I ordered a pack of the Perry Miniatures 'Rioters with firearms' from their ACW range a couple of weeks back in the hope that they'd do as some criminal types for my ongoing Gothic Horror project. I was initially unsure about how they'd scale in with the Westwind, Artizan and Brigade Games minis I'd already got, but any uncertainties were quickly dispelled upon their arrival. I've painted a few up over the last weekend and to demonstrate their compatibility have taken some comparison shots alongside models from the aforementioned manufacturers. As is to be expected these are superb miniatures which ooze character and I think thoroughly look the part of dodgy Cockney geezers!

The Artizan figure looks a little bit the odd duck out, huh? But nothing horrible. Great paintjobs.
-
Artizan are certainly the biggest of the bunch and these photos seem to accentuate the difference. 'In the flesh', though, the size disparity isn't so obvious.
-
What a paintjob!!! :o ;D
i also thought about using this rioters for some gothic horror settings, but don't
know about the comparision with westwind minis.
Thank's for sharing!!
Are the building in the background resin or scratchbuild? They look fantastic!

What a gang of cads... :)
Very nice looking, how did you do the cobblestones on the bases ? They are splendid (as is the figures).

Thanks for your comments, Hombre. The building is actually the Empress Miniatures SCW Factory with some additions of my own. An expensive but very nice piece of resin!

Haha! This us actually the most laborious process relating to these models! Very simply I roll lots of little balls from Milliput. When these are dry I paint some slightly runny Filler onto the model's base and then drop the 'cobbles' on with tweezers. Leave to dry and voilĂ ! Actually I've since seen another cobblestone method involving the tip of a retractable pen (with tip retracted) and Milliput, but it's too late for me now!

Do you have any of the Victorian gangsters from The Virtual Armchair General to add to your lineup?
-
Excellent, up to your usual high standard. :)
Haven't forgotten Abraham, been a bit preoccupied recently!

'Fraid not, old cock.

Ta! Recently bought obscure Hammer Demons of the Mind (http://www.britishhorrorfilms.co.uk/demons.shtml) cheap from Amazon and thoroughly recommend it. Can't believe I haven't checked it out sooner.

They look like they're looking for a bit of trouble. Splendid!
-
Jolly nice. Love the cobbles.
-
I think the figure fit fine with the other ranges.
The paint jobs are great, as are the bases and the back ground. :-* :-* :-*
-
I like those a lot! As the others said, great work with the cobbles. In terms of size, build etc they all fit in well together. The Artizan looks a bit too "American" to me, but they are a great gang of thugs for the usual criminal mastermind to boss around.
Any chance of a shot of the whole factory building? I've never seen it before but it looks ideal for Victorian useage.

Thanks for the kind comments fellas.

Actually I'm going to use him as Quincy Morris (the Westwind chap on the far left is probably going to be J. Harker) because, as you rightly point out, he does look a bit 'Wild West'!

I'll see what I can do. There is an unpainted pic. here (http://www.empressminiatures.com/userimages/procart10.htm) on the Empress site, but as I said I've jazzed mine up somewhat.

Then he will be needing a Bowie knife and Harker will need a Kukri knife too ;) lol

He'll be perfect as Quincey. Of course, he should definitely have a Bowie knife! Should be fairly easy to add one to his left hand.
Likewise with your Harker model - should be easy to stick a Kukri in his left as well, should you feel the need.
Shame they've already been so well painted ::)
-
Nice I want thesse 4 packs of rioters for my GONY I have the Brigade, TVAG ones and these will fit pretty well. I also have some of the victorians from Westwind, foundry etc so all should be ok

Well, I thought that if I left such specific details out then these models would do in other non-Dracula scenarios too (this decision has nothing to do with my laziness, I can assure you!)!
Gluteus and Hombre: Here are some quick snaps of the Empress factory:

The plan is for my Gothic Horror board to comprise a run-down industrial area with small workshops and railway track et cetera and a large cemetery, all of which should fairly well cover a 4'x4' board. I've just finished the graveyard (I'll hopefully post some images of this in the near future) and have to add some more to the industrial area, but I'm almost there!

Lovely work on the that factory, I really like all the small details, manhole cover, street lamps etc. :-*
-
Agreed the details really bring it to life.

Yes, it looks great! I might consider making an alternate slate roof, but nothing wrong with the original wriggly-tin version.
When I can afford it, I'll certainly get one - and the Mexican... err...Spanish church :D

I look at the work you've done, see you claim to be lazy, and I just weep.

Okay, so in an attempt (attempt being the operative word here) to take more professional photos of my minis I've been playing around with the lighting/camera and Photobucket a bit and have come up with the pictures below. I'm still not 100 per cent pleased with them - I had to brighten them, and they're rather too bright! - and will do some more tinkering over the next few days (a friend is also going to give me an old copy of Macromedia Fireworks, which will no doubt help things greatly!) to develop a formula with which I'm happy. Any advice in the department would be much appreciated. Anyway, on to the models:

This picture is actually unedited, other than being cropped and resized. I think it looks much better than the above! What do you think?
Also, who agrees that this model is based on Michael Caine's portrayal of Chief Inspector Abberline from 1988's Jack the Ripper? I only realised it after painting and varnishing, otherwise I'd have done him blonde!
-
I think the painting looks smoother and more natural on him, especially the skin, but I like the brighter background on the others. Maybe you could try that snazzy blue background that some of the others use. Either way there's absolutely nothing wrong with either painting or pictures :D
-
Fantastic. Those plaid coats look great.

I have several gangs made up from TVAG, Brigade Games and Westwind and they all look fine together.

So if you guys are playing Riots, what rules are you using? :P

Well personally I'm using these models as hired thugs in a Gothic Horror setting. So depending on the scenario they might be batting for Dracula, Frankenstein, Moriarty et cetera. Rules-wise I'm using Fear and Faith.
Anyway, on to the final picture (I promise)! I think I've finally got it right now!
