Does anyone know where to find the autumn leafs in various shades suitable for 1/64 (S-scale)?
thanks!

By chance I just received an order from the Michigan Toy Soldier Company last night that included brown leaves from Joefix studios. They are obviously some sort of seed husk, but from a distance look like leaves. They aren't cheap though! http://www.joefix-studio.be/producten.asp?groep=100 (http://www.joefix-studio.be/producten.asp?groep=100)

yes, something like that was my first idea, too! In case You did not know - the upper left picture shows simply some birches seeds (actually no seeds, but no one would recognize the correct botanical word ("Spelzen" in German) anyway ^^). You should find them in (late) spring allover under birch trees. A little bit tricky to seperate these spelzy-things from the real seeds, but maybe easier to come by quick.
and by the way
meanwhile many producers of model railways (just know some German companies) do have some really good-looking stuff too. Corn, tomatos, flowers, forest, mushrooms. Some have nice leaves according to the plant. Not really cheap, though, but for some non-mass-purposes maybe just right.
best wishes

I bought some similar product here (http://www.pk-pro.de/index.php?page=categorie&cat=32) a while ago. The price was quite acceptable for a bit of base/terrain decoration. Scooping and dyeing your own may start to make sense if you need huge piles.
Equivalent stuff can be bought in multiple places. That's just one option I happened to use while I was primarily after their bases.
For serious showcase stuff, you can find etched brass here and there. Plenty of delicate designs in various shapes, but more pricey and need work, including painting.

I'm sure what I got was birch spelt/husk now that you mention it. I'll be searching my neighborhood for a birch tree and anything else that might be suitable. I want to rebase all of my French and Indian War figures and I don't want to go bankrupt!

Here is an article from Reaper Miniatures about making leaf litter at home.

Thanks for that link. I've seen similar seed pods in the neighborhood, I'll have to investigate further.

I have a couple of Birch trees at the bottom of the garden and every year I think about harvesting them. So far I do have a plastic cup full, but hardly ever use them.

I use this. They look a bit like scale maple leaves or ivy. How much do you need? I can send you a bag of un-sifted seeds. They respond well to tinting with inks or water based stains, for example, if you soak them first in boiling hot water for a mo.

Thanks guys. :)
Awesome pics Hammers. Is that the leaving of Rivendell?
-
Aye.
-
Are you sure that's what "leaving" means?
-
You know, Dolmot, I am embarrassed, I did not at first get that joke... :)
-
there people who leave rivendel right?
-
antenocitis have them too... very well priced as well.
-
Well priced... and out of stock....
Does anyone know of a supplier of such leaves AND grass tufts where it is actually possible to order both at once, please?
We have a lot of birches in the garden, but high grass, and a creek with some large-leafed plants (burdocks, according to google translate) makes it a bit difficult to search the ground for spelt....
Or would anyone living not too far from me be able/willing to share an order of either, when they are available...?
-
I'll send you a small bag of unsifted stuff to, Argo, if you PM me your address.

might be an option to search for places, where the things have been driven by the wind, not just direktly under the tree ... but anyway ... it is nearly summer (or is it already?) so it is tricky to finde these, cause the will come in masses in spring.
Next spring, when knowing what to look for and having a NEED to do so ... You will see yourself wading in these knee-deep lol

Go to a craft store. Look at the hole punches. Find one that has a leaf pattern. Then go look at paper, the thiner the better. find some in yellows, browns, reds & orange. If you are lucky you will find some verigated in these colors. Then just punch away. All the leaves you will ever need fairly cheap.

I should have a little talk with the neighbour's monster birch. Hammers, when is a good time to harvest? Is it too late?
-
Probably. April-May is the time as I recall.

Allright... I'm sure I won't finish my LPL5 round 10 entry until next year anyways. Some of those seed pods would look right at place around Amon Hen.
