Hi Guys, some of you may have seen this from other sites.
I built this 28mm ranch a while back and thought you'd like to see it. It's 4 feet long by 3 feet wide.
I still have a few more things to build for it when i get time.

Beautiful! It's not just the details, which are splendid (the louvered panel above the door of the barn, the chicken in the coop, and so on), it's the overall look of it too. The lumber that makes up the structures is perfect - how did you paint it? Tips and descriptions would be greatly appreciated by everyone, I think!
Oh, it needs to be said, the two models you posted for scale are also beautifully painted -are there more?
-
I love it! :-*

Superb! :o I love it! :-*

Sorry, i forgot to add this:
The whole ranch is made from foamcore (walls) and the rooftops are all strips of breakfast cereal box.
Polystyrene rocks.
I painted it by wet blending mostly.
The colours used were:Black undercoat, Dark brown, medium brown, desert sand and light grey.
Vallejo paints would be:
German cam black brown 822
English Uniform 921
German cam orange ochre 824?
Light grey 990
Woodgrain lines were done with a dark brown wash.
Cheers Guys ;)

Did you paint on the wood grain? :o It looks more like strips of balsa wood on your foamcore it's that good!

Where is all the amazing wild west terrain suddenly coming from ???
Gorgeous work :-* :-* :-*
Figures are great as well.

Absolutely stunning terrain piece, Gazjones, and welcome to our board!

All planking was just scored into the foamcore using a fine tip ballpen.
The only wood on the whole ranch are the fence posts and verandah struts.
Oh yeah and the water trough is made from a lollystick (popsicle stick)
Painting woodgrain shows my sad life.. lol

Great model. Thanks for posting. Another idea to be copied is fled away on the 'to do' list.

This sort of ranch could easily be adapted to other eras - add a few Model Ts and guys with tommyguns and suddenly it's a stronghold of bootleggers or smugglers between the wars! Add mutants, possibly zombies and some more rusted corrugated iron and it's a post-apoc or AC57 setting.
As I think I've said before, this is why I keep an eye on the Old West board - the most inspiring buildings of any of LAF's boards!
-
Foamcore!? I'm stunned - it's absolutely superb! And thank you for the pics of a game in progress - it looks amazing. Brilliant stuff.
-
Spectacular. Very impressive woodwork!

okay, gaz, wash your ranch is some Really, Really Hot Water so it shrinks down to 15 mm size - and then send it off to me! :-* Very nice.
Now I'm thinking of how to sculpt up some 15 mm rattlers. Don't know why that came up from checking out your work, but it did. Maybe it was watching True Grit, the John Wayne version.

When I was in university, I met a guy whose grandfather was in a travelling circus (seriously) and this kid could do sleight of hand tricks, and I mean the real business. Funny thing was, even after he showed me what he was doing in slow motion, I still couldn't spot it when he was back at full speed.
What am I saying? You tell me its foamcore... you claim it's textured with a ballpoint pen and paint... then, I go back and look at the original photos. I don't see it. You have blindsided me with your skill. I've seen other buildings on these boards with more details, masterfully rendered and realized but, I have to say, in terms of capturing a mood, these are the best scratch-built buildings I've ever seen.
I take my hat off to you sir.

Thanks! to all you Guys for your wonderful comments....you're great!!
