So with work out of the way yesterday I decided to get started on a project I'd wanted to do for a while. I've always enjoyed the 80's Justice League and had harboured thoughts of putting the team together for the LPL but never got around to it. I decided to have a tinker around and see if I could come up with a model to get me started. Long story short by the end of the day I'd done 4!
I was quite chuffed with that and went off to bed having decided to paint one of them today. Once again, I did all four!
So I now have Guy Gardener, Ice, Booster Gold and Metamorpho ready for some villain bashing and tomorrow I plan on knocking up another model, maybe two.

Superb; I hope we get to see the rest of the mainstays of the Giffen-DeMatteis era JL/JLI such Martian Manhunter, Fire, Mister Miracle, Big Barda, Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, Oberon, Rocket Red, Doctor Fate, Max Lord etc. :D
Great work!
-
Brilliant!! :-*

Great work!
That's the plan! Along with Crimson Fox, Elongated man, Power girl and maybe even her battered old moggy.

You talented bastard, I'm not coming to the club now, too jealous ;D
Great stuff there :-* :-*
I do have to ask though, was the creator of the characters scraping the barrel for names lol
cheers

As if you'd come to the club anyway you slack git... ;D
And as for the names I will have you know that they are some of the greatest character names ever!!!
(Although in fairness finding an original name for a hero after 70 odd years of comic book superheroes is pretty difficult, not that there are that many really cool ones.)
-
Holy greenstuff, Batman! Did you sculpt most of those?
-
Nice figures. Just promise me it won't be head-band Power Girl.
-
Superb work with both putty and brush sir!
Any chance they'll be available anywhere, i'd buy a set,

jim

Well if I stick to them all being the same era...
No, I think, on reflection, that cleavage Power Girl is the way forward.
As far as them being available, they are one off sculpts (and a conversion) so unfortunately not. Although if I can find someone to release them I do have a yearning to do a load of supers (nothing I could be sued for though...).
-
Lovely work Soapy.
Cheers,
Helen
-
Great stuff. Not a series I am familiar with, although I think there are a good few issues in the loft that I inherited from somewhere, but they are some of the best supers I have seen and I would love to see more.
-
One of my favorite books back in the day. Booster Gold and Blue Beetle were the best.
Brian
-
Great conversions Soapy. Guy looks very good. The sculpting and pj are perfect.
-
Booster Gold and Blue Beetle were the best.
I have a friend who still sends me updates whenever there is ever any mention of those two.
And the figures are great. Makes me want to go digging through boxes to find those original comics.
-
You did a great job on all of them. They got the team back together recently in Justice League Generation Lost. It's a really good book.
-
i really like them! the paintjob is really cool, even on the flat surfaces!
-
The Elongated Man. Does exactly what it says on the tin.
-
Not Stretch Armstrong then lol
I'm assuming there is a wire armature under all that?
cheers
James
-
Yep, it was a bit of a struggle doing it too. Your eye tells you to bulk up the area to make the proportions look right. It was a bit of a 'mare trying to get the body parts thin enough but it worked out okay after I gave my self a stern talking to and remembered that this wasn't a 1/18 scale normal bloke but rather a 1/56 scale loooooooong bloke. ::)
-
Another cracking sculpt :-* :-* :-* PJ is bloody nice too
-
Your Ralph could be the best of the bunch so far - very dynamic and probably one of the best 'stretch hero' sculpts I have seen. Kudos. :)

my favourite superhero!
nice work, and good painting with the red and yellow, both quite difficult to make look good.
Shame they're not going to be produced :'(

I think that's just a re-paint of the Hypertime Heroclix Flash, and a good one too. If it's not than that is a realy excellent job.

Nope, it's a scratch build, same as the others. Although, having just looked that one up (I've never much liked the clix figures) they do look quite similar.
Cheers,
Soaps.
-
Oh shoot, my apologies! I mixed this up with another thread I was looking at of re-paints. It's a similar pose, but then again, how many different ways can you pose a guy whose power is running. That's a really great job on the Flash! You even got the lightening belt right. If I'm right, Wally's points down and Barry's goes straight around his waist.
-
Soapy, Soapy, Soapy!! Why oh why did you paint Ernie East aka The Strike ::) or any of the others for that matter ???. We are all chomping to buy castings of such good GENERIC supers, they are, to use a word I have not used for thirty years, ace!!

No worries, and you're right about the pose...
Wally's costume was very much the same as Barry's (especially during the period I'm doing) but was later changed to the white eyes and pointed belt version which was all his own and which I prefer.

GB are never going to do a superhero range and I can't afford to produce them myself so I'm afraid they are for my table only, sorry. That being said, assuming I don't burn myself out on my own stuff, I'm always up for producing a range. Just need my own Maxwell Lord to back it. ::)

I think you have to stop now Soapy,
that has to be the best idea for a pose/sculpt
i have ever seen, and the best executed.
Fantastic work, you have to find someone to produce a new range of supers sculpted by you,
regards
jim

Nicely thought out and well executed. Is Guy underneath that blast?
-

If he's not then he should be, after the way he treated Ice...
Thanks for the great comments all. In the interests of full disclosure though I should note that all of the female models are based on Hasslefree miniatures as I can't sculpt ladies to anywhere near that standard.

