I had an idea for a while now to build an aether ship that would do the Earth/Mars run.
His Imperial Majesties Aether Ship Mikasa
I'm still working out the details and sketching but today I have been making a test peice for the side 'viewing' decks to get the proportions right before I start to draw anything in cad.
The idea is to have interior access and limited lighting...
Needless to say that this is going to be long term ::) lol
Pictures to follow this evening of the sample :)
cheers

Looking forward to more already - get on with it then
-
so how big is this ship going to be?
-
... and how easy will it be for Malamute to shoot it down? :)

lol lol lol
You beat me to it. lol lol lol

You guys are sooooooo funny ;D
I'm thinking it'll be about 2-3 foot long but this is no way decided yet and it'll be armed and armoured so if you think your poxy little flyers can take it on, be my guest... :P
Sample piccys below. There are still quite a few things to sort out, material thicknesses, plank spacing, location of lighting rig, how to get inside etc so this is only a teaser for the time being ;D
I'll get a coat of paint on it over the weekend as well.
First off we have the separate parts which will make it easier to paint

Then the whole assembly
(http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk138/jimbibbly/VSF/Aether%20flyer/DSCF7255.jpg)
A view down the corridor and my sculpted crewman for scale (he's about 28mm for toes to top of head)
And a close up of the riveting, I think they need spacing out a little bit more...
There might be a bit of height given to the corridor sections because my Copplestone 'Japanese' are brushing the ceiling on the top deck.
I'm also open to suggestions for a colour scheme both inside and out. Thinking lighter colours on the inside and darker on the outside.
There will be the solar boiler, a command deck and staterooms etc...
C+C always welcome
cheers
James

whooa! Stunning stuff ;D

That guy took the order a little too literally when the captain announced "All hands abandon ship!" :)
Sorry.

:-*
Nice start!
Super detailing in the interior.

He's 'armless.
Lovely,lovely :) work there JB.

Wow! That looks great!
-
Excellent stuff. That ship's going to be big enough to fight a skirmish game inside!
-
Thanks chaps (apart from the groan worthy jokes ;D ;) )
I undercoated it today and here we have a couple of photos that show it off a bit better. I'll probably paint it tomorrow...

It's not just the Japanese that could use it ;)

Love it!

Great start :-* :-* :-*
Are you going to glaze the portholes?
-

Sorry.
I was going to say JB is very handy at sculpting, but........ :( lol
Seriously, he is a very nice figure indeed - presumably the missing mitts are ready to be glued on? Unarmed sailors are very rare and always useful as miscellaneous crew figures. Any chance he might be released commercially?
The rivets look ok as they are, but presumably there will be thousands more of them, so spacing them out more may be a good idea.
This looks like it could be the next "big thing" after Gamer Mac's recent insanity.

Oooooh! It's going to be a biggun! Great work, as usual, so far. :-*
and it'll be armed and armoured so if you think your poxy little flyers can take it on, be my guest... :P
I sketched some aerial mines not too long ago. They might do the job ;).

Awaiting further developments.

Thanks chaps :)
And now for some paint :D
I've kept the colour scheme the same as my existing neffs as it's easier (and none of you buggers suggested anything ;D ;) )

Now down to designing the bloody thing ::) I have an idea of what I want now as to layout etc so I'll get some sketches done today or tomorrow and post accordingly :)
@Colin, the windows will be separate elements to be glued in after the painting to keep them clean.
It will be weathered a bit more because it doesn't just fly through the aether ;)
cheers

Better add some battle damage and powder burns as well then ;)
-
So will you be putting a Dazzle pattern to the finished ship? ;)
-
:-*
Very nice!
Looking forward to the sketches.

Sorry, I thought it was going to stay translucent. 'Lovely stealth dig gondola, no?' ;->=
Tis a great beauty already, and it seems it's just begun?!?
Don't forget the final image post in the sticky!
