Hi there,
a little help if anyone can? I'm looking for the colour of German tanks/trucks/artillery circa 1943, eastern front. Ideally in specific paint, Vallejo preferred. Thing is I'm colour blind to one degree or another - in that I can see colour perfectly well just that I can't name many of them. I can paint and do often, seeing tone and colour and knowing that a given four colour pots form a series for example (my wife sorts them into such an order). This is all the more so with historicals where I ask the wife whether English Uniform is green or brown, and get told 'brown, with green, bit of purple...' and so forth.
All aside then, such for 1943 - whereafter I'll snow 'em up.

In 1943, German vehicles were transitioning. Older vehicles would be gray (Vallejo Model Color German Grey), but anything produced after early 1943 was painted a color called dark yellow. (Dunkelgelb in German).
There is some disagreement among modelers today about what exactly that color looked like. Some think it was greenish, some think it was more of a gold-yellow color. Vallejo Model Color Dark Yellow 978 is a reasonable choice for this color.
That being said, Vallejo makes a lot of paints that are in the general vicinity of that color. See this article for more details, and specific paints:

Try Vallejo Canvas colour as a base coat for vehicles after 43 followed by Green Ochre dry brushed.

either my eyes are going (too) or that almost looks too dark (Canvas). Everything I see almost seems brighter.
I dunno, I'm still working out the kinks in my painting ;)
