Title: Best Japanese 28s?
Post by: majorsmith on 12 July 2011, 01:58:54 PM
Looking at doing skirmish level japanese vs commonwealth infantry most probably Indian, would TAG go well with artisan? Or are brigade games better? I steer clear of warlord as I'm not keen on the newer bolt action stuff

I would say TAG is the best choice, I find the level of detail being better than on the Brigade ones and the fox hole TAG are just irresistable!

I think the sculpting is a bit better on Brigade, but TAG and Brigade are both great choices.

Brigade Games/Company B (Joint adventure) without a shadow of a doubt! The Assault group Japanese are mssing their cross straps on their puttees which to me is a disappointment. However, saying that, there are some of the Assault group that I would include in with my Brigade Games, namely their officers.

Brigade Games/Company B Japanese have been well thought out in relation to equipment for personnel within a section and platoon. Heavy weapons are included especially when Lon can find the mould with the Japanese heavy mortars! Are you reading this Lon!

Expect more to come from Brigade Games/Company B in the future.

Battle Honours also offer some nice miniatures within their range which I've used.

I'm reserving my judgement on the Warlord Japanese until the full range is out. Howver, I'm unimpressed from what I've seen sofar!

Major Smith, just check my web-site on my Japanese collection sofar.

Cheers,

Helen

I agree - I don't know who's sculpting their new stuff, but it's NO match for the older BAM figs I have which is a BIG disappointment! I don't like the alterations they have done to some of the older figs either - If it ain't broke don't fix it!

I have a mixture of Brigade (Paul Hicks sculpts) and TAG; you need to mix both lines to get enough variety. Armour is Co. B.

Check out White Knight's thread about his WWW2 Japanese, majorsmith. There'll be some useful info about mini ranges in there, plus his conversions and paint jobs are stunning!

Talk about timing.

As Helen knows Bruce (CompanyB) and I were drawing up secret plans the other day for expansion of the range.

The TAG sculpts are certainly very nice.

Our range is quite complete as it stands today (save for the heavy mortar which I will get out soon.) We designed the packs to allow easy creation of squads and platoons.

That said, we are expanding the range and we think the planned items will be popular as well. Expect additions starting in the Fall if all goes as scheduled.

And of course we carry all the CompanyB vehicles and terrain to complement the miniatures.

Brigade all the way, there's far too many prone figures in the TAG range.
However the Chindits (if you go that route) from TAG are superb. (sculpted by the ever excellent Richard Ansell)

Hi Guys,

It would be remiss of me if I didn't ask the folks here if they wish to submit here on this thread any suggestions for the US Marines and Japanese that are currently not available from Brigade Games. Please note for commercial purposes, it's only ideas that could fulfil the range to some what completness. It would be nice to entertain all suggestions, but selling them is another issue.

Thanks guys. I'm not submitting my list until Tueday.

Cheers,

Helen

You could always ask Andy to change the prone miniatures in the pack for a standing or kneeling miniature. I'm sure Andy is quite flexible when it comes to product.

Just a thought,
