After Matakishis inspiration I too wish to embark on a Hyborian project. Can anyone recommend me some Ape men miniatures in 28mm? They don't have to be completely Simian, as Howard describes them as not quite Ape, not quite man.
I have the D+D War apes, they're too Simian, and armored. I'm thinking buff Neanderthals...

Old AD&D Taers from Ral Partha are really nice...good luck finding them, however. I did a happy dance when I found a blister of them last year at a convention for cheap.

These are the Taers (masquerading here as beastmen of Opar)

There are these from Magister Militum:

Three sets of hunters, one of women and children. Lots of furs - maybe not what you're after for Hyboria.
Or these from Eureka Minis USA:

Quite ape-like, but not a very good range of poses.
Maybe these from Steve Barber:

Four sets of warriors, one of "civilians". Nice, but a bit "Raquel Welch" ;)
Copplestone's cavemen and women are very nice, but more Cimmerian than Neanderthal. None of the above are particularly "apeman" in appearance, but might just work for you.

Copplestone's Yetis?

Magister Militum do some trogs that might work.

I personally love these guys:

Game Mastery "Throne of the Gorilla King set".

Love the suggestions so far! I found these: Price is right, if they can be rebased.

Thank you! Solved a problem of mine too!

As always with MATAKISHI, this project is a PIECE OF BEAUTY, and I eagerly wait to see more of your work.

I really like those minis. Who makes them?
Thanks.

Oop Ral Partha dnd line unfortunately.

There is an alternative, although not cheap I'm afraid :(
Hasslefree do a set of 5 Orc heads, for £3.00, which are slightly ape-ish. You could plonk them on top of suitable torsoes and add some gorilla-style hair with green-stuff:

Perhaps they would be suitable, if you are happy to convert and have a fair bit of cash ;)
There are also these from Black Cat Bases:

Slightly cheaper at £2.00 for 4, more ape-like, but they seem a bit "non-aggressive" which may not fit with the figures you want.

Funny you should post those, as I was thinking how animated Mantics zombies and ghouls are and I was thinking if I could just come up with the right head I'd be half way there!

Damn! >:(
Well, thanks anyhow.
Best wishes.
