Hi,
My local club is very much in fantasy (WH battle, Mordheim...) and I had the idea to build some modular sceneries : caves, sewers, etc... to go UNDER our tabletop (in reality beside...).
Each module is 30x30 cm. So I have to build at least 16 modules (1.20 x 1.20 m) may be more...
Here are the first four of them. The fifth one is uneder way...
1st module : cavern

I used some Hirst Arts molds.. (fieldstone molds).
Well, that's all for today. I'll post the next one as soon as possible.
Jacques.

Nice! Simple without looking simplistic, if that makes sense - all the detail in the right places but not in the way of the game.
Will have to mentally file this away for eventual inspiration for cave/sewer/underground scenery of my own!
Does the water come out of the sewer so you can have a dry sewer? Wasn't sure if the dry sewer was a work-in-progress photo or a finished photo.
-
Hello Wirelizard,
No, (sob ! I haven't thought at that possibility !) it's a "fixed" water ! More module of sewers will be done later with runways along the tunnel.
Jacques
-
wow...this is really awesome. Brilliant work !
Not only useful for a fantasy Dungeon but also a useful idea for a Pulp Gangster or Horror Scenario. Thank you !
-
Now that is great. I shall copy some of this for an own project in the future.
Hope to see more of it.
Thank you!
-
Excellent work.
-
great things to see! like that very much. All the more, because I always wanted to start the likes my own for years and years!
Thanks for this inspiration!
best wishes
Drachenklinge
-
Very nice. I really dislike square, 4 way caves. It's just an unnatural layout for caves etc. That said, you've done a good job of hiding it.
-
Inspiring stuff :)
-
Mighty wonderful, that is!
-
I really like that. I can't wait to see more! :-*
-
Very very nice indeed! great inspiration and well finished.
-
I concur with the rest, awesome work! :-*
-
Stunning job, thanks for sharing!
-
Hey, jacques! Your FINE pieces look just as OH-SO-COOL over here as they do on T.B.M.F.. GREAT WORK!
AND WELCOME ABOARD L.A.F.!
-
Hi Deafnala ! My... you're everywhere ! ;)
You'll see (I hope soon) here at L.A.F. my other WIP (Old West).
I'm also on Hirst arts (other stuff...) http://hirstarts.yuku.com/topic/5367/First-build
See you later !
Jacques
-
So very cool, great job!! What did you use for the water? It looks like some kind of clear plasticard...

I'm that Bad Penny they talk about. I've always been disappointed that no matter where I go; there I am.
I REALLY enjoy seeing your work; SO I'm looking forward to all the new goodies.
-
Hi Chaos Wolf,
My water is plexiglass (organic glass) made to protect drawings or photos or lithographies when you put them on a wall.
I find this in an Artist shop (half a square meter for about 10€).
Jacques
-
That is really great! so many uses and it looks easy to store. What more could you want from terrain.
-
cool! very cool! :)
-
Very impressive! :-*
You don't see a lot of underground terrain, so this makes a special treat...!
-
ARGHHH!!!!
Why did you post this?
Now I will have to hit myself over the head repeatedly until I forget I have seen it!
It is brilliant, and the possibilities are endless.
I love the way you have made it modular with out looking like a cheap grid-like structure.
Must forget. Ouch!
Must forget. Ouch!
Must forget........................................................
-
AWESOME and VERY INSPIRING!
Thank you very much for sharing! :)
-
Really cool stuff!
-
that is F-----G wow!!! i love that, please know that i am so using that style.heres hoping mine look half as good.
-
Great stuff :-* :-* :-*
The water(???) in the sewer is inspired :-* :-* :-*
-
Cracking stuff! Can't wait to see how this progresses!
-
Inspirational! :-* :-*
Now, to steal the idea wholesale for my next game...underside of a town for a pirate game...
-
Really good - I must go back to the beginning and look at it again.
Jacques, where in France are you?
Doug
-
I'll just add my little voice of praise! Great work!
-
Nice work
Where is you lucky club?

