Title: A Good Dusting Pt 2
Post by: speedbrush on 02 April 2011, 11:39:11 AM
Well, I played my first game of "A Good Dusting" last night. Here are some pics and brief battle report.

Turn 1 - 2
Three units of British troops march in column up table towards the oasis, with the Gardner gun.
Forth unit and gunboat engage Mahdist rifles on hill. All other Mahdists are out of sight in Wadi marked by line of stones on table. Mahdist rifles get some good rolls and cause a few casualties on the Brits, while the Brits rifle and cannon fire is pretty ineffective. Hill is rocky so provides hard cover.

Turn 4
Brits have formed a sqare in response to mahdist cavalry approaching from North of table. Other mahdist troops have launched their attack from the wadi and, probably unwisely, are screaming across the open ground towards two imperial lines.

Turn 8
Two Mahdist units charged the British redcoats, taking lots of casualties from fire. After 1 round of melee one unit flees while the other hangs on in there.

Turn 9 - 10 No pics
Cavalry charged square and was wiped out due to Gardner, rifle fire, and very bad round of melee.

Turn 11
Mahdist charge square following the cavalry and are wiped out too. Damn those dice..
2 units of Mahdists get ready to charge the redcoats.

Turn 12
Mahdists charged redcoats. Square reforms to face threat of last 2 mahdist units

Turn 13 - 14
Redcoats and another brit unit wiped out. Mahdists are left with 1 small unit which charges into the Naval Brigade.

Turn 15
Mahdists wiped out. Game Over.

End of games sees 1 british unit intact and all mahdist forces destroyed. All played in 2 and half hours. Very nice set of rules, a lot of fun and very fast to learn. Will be playing a solo Zulu War game over the weekend with the Washing the Spears set by the same author.
