Title: Cyril the bear
Post by: Admiral Benbow on 03 July 2011, 08:19:49 PM
Cyril, the famous dancing bear, attraction of every carnival near and far, ...

was attacked at the Bruegelburg market yesterday by a ferocious beast handled by one of the King's rangers.

Well, "handled" was not the correct term, as this ranger was barely able to hold back that mad dog at all.

Luckily, Cyril was not that impressed ...!

 :D

Thanks to the generous Svennn I was able to create this little vignette for my medieval collection. The splitted bases will enable me to use Cyril in other settings or games (with a dog handler from napoleonic times, for example).
Ranger from the Mortheim plastics, dog is an old Grenadier one - fantastic miniature. The most fiddly part was to attach the tiny chain and keep it straight without damaging the painted minis ... Everything else - just pure fun! The pics are a bit yellowish, sorry for that, didn't take my time.

Brilliant work Admiral B. How did you fix the chain? Superglue to hold the links? I have tried that before with limited sucess and fooged paint work. :(

Great to see him put to excellant use.  The drum is a lovely touch and the split base is inspired not to mention the delightful painting.

Wonderful! I've been after one of those bears for some time now, but I'm glad you got this one before I knew Svennn had it, it looks excellent!  :-*

Brilliant work Admiral B. How did you fix the chain? Superglue to hold the links? I have tried that before with limited sucess and fooged paint work. :(

Unfortunately, I'm allergic against superglue, so everything has to be glued with two part epoxy. For the chain I used tiny clamps from 0.4 mm silver wire to get the chain connected. The trick to get it straight was to first fix one mini to the base, let it cure, attach the chain to both minis and only after that glue the second mini to the base, holding it straight while the glue is curing. Sounds easy, but is a bit tricky ...

Thanks all for your nice comments!

That is an awesome paint job and diorama. I have that bear somewhere with the attached Dwarven King's Court. I doubt I could do it any where near the justice you have done it. Fantastic work.

Oh, excellent.  Fun stuff.

You're right about that dog - excellent figure.  Anyone know of a source to get one today?