Too far from me! Do you go to any shows?
-
Those are brilliant - I've always wanted to do a sewer system for my gangster buildings!
Now I have to give it some serious thought!
-
Hi,
Thank you very much for your appraisal.
Here are the fifth module :

-
these are stunning! i love the sewers. makes me want to make more moduels for my dungeon.
-
Beautiful modelling and painting. I'd love to play a game on that :D
-
These are great! Really makes me want to do something similar.
-
Fantastic looking sewers and caves. Are you planning to do any more "fixed" areas, such as a larger room?
-
Hello,
@lasgunpacker : I'm planning to make at least 16 modules. But always (for the moment !) 30 x 30cm. The seventh will be a sewer module...
@thebinmann : no, I don't go to any show
I'll not have time enough to paint my sixth module before my holidays... so I post today only one photo (WIP)

Hello,
Hollidays are gone.... :(

Bye.
Jacques

:o :o
Man these are VERY cool...and the painting is great too.
Cheers,
Blue
-
Great looking terrain, I bet its fun to play on!
-
Very incredible stuff... i'm gonna have to steal it for 15mm Call of Cthulhu stuff...
-
Great board!
-
A great new piece for the collection. As has been said before it must be really cool to play on.
-
Very nice, indeed!
And if you want the caves/sewers to go actually UNDER the table, try this:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=6379.0
I have a stalled project for a desert/egypt pulp game where the antagonists search for a buried temple, that I intend to lay out beneath the top surface with the ground level board.
This elevated bord is, of course, mainly intended for smaller games, but with more legs, or maybe some stabilizers, it can be made in larger sizes, too.
-
Thank Argonor, good idea.
I'll probably have a try...
Jacques
-
Hello,
The seventh module is done.
Here are the pics :

And thus, all my modules together :

The next one is under way...
Bye,
Jacques
-
This is just great. Such an inspiration. Thanks for sharing these photos. The group shots really show how impressive this project is. Can't wait to see the next batch.
-
I really like all the colors you used painting this. It breaks up the boring, mono, stone color nicely.
-
Top stuff, really inspiring!
-
:-* Groovey!
-
This thread has got me wondering if a similar setup could be built for Necromunda- more of a 'warren' feel than the walkway gantries filling a large open space. I have about 15 HA molds myself.
Inspiring build, thanks again for showing this.
-
What a great project.
I love it, Jacques!
-
Fantastic stuff all round :-* 8)
I think my favorite is the sewer board 8) 8) Are there going to be more sewers (I didn't read all the postas as I've only just come across the thread and it's nearly dinner time lol )?
I like the idea of doing something similar for Necromunda :)
Keep it coming :D
cheers
James
-
Hey,
Thank you very much for your kind comments.
@jimbibbly : yes, in fact the next module will be a strait sewer module... (the sewer module are a little more difficult and more time consuming to do...)
For Necromunda, I think it will be easy to make more masonery tunnel, service areas and engine room floors. Make some pipelines, barrels, crates, steel door and wall steel panels... A more futuristic look !
@Dr Mathias : HA molds are very usefull and you can make nearly all you can imagine, but sometimes the results are (very) heavy lol
See you soon
Jacques
-
Great concept - very nice execution!
:-* :o

AH CRUDE!!!
Another idea that I need to steal....these are brilliant.
Pete
-
These are nothing short of amazing! :o
-
Brilliant, look just brilliant.
-
Threads like these make lead-adventure great! Has anyone proposed a best-of forum here (e.g. http://conceptart.org/ has one)? I I nominate jacques's here.
-
Best of Forum?
Far too many contenders! Where would we start? So many things here just are cosmically good.
I think he meant 'best forum', no 'of'. Most things here outmatch that on most other forums.
-
No, best of forum, ie the best of the best stuff, and actually we sort of do have them, every now and then a topic will contain so much good stuff that it gets a sticky. Like the riverboat and more recently the Zeppelin on the workbench forum.
-

I now it was meant to be a joke, however jokes often don't translate well to text.
-
Absolutely no problem Dijit - a multi-national forum speaking in english is bound to throw up confusions and 'mistranslations'.
You know actually that's what the smiley was invented for :) to indicate something is a joke as it sometimes translates badly over the internet. But yea, no harm done, don't worry.
-
Oh wow! I live and learn.
me too
-
Can't believe that I've missed this thread before, that is one amazing table you are making. Truly inspirational.
-
Hi to all,
Your kind words are much appreciated... ;D Thank you.
But, let's see what happened since my last post..
I began to construct my straight sewer and... then... I had a new idea ???
So, of course, I began to test this new idea... I tested, tested and, finally, here is the result !
An underground chapel :
First, a top view:
But let's enter by the right side on the precedent view :
A side sub-chapel (?) :
But let's go to the altar :
Nothing interesting here...
May be the other side...
But... what's that...
And from the other side...
A secret door...
And the last side of module is a dead end :
But, I promise, the next one will be (it must be !) my straight sewer module...
See you next time. C&C welcome as usual ;)
Jacques

:o :o :o :o :o
This project just gets better and better, Jacques!
It is all the little details that bring it to life.
Loving the thread, and will be watching avidly....
-
That´s awesome. Reminds me of the old D&D-games we used to play when we where kids. :)
-
INCREDIBLE...it's just as Oh-So-Cool over here as it is at Tom's. WONDERFUL WORK!
-
Yep, it's getting better and beter... :o
I liked vey much the chapel, it sounds like ancient and forbidden cults for me...
And if my eyes don't fail me, the old painting at the altar is an image of Neferata, the lahmia vampire queen:http://www.bunkern.dk/catalog/images/P2180058.JPG

(well, actually I spent more and more time in Bathoryburg, the city formerly known as Marienburg in some circles...)

