Wow! It's seems like ages since the LPL has started. Well now the work is finally over it's back to normal for me and building stuff.
My brother Colin is running a VSF game with our Wednesday night gaming group. Last week the game ended with us stealing (dam! I mean borrowed!) a boat to chase down the baddies. In a passing comment Colin said 'there you go, you can build two steam launches for next week'. So.....

The first one took an hour to build. Originally I tried to go for a more rounded shape using blue foam, but it didn't work. So this is just cereal box card, a bottle top and half a kinder egg. The funnel is a wee bit of scrap tube I had left and solder leading from the gauge to underneath the boiler.
Anyway a hope it's what he had in mind for his game...

Brilliant ;D... and inspried use of a Kinder egg :D

Hooray :) Good to see you back Andy ;)
Can't wait to see paint on it 8)

Second ones done. Now I just need to paint them. Any preference of colours Colin?

Cheers for the comments guys!

Varnished wood and brass are the proper colours for these things :D

Great stuff 8)
Can I just ask why you use the card that way round, I tend to use it grey side up as you get a nice texture when it's painted.
cheers

I think he's going to clad it...

That one funnel is REALLY raked over... perhaps a wire strut to keep it upright?
-
I like the angle but I think it's too long.

I have a bunch of those Kinder eggs. Bought them for the Dinosaur skeletons. Nice to have som more ideas to use them. >:D

It depends what I'm building. For these I wanted a smooth finished because I planned to put gloss varnish on them after they were painted.

The angle, I'm afraid, I like. I was trying to add character to the second one. I agree that it's probably a bit long but I started painting it before I read your comment Dean. Ah well it'll probably only get used for one week anywho. It's just a quick model so we can play out our chase scene in our game on Wednesday night.
Anyway I think I've finished....

I know you said they should all be wood and brass buy I fancied some colour in one of them. I was thinking of painting the first one White/green at one point.
Anyway I hope you like them......

Very nice. I particularly like the paintjob on the wooden one.

A super job, well done! A simple wire from the top of the smokestack to the front of the boiler would set it right imho

Another really cool idea and a fantastic paint job!
I wish I played something that needed boats to build a few myself...
Cheers!

Just a small update. Seen as I had a bit of time and due to popular demand...

Hopefully that rigging sorts the ship out....

Beautiful work! Hopefully some one doesn't "borrow" them from you during your next game!!
-
That fixes it :D
Looks great.
Now just to hope the Davy doesn't make an appearance lol
-
Those are as good as that crab thingy :-* 8)
-
I LOVE the brown boat, it is Amasing! :-*
-
As always Andy beautiful builds. The painting on your sea bases is very effective and really sets these launches off and gives them a feeling of motion.
