Title: Best Prussians/Germans without baggage...?
Post by: Dewbakuk on 23 June 2011, 05:59:39 PM
I want some troops in German/Prussian uniforms but without backpacks, bedrolls etc. The only ones I can think of are Seebatallion types that have too much webbing for my taste. Any suggestions?

Not Tiger miniatures or Old Glory.

Have you looked at the Renegade WW1 Germans, some of them have no packs etc by the look of the photos on the website :?

Or Brigade Games WW1 East African Germans in sun hats?

Otherwise you are buggered, as all the FPW style Prussians that I have seen have a blanket roll. lol

I'll go take a look.

Blankets are annoying and look stupid.

Some have just waist belts, some have full pack and some have blanket rolls. All mixed together in the packs if memory serves, unfortunately for Dewbakuk. They also all have 1909 leather equipment, though that is something easily ignorable by all except the most fastidious button-counters among us.

Maybe someone would share/split a pack with him?

*cough* Plynkes *cough*  ;)

I've just reclaimed the laptop from my wife so I'll go take a look at the site. These will be for Order of Malta Serjeants-At-Arms, so I should be able to ignore the leather. Assuming I can get the figures I'd want. Off to take a gander, cheers!

Hmm, not many figures that are particularly usable. I was going to do head swaps anyway but too many packs etc.

Right, need to think of another idea as this one doesn't seem practical.  :(

Brigade does three packs of Germans in greatcoats and pickelhaube that look to be "ohne rucksack"

Which range are they in Skrap? Hadn't considered greatcoats...

They are part of Brigade games WW1 line for Europe. I believe they are sculpted by Mike Owen and they have me thinking about totally revamping my Prussians.

Found them under Western Front. Brigade's WW1 range is good but it's in 4 distinct sections which can make finding a pack difficult. I'll have a think about those, cheers.

also try to check the exHelion miniatures now marketed by NorthStar.
They are nice miniatures!

I am not sure whether all of them have backpacks etc.

They have the dreaded blanket roll Dewbakuk does not want. ::)

Hi
I have some dollies from my 1866 Austro/Prussian range, that are without equipement
if you contact me at
barrycarter70@hotmail.com
we can have a chat about what you want and possibly it could be a new range for me
the figures are the old..(old,old) Helion ...figures, but I designed them and now have the range back

Barry, I wouldn't be surprised if you hd a fair few customers for these figures. Just like Dewbakuk I crave Prussians without the layers of campaign equipment.

I'm, personally, not too fiddly about equipment, but I'm fairly certain I heard similar complaints on TMP, and I don't think they were Dew or Thunder.

Of course, they sniff rather loudly over there, but mostly good eggs. ;->=

Hello gentlemen
I had a dig through my junk last night and came across some of the dollies I mentioned.
I will get them moulded up and in the meantime, perhaps we can discuss what you would like to see in VSF Prussians...........
At the moment they are basically in trousers and boots (I hope thats not too overdressed)
I will make sure that they have P'haubs before they go off to the mould makers.
It will take a few weeks before the dollies get back so please give some thought to things like weapons, breathing apperatus etc and let me know what you think.
I will try to arrange to get some pictures posted as the project moves along.
I have some thoughts about support vehicles and tanks as well as artillery, but I will concentrate on the infantry first
Regards
Barry

Good to hear from you Dave....look forward to a game or two sometime
unfortunately...I wont be able to get to Bovvy......lets hope this is not the last show there, as they keep saying it will be.(every year!) how about Colours?perhaps the 3 of us could get together there for a beer and a chat.........there may even be a VSF game to watch
Are you guys using your own rules?.......I am seriously looking at the GASLIGHT rules compendium.

Isaanamini,

I'm greatly interested in this venture, please keep the updates coming.  This seems a great niche that needs to be filled.  Count me in for a few when they are ready.  My only request is for some nameless drones to fight for the Empire, rather than a load of personalities.  Personalities are fine to, but good drones are hard to come by.

Keep up the great work!
