I have been prepping for some post apocalyptic gaming due to get played over the next few months. As well as the relevant toy soldiers that I have been putting together and painting, I have also been preparing some simple but hopefully fun and practical terrain.
One of the main terrain elements is a shanty town with some vaguely wild west pretensions (think Judge Dredd Cursed Earth Township). "Standard Falls" is made from six Pardulon shacks and six simple scratch built buildings plus barriers and crates and the like.

I recorded progress as I went and will be putting up photos of the WIP on my blog (http://sho3box.wordpress.com/2011/06/04/standard-falls-shanty-town-pt1/) with a synopsis going up here.
At the time of writing most of the town is finished so the coverage of the WIP should all be over and done with within a week or two, in case any of you are interested.
Thanks for looking :)

Like that the locals have shot up the sign. And with some pretty large calibre rounds too!

lol
Aaah, the telltale signature of a fully automatic Hechler and Wesson MKIII nanorifle (or the most theatrically oversized drill bit that I thought that I could get away with...).

Cool :) It wont take long, just a handful of posts over the next couple of weeks.

Really nice scrap building, and if it's all painted as well as that sign, this is going to be an amazing board.

I am particularly pleased with how the sign came out alright: evocative and a bit cheesy.
The rest of the project is painted to a decent enough tabletop standard. Its not nearly as nice as some of the works of art that show up around here from time to time, but it is practical and fun.

I got the lot base coated, drybrushed, detailed(ish), washed and then detailed a little more.

More photos and details are on my blog (http://sho3box.wordpress.com/2011/06/08/standard-falls-shanty-town-pt2/).
The next step is a few finishing touches, plus some shots of the terrain in situ and hopefully in use in games that I have planned for the weekend. Photos should be up in a few days.
Thanks for looking. Comments and criticisms all welcome of course.

This is a very nice project and I normally dont go to the myriad of blogs but your stuff is rather interesting, and I am desperatly hoping to be able to make something like it one day... but alas, we have two fantasy tables to finish (wich I dont consider to be a chore or something, I actually are enjoying it immensly) not to mention a sort of tintin inspired project. But hope never dies, so perhaps in the future :D

very nice indeed, more close ups please!
-
Yes, looks very inspirational, more close-ups would be great.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I am currently cropping and formatting some close up shots of the finished shacks and other elements, plus a couple of dodgy shots of the terrain pieces in situ with some of my slightly goofy post-apocalyptic fort (http://sho3box.wordpress.com/2011/05/04/fort-grayskull-part-6/) elements. They will be going up over the next couple of days.
Hopefully I will get some game-in-progress shots this weekend too.
In the meantime I increased the size of the shots in the update post above.
Thanks for looking!

Really cool!

I have finished this first stage of my PA shanty build. Accordingly I am posting the finished shots in a new post in the Future Wars (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=30155.msg360586#msg360586)section.
I have further plans for Standard Falls, but I dont know when I will get around to my next terrain building session.
When I do I will post further WIPs here.
Thanks for looking :)