Captain Atom
Crimson Fox
Martian Manhunter
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f235/soapywan/league.jpg)
And so with 10 heroes under my belt I think I'll take a break for a while.
Cheers,
Soaps.
-
This is a superb project; wehn can we get the 'team shot'?
-
I think that these are getting better as they go along...! You really ought to consider making some non-licensed generic superhero figures for sale.
-
Crimson Fox, is well a fox :-*

Indeed.
After your JL/I/E 'break', will we see the likes of Blue Beetle, Mister Miracle & Barda & Oberon, Max Lord, Doctor Fate (Linda body?), General Glory et al?

Rocket Red, Batman, Beetle animal Man and Power girl (if I ever find a good donor body) will be the next batch and as I re-read the series I'm sure more will be added. The first additions would likely include the members I've missed already so Dr Light, Barda (not sure if this counts but she went on a mission), both Dr Fates, Captain Marvel and Black Canary.
I do quite fancy doing a General Glory though...
-
Seeing these in the flesh on Monday, I can atest to their quality :-*
Ha ha ha they're shit on the gaming table though ;D
I've managed to scrape together five bods that'll just about do, they'll have better names though ;D
cheers
James

Sounds like a challenge Mr B. prepare your forces to face the might(allegedly) of the Justice League[after a slight stat modification]!
Also, your names will be mocked mercilessly (even though they will likely be cooler...).
-
Great group shots. I'm not into this genre, but you certainly make it look attractive.
-
First of four new members finished.
Dr Fate.

Not sure how I missed this one, but you have got some tallent there!
Any chance of seing some more WIP shots of your minis; your painted ones are great, but I get all inspired when I see your WIP. It makes me think I could do soemthing similar (which I couldn't- but it's nice to dream)

Rocket Red in his Apokolips armour.

Love the cape but is that a handbag in his hand?
cheers
James
-
It's a grapnel gun, nice, but a little too slight and the cape's under folded if you get what I mean. Lovely lovely pieces though. Next up?
-
The cape is unusual, and I know what Vyper means by "under folded", but I really like it stylistically. It has a sort of pen-and-ink, line-drawing look to it that works great with the Batman.

Well that's what I was going for so it must have worked on some level. ;)

More great work Soapy; I love this project. :-*

A bit more animated adventures rather than comic book, I see that. Do another! ;)
-
Shading into Bruce Timm territory, though he'd need to be a bit more angular for that.
(Hmmm - minis based on BT's artwork... There's something to consider!)
-
Spiffy work all around. I REALLY LIKE THE BUG! Can't wait to see what you do for Blue Beetle, one of my all time favorite Charelton Comics characters along with Captain Atom.
Tom
-
the angular straight line cloak is very stylised and very stylish,
i think it works really well, nice to see a sculptor with a feel for different graphic novel artists styles. I don't think you could have chosen a more appropriate look Soapy!

jim

Soapy. Your work is amazing. I love these sculpts and paintjobs.
Now, do the same treatment for 80's GI Joe (particularly the baroness) and send them to me. ;)
-
Now there's a project that I've had in mind for a long time. One day I'll get round to it and in a generic enough way that they can be released. One day, one day...

Loving the JLI in the mean-time. :)

oh damn, forgot about that! I've just this weekend sold the collection. At some point soon Action force and the Red Shadows will be winging their way to their new home clearing the decks for their successors at some point...

Timely.... ::) ;). Put the guy onto me if he's interested.
Shadow heads still available?

Yes. This would make my dreams come true. Many of the first series Joes are generic enough on their own to be, well, generic. The later ones like Zartan would be more tricky.
-
Superb work! Brought to of my fave supers to life (batman & flash)! Excellent stuff mate keep the coming.
-
And so some new members are added to my league. Two are in the wrong uniform and one is in the wrong incarnation of the League entirely but I like the characters so added them in. All of these models are Heroclix conversions to some degree or another.
Black Canary. The only conversion to this model is to have a millimetre or two chopped out of her calves to bring her hight down to match the rest of the team.
Power Girl. Started life as a Marvel clix model called Diamondback. Handy model as a basic pose with minimal detail to erase. With shortened legs and a new head, boobs, boots and a cape the jobs a good-un.
Zatanna. Again based on an Marvel clix model, this time Roulette. Anther one with a good basic pose. Shortened the legs again and then added the Zatanna costume.
I may have misjudged these clix models, there are a few good-uns in there.

Lovely stuff again Soapy!
I preferred your Marvel characters (because I prefer Marvel in general) but these are at the same high standard.
It is your fault I have spent the last couple of weeks sculpting some heroes of my own :D.

Glad to be of service. Liked the tiny Black Widow by the way.

Great conversion on Powergirl. I tried using the Clix powergirl figure and repainting. She does not look near as good as yours.
