Hi,
I'm looking for 28mm models that can represent mounted civilians (armed or not armed) in victorian Europe. I've found the Foundry mounted police, several hunting chaps on foot and a few Old West mounted cowboys that probably can work with the right paint job, but no luck otherwise. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Hmm, not an easy one to find figures for.
Old Glory have some mounted Figures in their Cowboy Wars range entitled European Hunting Party. There are several there that might work for you.
Otherwise your only option is to do some converting. :?

How is the Old Glory western line scale-wise? The same as old foundry models?

They will fit in fine with most ranges and should be fine with old Foundry. They are by the same designer of the Westwind Gothic Horror figures.

One of my favourites for "mounted 19th century civilian" is to convert General Picton figures. He can be found with top hat and umbrella in several ranges. Here is the Front Rank version. I replaced his umbrella with a pistol in my version (I will upload a photo when I get the chance):

What a lovely figure. He'd be great for the later Victorian era, despite being well out of date ;D
Are there no civilian figures in the many ACW ranges which might work with minimal conversion?
I would have thought it would be fairly easy to convert any rider wearing suitable trousers or breeches and knee-length boots, by chopping off at the waist and adding a Victorian torso. Probably expensive though...... :(

Possibly a little too late period-wise, but have you looked at Riever Casting's VBCW mounted civilians?

Thanks, a lot of good suggestions. I've ordered a couple of Cowboy Wars hunting parties, as well as the Victrix version of Picton. I'm no hobby expert, but I'll post up a few pictures whenever I've painted them up.

Ironclad Minis' Sherlock Holmes isn't too far out in terms of clothing etc. Depends on comparative figure sizes.

I guess it might be a bit late in the period but Black Tree Designs have mounted Boer War fighter in their Zulu range- Might fit the bill, if your not in a hurry.... ::)

It might be worth taking a look at some of the Foundry Border Raiders, probably somewhere in their old west range, some of them would easily fit in with a more European look, others would need a little more work.
Actually, I just checked, and I eventually found them listed as "Cowboys" ???, although most of them appear to have been rationalised out of the range, some of those that remain may be of use:
