Title: Late German uniform II WW color
Post by: LotB on 28 April 2011, 02:01:37 PM
Hi,
please, someone would be so kind to tell me what color Humbrol and/or Valleyo I could use to replicate on my 28 mm Warlord minies the green color of the late German uniforms in use since 1944, which I read it was indicated with the name of "sage green"?
Many thanks,
bye,

Hi,
The fieldgrey wich was used on the standard tunic (M36-M43) were all the same Fieldgrey, which is a green tone plus a bit of grey ( I use German Field Grey from Vallejo plus adding Pale Sand or a bright Grey). In May '44, the new tunic was introduced which remembered to the britih battle dress. The colour was a so called Field Grey '44 wich was brown and grey. The thing is, that the factories were totally outbombed and germany lack out of recources. Because of this, the late fieldgrey colour often variats.

Here are some examples:

"M44" Uniform: "Totally new jacket. This was such a radical change to the tunic design, that the Germans actually called it "Modelle 1944" or "1945". Short, 2 pocket coat, similar to the US Ike Jacket or British battle dress."

M36 Jacket (Which was used until 1945 but stopped being produced in 1940)

And this is how the colour can be different - all the same tunics:
