I picked these little Gundam figures up from an ebay seller from France. Not sure what scale they are (each is about 35mm tall) but I'll be using them as 15mm power armour. They came in silver soft plastic and I've repainted in Zionist colours to match the Gundam animation. I'd like more of these.

I quite like those. Not sure I'd have gone for the brown colour scheme but it certainly works. Potentially versatile figures too.
-
Cool stuff :) . An aquatic assault force...some of my favourite Gundam mechs.
Brown is fine by me too...that is what the box art has in the larger model kit versions.
-
They're aquatic????? I need to watch more Gundam.

If you click the link, you'll see what I mean :) :

They are amphibious mecha, hence Ac Guy has torpedoes in his hand and they all have propulsion packs for water use.

Thanks Inso. I've only seen Gundam: The 008th MS Team and Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory, so I really need to see more.
-
I'm pretty sure these are gashapons, (collectables) which generally are made around the 1/300 or 6mm scale.

Add 0080: war in the pocket, and you've seen all the "good" ones imo. The original series was a SUPER corny kids saturday morning cartoon if you can stand that sort of show delivery it's not TOO bad.
-
Really, really awsome.

While I agree that the original series is hard to stomach at times, especially with the egregious use of "monster of the week" designs when they were pushing toys, 08thMS, 0083 and 0080 are indeed the best of the "classic" era (that said, the three "movies", e.g. cut-together episodes, do a good job of straightening out the storyline, and if you like 1970s animation, they might be the way to go).
The remaining series IMHO range from so-so (the Zetas and Victory) to "OMG what were they thinking" (G and the Wings), with the notable exception of MS IgLoo - that one is outstanding, although I haven't yet seen the "Federation-focused" season beyond the second episode, so it might actually crash and burn after that - but the original six episodes are awesome, if a bit eerie at times. I guess since you have to consider it the Japanese pop cultural equivalent of Star Wars and Star Trek rolled into one, it's just natural that over the course of 30+ years, they produced a lot of crap, too.

They're so cute!
-
All this talk of mecha and anime makes me want to finnish my 'Evengeligundam' project. Damn things being in storage :(
-
it's really amazing what sort of links there are even while just "listening" to threads ... I am DEFINITELY in the right place here ^^
best wishes

PS
cute little bots ^^

Agree with you there on pretty much everything :D 08th being the best with some of the better kits for it available.
My wife got me a huge G-Wing kit several years ago and I've seen various wonderful complete versions in Hobby Japan but I never got round to finishing mine (it's nearly two foot tall :o )
cheers

I will always have a soft spot for Wing as it was my introduction to the series. I have been saving for the new Heavyarms model when it comes out, to compliment the deatscythe my girlfriend wants, makes a nice duo.
I have recently started watching 08th MS, which I like besides from the design of the main gun-dams they are simply to "super robot" to fit in with the rest of the series in my opinion.
-
I have a bunch of the Gundam collectables. They fit in nicely with my Battletech figures. I also got a box full of ones that are about 1/3 the size. Still don't know what I am planning to do with them.

In Osaka we found a store that only sells Gundams:

But the mother of all Gundams was in Tokyo:

That's why I want to go to Japan!!
I've seen the video footage on youtube of that lifesize Gundam. Astounding!!! :o :o

It wa only there for a few weeks, we were lucky to see it, but, yes, being a geek in Japan is an accepted lifestyle and not an oddity.
I am certain that there is no equivelant area to Akihabara in Tokyo or Den Den Town in Osaka anywhere else in the world........
Five storey model shops opposite each other........
Manga in every convenience store.......
Five storey video game emporiums....
Pachinko parlours.....
and the kind of Internet Cafe which is miles away from anything seen in the UK.

Fantastic isn't it :D
Recently there have been complaints in certain parts of Osaka where there are lots of flats (or mansion housing as the Japanese call it, and every single one has a balcony) about the smell of spray paint. A lot of 'pla-modellers' have been using their balconies to spray their model kits parts and it seems to be getting a bit out of control so Osaka city council have opened up a series of small workshops that can be hired by the hour for the young modellers to do their smelly work when they need to :D
That five story Gundam shop is owned by Joshin which is like their equivalent of Currys or Dixons over here and there's a normal one just opened up last year near my in-laws house. Full of electrical goods and an incredibly well stocked model section (guess where I go for my evening constitutionals ;) ).
I still haven't been to see the real scale Gundam yet :( but I will do one day :)
cheers

Yay! Nipponbashi, I spent there whole days! :) Not as impressive as Akihabara, but still full of charming places! =)

Even the backstreet stores are good.

i totally love osaka... that's a great city!

Cool thread. I highly recommend "War in the Pocket".

I live i Japan and those things are crazily cheap and easy to find out here.

Is that an offer to become our import/export agent?

;) Mate, would gladly do it. But you might want to take a quick peek at the exchange rate. The pound is having it's arse handed to it by the Yen so it might end up pretty pricey for all you lot stuck in Merry Old England.
-
It was extortionate two years ago when I was there, the 105 Yen store was very popular. :D

And so, so much better than pretty much all of our cheap shops over here ::) lol

We travelled a lot and the vicinity of a 105Y shop, and a Mosburger, was essential............
-
1999. When I first came to Japan - 165 yen to the pound.
2004. My daughter was born - 252 yen to the pound (parents visited and were spending like Las Vegas high rollers!!)
2011. Global financial shit-storm - 126 yen to the pound. It is GREAT for me to buy stuff from the UK now :)
And Mosburger is fantastic. Shame the burgers are so bloody small :(

I do like the grease proof 'baggy' that they come in to catch the juices :D