Looks fantastic. Could be used for some many things. After just starting our annual bloodbowl tournament at our club I'm thinking Dungeon Bowl!
-
Incredible. :-*
Nice storyline to.
Now I want you to saw an troll i half and magnetise each halve so it can swim in the sewers. ;)
-
Truly, truly awesome work. All the little details you've bothered to add really bring the sections to life.
-
Very nice. Great attention to detail. I especially like the horse skeleton.
-
I just like watching Little Ratnik run around the sewers. :)
Really cool builds! I look forward to seeing more!
-
More great stuff!
I look forward to seeing each piece as it is made.
I will be looking back on this thread in the future for inspiration. Great work! :-*
I will have to do something similar myself one day. But that is way in the future, I cannot keep up with all my current projects as it is!
Cant wait to see what you come up with next......
-
Is the 'water' removable? 8)
-
Hey,
Thanks to all for your nice comments.
The next one will be... Well, I don't know ! Shall have to think on... ;)
@Argonor : No :(, the water is fixed (plexiglass) between two rows of stone on each side...
Bye,
Jacques
-
Hello,
It has been a long time without news... Sorry.
I changed housing and it wasn't easy to continue my hobby...
but I managed to have some little space and had began a new table (old west one) you will see it as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, a long time due photo of all my dungeon's modules together :
Hope to have some C&C and ... new modules are in WIP ...
Bye,
Jacques
-
Glad to see more of your work.
This project just gets better and better and is a great source of inspiration.
Thanks for sharing.
-
It looks fantastic all together!
:-*
This is obviously not the end of the project, though, is it? ;)
Looking forward to seeing your OW town.
;D
-
<music> This the end, my only friend, the end... <music>
NO ! We need at least 16 modules !
So, I'll continue.... :) But I must finish my first half OW table before ! Photos in 7-10 days...
Jacques
-
Really cool ! I'd loooooove to play on that table :o
-
Mightily impressive!
-
Really enjoyed following Ratnik through the maze.
-
Wow, what a wonderful setup. Your players are lucky.
Sorry for dredging this up from the depths of LAF...I wasn't sure of the protocol for necro-topics, but this was just too cool. I couldn't let it languish in the archives! New players need to see this!
-

Thanks for bumping this, it's great! I feel like I'll never have the time to see all the creativity on this forum :'(
Fantastic job all around, I love the modular nature!

-
Yes, good exhumation, this has been a joy to read. Where is it now though? Did the other 7 tiles ever get built?
-
Very inspirational thread - would also love to see the remainder.
-
Hey,
I gave them to a club in the center of France. The reminders were essentialy caves ones.
One day, when I'll go there, I'll take some photos.
I didn't took any from the others modules cause I wasn't very happy with them...
Jacques
-
Lucky club. So Jacques - what wonderful project are you working on now?
-

Very lucky indeed!
:o
That is a seriously generous gesture, especially so as it seems that you dont even get to use them very often.
Hats off to you, sir.

I don´t know how i could have missed this thread! Your dungeon tiles look awesome! :o
-
This is still one of my favorite projects ever. It's just perfect!
-
Hi to all,
Yesterday, I was cleaning my hard drive when I found some photos I hadn't post before...
So they are :
Ratnik is always searching for some loots and one day... "Oh no, the path is blocked...I must find another way..."

I've just found this thread for the first time. Eight delicious pages. Just the thing after a typical Monday!

Allways fun to read these sort of comics. A short story told by a miniature and a piece of terrain. Great work.
-
Thank for all of you. Always a pleasure to have (positive) feedback.
@Mason : I think I'll go to continue some modules... I have NEW ideas... :D not very easy but surely funy...

If I didn't own a small country's worth of dwarven forge materials I'd probably invest in a project like this for a dungeon game. I love it all. I've played on a similar style board (not quite this level of brilliance though!) and it's very user friendly!
Great stuff, keep it up.

So good

I still hope Jacques has more to modules to show us.

;D That is definately one of the best module dungeons i have seen. Must be great to play on.
Will Ratnik ever find his way out of there. He has been in since June 2011!!!

Bump !
I still hope Jacques has more to modules to show us.
No posts on the thread for two and a half years? That's not a bump. That's Threadnomancy.
Worth it, though...
