Title: SA tokens
Post by: pixelgeek on 14 April 2011, 02:53:38 PM
I am going to be putting an order in to Litko for some custom Strange Aeons tokens and was wondering what other people thought would be use useful for the game.

I have:
Face Up
Face Down (for minis that you don't want to or can't physically place face down)
Heroic (to mark that someone still has the ability to ise)
Jammed
Alert
Frenzy
Bear Trap

What else will I need?

I have piles of wound tokens so I won't be needing those.

A Frenzy token would be good...as it lasts till the end of the Turn. Also, some of the spells have persistent effects. Plus, you may want to get a Bear Trap token...just in case there were some cool new rules coming out in Shocking Tales #2... ;)

Wound tokens for models (usually beastly or demonic Lurkers) that have multiple wounds. I sometimes use one If I can remember to take one out of my case.

I use a dice to mark most of these since they are readily on hand.  A dice showing a 1 can serve as a 'jammed' marker or can easily serve as a wound counter, turn counter, action counter... :? or just as  a dice  ;)

Oddly enough I have a painted bear ready to go.

Thanks for the suggestions Uncle Mike. I'll go over the spells to see what I might need as well. Especially the Witch's spells :-)

I have a really bad habit of grabbing dice and using them and then forgetting what it was supposed to be.

Tokens are a really handy thing for me as I won't pick them up and re-use them for an attack roll and its very easy to instantly see what they mean.

If you want to stick to "general" ongoing effects, Poison and Fire are probably worthwhile.  Things get kind of specific after that, such as scenario-specific conditions and spell effects, more of which are coming in ST#2.  Another one that may come in handy is Searched markers, which may appear on the ST#2 counter sheet if there's any space left for them.

Now before there's a run on purchases of bear models: despite the presence of the bear trap, there are no bears in the new expansion, just traps.  There are, however, a number of far older and much larger animals that will make an encounter with a bear look like a pleasant Sunday picnic!  This is of course not to say that wouldn't eventually do a bear, maybe for something along the lines of a set of Threshold-RCMP co-operative scenarios.  You know, like Jack London with tentacles  8)

Sweet. My LPL Season 4 Round 10 entry fits that perfectly.  I have been using those "Mounties" as Threshold Agents on a couple lists so far.

The tokens sound like a great idea.

I have both RCMP and a bear figure, and I just had a though on how to make a mini bear trap for a game, so I might give it a go when I get the time.

Make a bear trap out of brass sheet, it's something I might have a go at, but it's not some thing I think you  would see in the game,if it's hidden then I would think it's a roll on the dice to see if it's stepped on.

Just to clarify what Lidless said: there will be no model of Jack London with tentacles...although, now that I've said it... :P

... ???...

Years ago I made a couple from those plastic GW Ork iron jaw helmet bits - get two the same & face them to each other...simples.  :)

the GW Ogre bulls ( the basic warriors) sprue has  a bear trap opened out being used as a weapon in one of the hands.

It's dead easy to cut the ogre fingers away, leaving a lovely bear trap model, that's what i'll be using.

regards
