Title: Romans, Friends, Citizens...
Post by: Bayushiseni on 03 June 2011, 11:39:18 AM
I want to start a miniatures Pulp project. I need advice on minis, books and scenery.

28mm.
Comparative sizes between minis do matter.
I want it to be between the wars.
Mainly African based – but it can "travel" to the middle-east, far-east, south america and strange islands.

I want heroes, colonial troops and indigenous.

I have a excel page ready for a list of manufacturers, minis and size comparing.

Thank you in advance for your helping expertise.

Check out the Sticky's at the top of this page, lots of basic information to the questions your asking there.

You can start out by looking at these manufacturers:

Pulp Figures (all)
Copplestone (most)
Artizan Designs - Thrilling Tales
Foundry - Darkest Africa
Brigade Games - Great War in Africa and Pulp

You can see a lot of these figures here and there on LAF.  You can use the search funtion and type in Africa and see a lot of threads.  You can also type in specific characters such as Tarzan into the search function and find some inspirational stuff.  Matakshi's Tarzan project is amazing. You can also search for specific painters and terrain builders such as Matakshi, Grimm, Prof. Witchheimer, the League of Extraordinary Kriegspielers and others, and find their remarkable Africa projects.  You can search the archived posts for size comparisons by using "size" in the search, or specific manufacturers' names.

Thank you for these wonderful informations.
I'm not considering Tarzan in my pulp idea - but a lot can be drawn from that universe.

Have you considered giving your Pulp interwar action an ancient backstory? If you get some figures done for Africa, many of the natives could be used in a "flashback" to an expedition into Africa in the 1500's or 1600's, using Foundry El Dorado packs (as in the Werner Hertzog movie Aguirre: Wrath of God) or some Thiry Years War, English Civil War, or swashbuckling Three Musketeers types. If a secret diary of a survivor is found telling of magnificent hidden things in the Heart of Africa, that could induce your interwar Pulp adventurers to make the trip.

You might also want to crawl through the Colonial forum. There's so much there for anything related to Africa. Plynkes' threads in particular are a gold mine of info on particular African tribes.  And colonial Africa stuff is just generally inspirational, as with this thread:
