Title: Darkest Africa buildings
Post by: cram on April 28, 2011, 10:35:48 AM
Been looking for resin buildings for Darkest Africa. I've found some nice looking natives huts sold by Grand Manner, but what I'm after are the buildings used by Europeans in South/East and Central Africa. I've had no luck at all so far in finding any! Searches on the internet have so far only brought up adobe building for North Africa, which although very nice, they are'nt what I'm looking for right now! If anyone can direct me to some sites I'd be very grateful.

Ones last thing, does anyone know if Monolith Design have gone out of business? Their site has been down for the past week.

They're cast from the GW stockholders' tears…  lol

That Frontline building is very, very nice by the way. :-*

80 pounds?! Fuck me... I think I did the Sisters of Little Mercy mission house in less than 10 hrs for less than 10 quid's worth of corkboard, coffee stirrers and terry cloth. I know, I know... I already hear the old argument about having a two left thumbs but at those prices, surely it is worth considering?

Alternatively, buy the Frontline one, which costs about £20.

Jebus Plynkes, I'm trying not to buy anything else and you go and post that great finished product of the Frontline building.  :(

DAMN YOU!

Sorry about that, Bravo Six.  lol

Are you in the US?

To save you a bit on postage and that, I'm sure somebody over there carries the Frontline range. Now it's just a matter of remembering who it is.  ???

Plynkes,

Where's the other building from? (bottom left of your pic)

It's the very same Ainsty district hut that Joroas linked to in the post above my first one.

Slightly better view of it in this pic taken from the opposite direction:

I suspected as much.

Very nice! Thanks.

Currently debating picking both buildings up for an embryonic 60s Congo smack down.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I'm going to go with the Ainsty and Frontline stuff, very nice buildings at a very good price. The Redoubt looks very nice, my girlfriend would skin me alive if I forked out that amount of money though (although she'll spend that and more on shoes and think nothing of it).

The scratch built buildings look really great by the way!  :-*

Anyone know if Monolith still exist? The sites been down for a week that I know of. Be a shame if their not around anymore, they had some nice stuff.

I put in  quite a large order about a year ago. It took quite a long time to get the stuff and communication was erratic. Lovely stuff thou and the owner is quite nice.

Does anyone have a photo of the Frontline steamer? I quite fancy one and might put in an order for one +  the building in the photo above + other stuff.

cheers,

Mark

Excellent question, d(sqrt(-1))... I am also intrigued by the Frontline steamer. Other than that, very cool thread. Thanks for the links and inspiration.

Does anybody know if the Frontline African building has a lift off roof like their wild west buildings?

Thanks Plynkes - it's now gone from a 'like to have' to a 'must have'!

By the way... I was just looking for some farm buildings online and it seems not all Europeans took good care of their farm. Painting them too cleanly might be a historical mistake.  lol

It looks as if Plynkes' farm was drawn for this postcard:

Ok, I've put in an order for the building + steamer today, so I'll post a photo when they arrive, hopefully next week sometime.

A question for Plynkes - in your photo above you've got some "long grass"  - I found a mat of this, by Aqua One, in our local garden centre today. Looks like you've mounted the base spigot, textured over it and then put the plant back on. Any other recommendations? It's a bit luminous as it is, I was wondering about trying to tone down the greenness of it all...

cheers,

Mark

I'll look forward to seeing a pic of the steamer, feeling very tempted to order one myself.

For those of you interested in adobe buildings for North Africa, I found these recently, their very nice and come ready painted http://www.thewcp.co.uk/shop.php?pageNum_rs=0&totalRows_rs=15&CatID=112 not sure I'd want to pay the price myself though.

Ouch! They are a bit steep - what's with these really expensive buildings lately?
