Title: Walkers
Post by: Ettrick on 09 April 2011, 03:54:23 AM
I’ve always enjoyed walkers, perhaps being young when SW: Empire came out influenced that.  As a modeler and gamer, I’m forever looking for cool walker models or minis.

I’ve done conversions of the 1/144 gundam stuff and currently I'm working to build one of my own, but I also happened to come across Micropanzer Wargames Studio of the Slipstream Project.  The designer, sculptor, owner has a 15mm LIGHT ASSAULT WARBOT and a 32mm version as well.  I’m waiting for an order to arrive but in the meantime decided to drool over some more of his sculpting and concept art.  He has a running version of the LAW which looks excellent.

For now, this:  http://www.micropanzer.com/index.html

Later, I’ll share my own photos, too.

I’d like to hear what great walkers you’ve seen or got in your collections.  When I can, I’ll post pics of all the walkers I have.

Charge!

and a Hellcat Fury :

and I recently was given a Goliath Storm Strider by a friend who found it while cleaning up. (Still unpainted that one)
Also this one's resin whereas the others are metal.
here's a pic so you get an idea of the size :

I have gathered a lot of walkers too, but I can't really decide where to use them. VSF/ sci-fi or somewhere in between...

Really nice images!

A lot more response than I expected to this.  I'll need to take notes while I'm browsing because now that I've got to the bottom, I can't recall all the questions I had as I scrolled down.

This though:  Chris W., how many of your examples are scratchbuilt?  The Ghost in the Shell, the prototype model, and some WWII are not models I've seen before.

Inso, what went into the Twiddlybots?

zizi, is that scale shot with a 15mm or 28mm mini?

Tomsche, what is the thing in your 6mm Diamond Sharks with the dome?  (last pic)

Hi, most of my models involve some modification. "Full scratch" are all the GitS figures, the sand-colored six-legged one with the rotary cannon, the Heavy Gear Mammoth, and, due to the amount of work involved, Liberty Prime (also some kit parts were used, but amount to but a portion of the whole) and the Tripod.

Others are more or less involved kitbashs. These include the light gears (based on VOTOMs), the police robot (made from various parts, including Kryomek, Grenadier future warriors and GW).

The rest are more or less stock. 3W2 includes West Wind SotTR and Alterra 1 (formerly Sharkit, now sold and under redevelopment, AFAIK), a 1/144 YMS-15 "Gyan" from the Gundam universe; the red bot's from Excalibur Miniatures, the sand one a Future Warriors item. The blueish-grey SF3Dish mechsuit is also a Sharkit model.

It's great to see some Gundams. Years ago I downloaded a set of rules for playing games with Gundams, but finding enough of the right ones in the right scale is difficult in Australia. All I have is 3 RX-78s, two Zaku IIs and one Zaku II Command Type, all in 1/144.

Yje smaller ones are all by the overpresent Bandai, if you go to online stores like Play Asia or Mugen Toys and the likes, look under their gasaphon sections.  Usually knock you back around 5 to 8 USD + shipping on average.
Or you might try doing an ebay (I do it through ebay uk, not sure if that matters though) search on `gasaphon gundam`, that`s good for abaout 200 to 300 hits usually.

Anyway, I have one of the "small" Kotobukiyas for my Street Violence Stuff. Since it was only "out of the box" despite some soot painted on, I didn't put it in the above post, as with the Gundams (since they are not 28mm) and small Battlemechs (ditto). To follow up on that:

Sorry to say, I don't own any of the Ed209 minis...they look the part for Grymn and I'd love to own some...but I could never afford the amount I would need to suit my plans...but if anyone is of a similar mind and wanted smaller Ed209 type robots then look no further than Scotia Grendel:

I'm amazed at some of the stuff coming up here.  I really like the Kryomech walkers.  I can't remember having seen them before this thread.

My Micropanzer walker arrived but I've also started the next session of grad school so I've got to shift my priorities and minis are not high on my list of things to do.  My glaug is also more painted but not complete, so it will have to wait free time before finishing.  My custom kitbash is still not even primed though I had hoped to do it before resuming classes. :'(

I would say that they are perfect for Grymn/Space Dwarf miniatures in 28mm but may be a tiny bit small for standard humans in the same scale...the barrels of the weapons would be very thin.  If you used them like I have (guns as aerials) you'd probably get away with it but if you wanted gun-bots you'd need to upgrade the barrels with something a bit more substantial.

Its an old 1/32 scale vinyl kit. I got it off ebay for about a tenner, it was built and painted. I was going to use it as the base for another Battletech mech but it is waaaaay too big.

You know I think those spiders might actually have potential for 6mm dirtside as well.

I myself only have one walker, which is a 1/300 gundam death-scythe hell which I will use when Ganesha games releases Mighty monsters.

I am sooooooooo waiting for that game, all my General Unilateral Neuro-link Dispersive Autonomic Maneuver systems will be ready for action (well, those that got a paintjob at least  lol)
