Hi,
my flypaper mind struck again, and I decided to put the ironclad project on the figurative backburner for the time being and instead do some retro sci-fi again. However, in contrast to my previous "Perry Comet, Star Ranger" venture (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=4227.0), this time I decided to go with a more "1930s Serial" or "pulp scifi" vibe - more Flash Gordon than Nuclear Age (we still get atomic furnaces, but more art-deco).
I ordered a small handful of Killer B figures recently and started out with a Deathbot yesterday. It stands about 65mm/2.5in high and is based on a 40mm washer (figures will be based on 2p coins as compared to the hex bases of the previous project).

At the moment, I'm aiming to build a small "space nazi" commando (aka kill squads of Emperor Zing of Zongo). Don't know how quickly I'll get to doing some good guys and where it will take me, but small teams of nicely painted figures never hurt anyone. :)

That's lovely. 8)

Hehehehehe, good idea lol
You should also add some deathball artillery from Armorcast :)
-
That's just cool as heck.
-
WOW that is stunning work Chris :-* :-* :-*

Fabulous work. Have you settled on a set of rules?

Not really sure about that part. I'll probably use either .45 Adventure's scifi set (Fantastic Worlds, wasn't it?), or adapt Legends of the Old West. Depends on how big I want games to be and who I'll be playing it with, but in this case, I don't really want to go beyond 20 figures per side, maximum.

Awesome job there.!
-
That is a lot of fun!
-
Fantastic! I love the photoshopped poster.

Looks like a very penetrating robot, is it a male by any chance?

I thought the same thing when i first saw it lol

And, it has ben-wa arms and legs.

Jeez, get your minds out of the gutter and scamper off to Frothers. They appreciate this level of humour over there, so I've been told. ;)
Note that the robot sports a belt buckle of doom. The chest could obviously not be used to mount the gun as it had to sport an operating panel thingy. Sheesh, it's like you've never seen any scifi in the good old days before Star Wars.

Hi all,
over the weekend, I built an armoured skiff loosely based on a Flash Gordon page I saw in a book on Scifi comics, as well as AFV design aesthetics of the 1930s (slab sides, some curves to make it look more futuristic, many disjointed guns).

For lack of a better human-sized figure, a Foundry Valkyrie poses as the Queen of Frigia:

I am not entirely finished with it, though. I'm not quite sure the coils on the hull guns aren't too big, and am considering replacing them with guns similar in style, if smaller, to the turret cannon. Also, I wonder if I should add some insignia. Comments welcome.

Another great build :-* :-* :-*
Very Flash Gordon-esk.
This is a cracking project.
I like the guns the way they are.
-
I think the guns look great as-is. That tank is just wonderful. Keep up the good work.

For what its worth I think that the coils on the hull guns are perfect, I definitely dont think that you should remove them. If anything I would consider adding a similar (or possibly even bigger) coil to the turret weapon. The coils possibly stray a little towards the "Nuclear Age" stuff that you are trying to pre-date, but the overall effect is so nice that I think it would be a shame to remove them.
Is the Deathbot a scratchbuild too? It looks fantastic.
Brilliant work so far :)

Thanks all for the kind comments!
I've reconsidered and pondered quite ponderously the matter of armaments and have decided to go for variety, which is to say I've replaced the fixed gun in the turret with a short tube length which will be able to accommodate a variety of weapons; I'll build a slightly "heavier-looking" version of the hull guns first and see what else would look nice.

Got any WIP pics of that flying tank? I want a couple and am hopelessly creatively impaired.

No, I'm sorry about that - got carried away and built and primered it in one go, not thinking to take a single pic. It is very easy, however, and I could do a template sheet for people to print on A4 paper (or a colonial format if you require one).
-
I am liking what I see, and yes, the tank looks perfect, unless I have missed something! Liking the robot too, the twisted jokes and the retro look of it again reminded me of the Fall out universe, with that sex bot you have to pick up for that casino... *shudder*. lol
-
There's almost a Dune vibe to that skiff Chris. (movie adaption)
Brilliant work as always. And best of luck venturing into dimension x. lol
-
that skiff is great... I loved Undersea Kingdom as a kid and the Juggernaut... lol

Hi all,
got my Killer B order delivered earlier this week and managed to paint up the Protectorate Guard. Nice figures - I went for a scheme following some uniforms from the Flash Gordon comics and serials.

Great job! They would fit nicely to my WSD Khang Troopers...

Chris please bring this along when we next meet! Bloody beautiful!

I'm not too fond of the robot, but the tank is brilliant. Great design.
