Lovely work Frank :-* Just cracking,I concede defeat ;)
-
Really close call
-
Wow, two really great entries! Well done, and I'm sorry Blackwolf doesn't get the votes he deserves, but Franks scene is so eye-catching I don't even care what movie it's from, well done!
-
Great work by both!
Frank, can you provide some more photos after the competition? I would like to see more ;D
-
There is a rather wonderful irony about my entry ;)
-
Interesting- looks like the movie Khartoum got pretty close to the famous painting by G.W. Joy, I never noticed that. Great job with the Perry diorama Frank.
Blackwolf, really nice entry, very atmospheric scene, good work again!
-
famous painting
Hey!
Now there is a great idea of a theme for next year!
-
I second that :)
-
I really like your picturestyle Blackwolf. There is something like a taste of the past. Brilliant work!
...and I also like the idea with the famous painting!
-
Both great, but once again Frank you stole the show with your awesome entry! :-* :-* :-* :-*

Both are great entries - but the painting of Khartoum is just fantastic. Well done to both.

I need to do some reading if we add famous paintings to next years LPL...
Franks painting is fantastic, a really well presented vignette. Any links to a picture the painting it reminds every one of?
Blackwolf - your pictures are as well composed as your painting. Was that all one scene or did you blend a few shots? Are you using a different lense for that gritty feel or a photoshop filter? Your presentation style is very distinctive.

Courtesy of Wikipedia, which naturally also has articles on General Gordon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_George_Gordon) and on the Siege of Khartoum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Khartoum).
Frank's scene really is astonishingly close to the painting. How much conversion was needed for that, Frank, or does someone produce a set of figures to recreate that vignette?
-
It's a diorama by the Perry twins (partly anyway): "SU1 General Gordon's Last stand" from the line "The Sudan - Extra's".

Lovely work on it and all the other models fit in perfectly! The building also looks very convincing, did you use the part of the building provided with the diorama? Either way it's fabulous!
-
WOW. :o and I thought I was impressed before... :-* That is top quality work.
-
Thank you! :D
No, I didn't use the Perry stairs...it was easer to build the "whole" building in one part.
-
I've got that Perry set in my 'to be painted' pile. I really must get round to finishing it.
-
Stunning effort both...
One of only a couple of times were my voting decision was so long-winded in being made...
-
2 amazing pictures, and that Khartoum vignette is museum quality. Well done guys!
-
Absolutely fantastic Frank but I also reckon that Blackwolf's entry is also brilliant and would ordinarily have won were it not pitted against Frank's
-
Her Majesty's Government thought that because Gordon could do it in China, he could do it in Africa. I wonder if the US Govt., didn't make the same mistake in Afghanistan.
Great entries guys, hard to pick between.
Frank, you shame me every time. I look at my own stuff and feel like a third grader looking at a Vallejo or Frazetta. (Meant as a compliment, only in the best way possible.)
-
Congratulations Frank,I didn't stand a chance :) Maybe next year?
-
Thank you! ...and yes, we will meet again next year! :)
