments after that post I started noticing similarities between impossible angles and the way most taxes work, so I'm pretty sure tax workers are required to have that "eldritch mindset" to begin with.

Oh goody, so it's not just me then. This does however lead into disturbing suspicions about the origin and purpose of taxes...

Wow. Beautiful.
