Title: Relief of Sandahar
Post by: Operator5 on 16 May 2011, 07:23:02 PM
At NJCon on Friday night, I took part in a British vs. Dervish game (run by one of the nicest gamers you could ever meet by the name of Allen Kaplan). I commanded the beleaguered defenders of Sandahar, awaiting supplies from a relief column (controlled by two other "commanders").  I took only a couple of pictures with the camera phone, but here they are.

This is the view from my end of the table. The relief column is all the way at the far left hand corner of the table. They never made it to the halfway point. I had 4 Dervish units and a cannon arrayed against my defenders with limited ammo (essentially only 6 turns of shooting for me). My goal was to hold until relieved.

Here's a close shot of some of my Brits manning the wall. They would all die to a man but they bought the rest of my forces precious time.

Finally, here is one of the final turns of the game. Two highlanders stand against a horde of Dervish. Behind them, the Sgt. Major and his remaining charge await the dervish horde. In the back, my armed civilians, naval Gardner Gun crew, and commander protect the female civilians in the building behind them.

In the end, I was able to beat off the attackers. The relief column never made it by the end of the game, but they inflicted heavy casualties on two forces of Dervish that attempted to ambush them. Since I held the line and broke the Dervish charge on my position, Sandohar was held.

Very nice table, Operator5! You should have made more photos! :)

What is you "table mat" made of, if I may ask?

The mat is just sand-colored felt with lots of "bits" stuck on it. Allen scatters the detrius across the mat, then shakes the excess off. Some bits get stuck in the fibers and remain where they are.
