They are very nice cars. I didn't look at each description, but I wonder how many pieces they come in.

Some are good because they are not represented in the diecast cars that are available. But some, like the first one, can be had for about $5 in diecast.

I'm always happy to have more of a selection though, might have to check them out at Fall In.

Do tell me where, and do they take creditcards!

I saw one of the trucks on my last trip to the shop. It was one peice of resin with white metal bits. I got to play with it a bit and the peices went together far easier than my Sloppy jalopy kit did.

I was told that there will be drivers and possibly passengers to go with these, something die case does not often accomodate since their scale is all over the place.

Does anyone know what kind of 28s scale this is?  People seem to vary between 1:48 and 1:60.

They look great but I wouldn't want cars to dwarf my 1:56 tanks.

See :D 28mm the whole scale saga as Rev says 1/56, 1/60 or 1/48 or possibly 1/43 all are used (especially with Diecast cars) what a tngled Web we gamers weave :D

I agree with both of you it's a bit hit and miss. I bought some Days Gone cars & vans from a car boot really cheap. They sort of look ok but compared to the cars of yesteryear rolls royce they look really small.

Any advice is welcomed did I waste my £2?

Dear Confused Dodge, dont listen to your friends, size isnt everything its the way you use it :D

Seriously though I think once you have your first batch of models, your best bet is to go with that scale. I chopped and changed with WW2 starting off with Westwind 1/56-1/60th then they stopped making them for a good while so I changed and sold them all off for Corgi 1/50th pre paint diecasts. Lovely and at the time it looked like they would expand the ranges..Sods law they stopped, no 251 no PZR 3 or 4 and Westwind, NZWM, Chieftain have now brought out a huge range of Gucci models and I cant use any of them unless I sell all the corgi stuff (again at a loss0 and start over.

Stick with your bargain uys until you see where the market is going, thats my advice

The way I look at it, you only need about a half dozen cars most times. Unless you're doing some kind of Great Race scenario.

Since most of mine end up as static pieces of terrain, they are rarely all placed next to one another so I don't worry about whether they are an exact match. And I know drivers and such look cool, but in most of the games I play in, the players don't have a seperate driving and standing model and we never want to slow the action down in order to put a driver into one.

As for where to find the diecast... I always do an ebay search first. You find things like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/MATCHBOX-MODELS-OF-YESTERYEAR-1911-MAXWELL-ROADSTER_W0QQitemZ250173295656QQihZ015QQcategoryZ16481QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I say stick with bargain cars unless you have a specific use for a more expensive car that can't be filled by a bargain (for example, see Ironworker's Sarge Truck in another thread).

As for scale, they posted over on TMP that they are 1/43 or 1/48.

A picture of them next to the gangster is here:

Its difficut when you are locked away in a small dank dark cell until you agree that it does

I will use my bargains for now as I can practice repaints on them.

Wheels are a bit dodgy though do you know where you can get older style wheels to put on? :)

Someone on TMP just pointed out that OG Army card holders will probably get their discount, so that drops them to about $14 in the states.

I'm with Rich on this one.  Stick with the cheapies, but pick these up if you need something specific.  I also don't get drivers.  Yeah it looks cool, but unless you got doubles of each model sitting and standing, what's the point.  Now if only they would make a flat bed truck.

I guess one could just as easily say what't the point with the minis and vehicles at all, just use cardboard chits. it's all in what you want to do with them. I think it looks silly to have a driverless vehicle moving around the table, but to each his own.

Cheers.

Big ones then, never mind.  If they were the other end of the scale, to fit in with the West Wind and BAM trucks and tanks I could have gone for them.

I'll stick to the wise words of the pulp sages here and stick to looking out for cheaper diecasts.

Sorry to bring up the whole scale thing.

Yes based on the TMP pictures
I would say they are 1:48th scale.  Which is A OK with me since that is the scale I have been buying all my pulp vehicles in.  I went round and round on which scale to use and after looking at alot of old movies it looked like a normal human's head came about level with the roof of most vehicles so I went with the 1:48th scale... also there is a huge selection in that scale too.  I think I will get a couple of these with my old glory army card! :D

Dodge:
You can sometimes get replacement wheels at Toy Collectors fairs, but they'd probably cost more than your cars.
Best bet is to keep looking at car boot sales & charity shops for cheap wheels to cannibalise.

There might be a Lledo collector's club, they might be able to get spare wheels, check out WHSmiths, I think there are a couple of diecast collectors magazines, that might have some addresses.

There is a yahoo group for diecast collectors, but it's only got a couple of dozen members so might not be much help.

Otherwise....was it £2 for the lot or each ?
If you're really not sure put them up here on the bazarre of obscurities, you could get your money back.

fastolfrus: Thanks for the advice. I'll have a mooch around and see.

They averaged about 40 p each so good for a practice. When I bought them it was one of those mind goes blank moments was it days gone of models of yesteryear oh bugger it they are only 40 p each. They lookabout right maybe a bit small I'll use them for scenery shots I expect.

Those castings on the original bit of this thread are good though and I may buy some sooner or later.

Thanks again
