Title: Brigade's New Ottomans as Arab Proxies
Post by: Bravo Six on 02 July 2011, 09:59:32 PM
I was really blown away by the newest Ottoman Turk pics over at Brigade Games and wondered if these packs would be acceptable stand-ins for Arab Bandit types in an Egyptian pulp game?

Thoughts?

I have these and plan on using them for a lot of different eras.

I reckon they're fit in from Morrocco east to northern India as Tuareg, Arabs, Bedouin, Pashtun, etc.

I plan on using them as Arabs in Pulp games and slavers in Heart of Africa games. Probably even as Afghanis in Back of Beyond type games.

Great looking minis!

Tuareg are very strict about covering the face, for men only.  These minis won't work for them.

That must make eating and drinking quite strained.

Luckily these are 28mm high toys so don't fuss as much as the real thing...  ::)

Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like lots of us had the same idea. I know with pulp gaming it allows for loose interpretation of truly historical minis. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't too far off the mark.  ;D

I can see using these figures as east Africans. Also NWF tribesmen. And even early Madists.

Go for it...!  Our historical sources -- pulp fiction and movies -- were not always known for their historical accuracy.  We're going for the effect, and these figs have lots of character and would give the right feel.

I wonder how they would go with similar figures from Foundry and Blazeaway... my experience is that Brigade are a little smaller than most manufacturers out there.

Will that stop me from adding them to my growing horde? No. Nice find!

Thanks guys. And Christian, yes these were a pleasant find and I hope they stack up size wise with Pulp Figures and Copplestone.

These are Paul Hicks sculpts, no? Can anyone confirm or deny? Mr Hicks?

I'm sure they are Mr Hicks' work.
Gorgeous.
Likely to be at the smaller end of the 28mm range, as most of Paul's work is 'true' 28mm rather than heroic scale.

Galland was looking for Barbary corsairs the other day. These would be perfect, would they?

The Captain is correct. These are Paul's work. Though I am not sure I would call them "true 28". They are not the 32mm and up that other companies call 28mm but I think they run about 28mm to the eye.

Ah well... I guess the bases can always be "fudged" to make that less noticeable. Certainly worth making these "work", they're splendid.

I agree with ErikB, don't use them for Tauregs.  The face veil for males is a big thing and the Tauregs are a unique culture.  Their headress is realy not right Bedouins either.

I've got loads of Pulp Figures, other Brigade sculpts (although not these Arabs) and some Copplestone, and they generally go perfectly together. Mind you, Brigade uses more than one sculptor, and some of Copplestone's stuff (the damn Brits!) is out of line, but generally you should be fine. As you said, shim the bases if it's really an issue of them being short.

I abandoned the Copplestone Giants aka Brits in Tropical Kit for that reason Wirelizard. Way TOO much of a size difference for my liking. Apparently Mark told someone once that he did those without his glasses on and didn't realize how big they actually were until done.  lol
