Title: My French Napoleonics 28mm
Post by: Engel on 18 May 2011, 02:45:11 PM
I thought it was time share with you some pictures of my French Napoleonic troops.
Some of the pictures are rather crappy, sorry for that.

Old guard (same unit different formation, thought I should point that out.)

Officer on horse

And the latest painted unit, 2nd Hussars

I use the Black Powder rules when I want to bash my friends British forces.
And in the basement I got to many unpainted and half painted French miniatures…
The miniatures are a mix of Perry miniature and Victrix. I prefer the Victrix as the look so much better and more detailed. Even thou there are more parts to glue I find it still worth it.

VERY ATTRACTIVE! Napoleonic gaming was my last fling at large scale game way back in my misspend youth...every one should misspend their youth; it makes your memories more interesting. That aside, you did a SPLENDID job capturing the flare & elegance of the Beasty. VERY WELL DONE!

really nice pieces!

i'm looking for a plastic set for a nice skirmish warband, so you suggest victrix?

I recently did the same thing and I also recommend Victrix. I know that the Perrys are universally beloved, but I find their historicals rather stiff and lacking in character. The Victrix figures have a lot more personality.

Thank you all.

I can only concur of what Heldrak just wrote.

There are a lot of more funny stuff in the Victrix boxes. So if you want to play a skirmish game, just get a Victrix box and you are set for life… (yeah right, that can’t happen in this hobby…)
Why some people seems to love Perrys more I don’t understand.

And as an extra picture I´ll give you a paint in progress picture of the old guards. Hope you can spot the thin haired veteran without his bearskin hat.

I also like the Victrix figs slightly more than the Perrys but i only buy Perrys.
A lot of my friends who have Victrix plastics are annoyed that fine details coupled with brittle Plastic result in beautiful Figures that you cant game with without bayonets or swords breaking off.
Every time they remove them from carefully packed boxes they find another bayonet missing.
Pity.

Its Victrix plastic British artillery box but with some spare French bodies instead. The arms are all “wrong” but it will look descent enough on the battlefield. None of my gaming body’s would mine that the cuffs are not historical correct.

Im not sure if I should use them in skirmish formation or not so I opted to single base them so I could field them as in formation or as a loose unit.

But now is the question on how I should proceed.
If I should look for a new fun special unit or if I should get me some more rank and file?

Warlord games should soon release their French plastic box, that could be a plan.
I have also thought about getting some allies. Maybe Westphalian troops, Polish lancers or some cool special guard unit like some Marmeluks or “Tartares lithuaniens de la Garde Impériale”

Im more than open for a suggestion here.

This weekend we had a blast and played another Black powder game.

We didn´t write a battle report but atleast much pictures of this historical event still exist.

Quote
During the napoleonic wars there was this battle unknown to most, a small army led by an extremely incompetent French general on his way to talavera took the wrong turn somewhere and ended up just outside Nöbele, Sweden. As it happened, a force of equally lost brittish had searched for about 14,3 months for a second way to India, ending up near Nöbele, Sweden. Naturally, the only sensible thing to do was to engage the other force.
Here ends the only remaining document of this epic battle, and thus the outcome is a mystery even today. What became of the lost armies? Who survived? What became of all that bacon? We will never know...

Here are a sneak peak of some of the historical evidence... (well its should be but photobucket seems to not show it... >:()

Bump... ;)

Warlord Games Frenchies.
Many more pictures on the link > http://kampgruppe-engel.blogspot.se/2013/01/french-line.html

I added some paint on top of the paper banner to make it more lifelike, in particular gold paint.
When I thought I was done with the unit I sprayed it with a varnish but this resulted in the wash got all smutched out and the details destroyed. I think it has something to do with the cold and the spraycan not mixed enough.
But with some new wash on the unit I think I saved it. It looked better before but its still good enough to game with.

It was some time now since I last painted some Napoleonic but here are a new unit.

33e Regiment d`infanterie
More pictures at: http://kampgruppe-engel.blogspot.se/2013/06/33e-regiment-dinfanterie.html (http://kampgruppe-engel.blogspot.se/2013/06/33e-regiment-dinfanterie.html)

I got some spare minatures from the Warlord frenchy box and with the addition of an command element from Victrix and some Hussar heads from Perrys I got a small unit in Black Powder terms.

When I found the picture reference for an unit dressed in white and purple I knew I "needed" one.
From the moment I first saw the Warlord box i thought that these could look sharp in white uniforms and black boots and I finnaly got around to create such an unit.

Rule wise maybe I should treat them as an small line or maybe even an veteran unit but with some bonus for movement, maybe the drilled special rule will be perfect.

Great looking army.

I just caught the thread so excuse me for bringing up stuff on the first page. I would put my vote in for skirmish/1:1 figs for the Perry's original Foundry line. Still available. Much character and pose variety, especially if you want figs in other than march attack. and some of the vignettes they did were terrific. And they are not the stiff poses of the current line(and that way on purpose I assume and understand why).

My friend Tobias and I fought a small Napoleonic battle of Black Powder last weekend.
A really nice game and with the result hanging on the last one or two stamina point of damage to decide the whole outcome of the game.

It felt really good to dust of my Frenchies and bring them to battle once more. Hope to have more of this.  :D
