Okay, Pete ought to know this one, if we can just call a cease-fire for a minute.
Who makes nice swivel guns? The longer-barrelled, more baroque, exotic and foreign-looking the better. On a nice naval mount. Got no use for the gunners, but I'll buy 'em if need be if they don't come separate. Need three or four.
Seen the Foundry ones, they're okay. Might do. But what else is there?
-
My Pirate boat has brass ones from a model ship fitters. Too long ago to remember which company though, sorry.

EUREKA !
from its pirates range, and just £1,2
Meow,
Matt
-
Yeah, Eureka gets my vote. Although Jo is probably already calling Martin Baker so she can post greens of a Black Cat swivel gun tomorrow. :)
-
Thanks fellas. Eureka it is. I simply must insist on ordering them today, greens or no greens.
(I bet I regret that when I see the greens.)
-
Stronghold also produce some as do Old Glory but they come with crew figures
-
Dixon Miniatures do one too. Price £1.00 ~ IIRC
-
There have been many simpler suggestions already, but for what it's worth, Gary Chalk's scratchbuilt pirate ships use 15mm scale cannon barrels to good effect.
By the way, as I've been on one of my off-periods regarding the hobby and reading these forums lately: What's there to call a cease-fire about? :?:

Polynikes and I are having a war over which font is superior: Caslon Antique or Times New Roman. No, really. This is not so much an actual war as it is the latest in a series of manufactured controversies to entertain you, the forum reader.
Gott mit Caslon
-
Don't get me wrong, I don't consider Times New Roman to be a particularly impressive font, I merely chose it as an example to show up Caslon's fatal flaw. Caslon beats it hands down in all departments, save for one.
But it is the most important point, and thus worth fighting for.

Being a little bit of a Francophile (alright, my Anglophilia beats it by miles!), and absolutely not immune to Ms. Knowles´ allure, I deftly side with Plynkes on that issue. I mean, we can make without umlauts, but without des accents? *in my best deGaulle-persona: "Non, Messieurs!!!"
Vive le mouton anglo-francais!
-
Actually Pete we already have one! And it was not made by Martin but "in house" here! I am not ready to release it yet though, it will be part of the medium and large ship kits and will be released alongside them hopefully before Christmas, then they will be available seperately as well. Jo
-
Plynkes - Any chance we can see the ship they are being mounted on?
-
I didn't say I was mounting them on a ship. Whatever it is that they'll be mounted on doesn't exist yet. I wanted to make sure I could get the guns I wanted before taking any further steps.
I'm keeping it under my hat for now, in case nothing comes of it. It isn't anything very spectacular, though.
If it is a project that gets off the ground, though, rest assured that the first place I post any pics will be here.

Heretics it has to be AriAl in all its glory
Arial - The Father
Arial Black - The Son
Arial Narrow - the Holy Ghost
From the Book of Arial
-
Arial's okay with me, as it has an "e" acute, unlike some fonts around here.

You've been so receptive to what people are looking for in the pirate line, I imagined it wouldn't take long for you guys to release your own. I'm looking forward to seeing it and the ship kits!
-
I wonder why noone makes simple cannons for kitting out our pirate ships and sells them (relatively) cheap in bags of 20 or so?
(Yes, this is a hint)
-
Hi,
Pete, thanks for that, good to know we are getting something right! If you look on our workbench: http://www.blackcatbases.com/page.asp?id=workbench you will see the master for the ship, it is almost there, it will have a wheel and cannons, swivel guns, railings, ladders and various metal add ons! Once it is released you will be able to buy all the bits seperately and things like cannons and swivel guns will (as is normal for us) be cheaper the more you buy!
Thanks Jo

How intriguing! 8)
I'll just look forward to it then...

Hi Guys,
Not to get too far off the font argument, but...
I got my swivel guns from Flagship Games:

Positive vibes to all!

Flagship Games has a swivel gun and other canons in its Pirates! line:

I got some flagship games swivel guns with a couple of ships and they didnt come with any mounts, which is a pain in the a$%. Maybe they are meant to come with mounts but you might want to check with them first.
I also got some Eureka swivel guns and I think they are nicer anyway.
-
The Flagship Games swivel guns are designed to fit into holes already existing in the ship models.
