I received my "Author's Copy" today and I must say I'm very pleased with the job they've done. I don't know exactly when it will be released now, but I believe it will be some time in August.

Looking forward to these too. :D

AMERICAN CIVIL WAR OPEN DAYS!
FRIDAY 12th & SATURDAY 13th AUGUST
To celebrate the release of Foundry’s new American Civil War rulebook, ‘Bull Run to Gettysburg’, we will be throwing our doors open once again on Friday 12th & Saturday 13th of August!
For those who want to get a feel for this fast paced game, we will be running two special scenarios on Friday and Saturday. Gaming starts on Friday at 11am and 2pm, and on Saturday at 11am, and anyone is welcome to come along and join in the action.
The author, Dave Bickley, will be with us on Friday 12th and will be happy to discuss all things ACW related. So come and have a chat and pick up a signed copy of his new book.
We have also restocked our bargain bins to overflowing with a great selection of discontinued and bargain blisters and paints! Refreshments are on offer as always, and doors will be open 10am until 4pm on Friday, and 10am until 2pm on Saturday.
For those who register with us in advance we now have free parking!
(email sales@wargamesfoundry.com and let us know you want to register for free parking at the open day)
Celebrity status! :D

Can you give us a quick explanation as to how they work?

Can you give us a quick explanation as to how they work?
Infantry regiments are typically 4 - 6 bases (with 4 figs per base)
Cavalry units are typically 1 - 6 bases (with 2 figs per base)
Artillery are 2 bases per battery.
Turns are simultaneous.
Firing is 1 D6 per base with D6 added or subtracted depending on circumstances. A basic score which needs to be equalled or beat on a D6 causes a casualty depending on the weapon and range.
Hand to hand is similar. There are various results after conclusion of fighting.
Morale you roll a D6 adding or subtracting modifiers, with the action taken dependant upon why or what you are testing for.
Generals boost morale of units in command range and can add dice in close combat.
There are optional rules and a points system for those that are that way inclined (points are for cissies IMHO)
A typical rule set really. Which I believe give the flavour of an ACW battle, there are lots who will no doubt disagree as we all have our interpretations on what we read about the war.

Any idea what a decent army size for these rules is? (i.e. when do the work best)
Are there lists for other conflicts included?

The game we played on Wednesday, the Union force (Dave) had two brigades of 3 regiments each ( 5-6 bases each), one brigade had a unit of 4 bases of US Sharpshooters attached and one two gun battery. The Rebels (Me) had three brigades two with 3 regiments and 1 with 4 regiments (5 - 6 bases each) and 2 two gun batteries.
We played eleven turns in about four hours, with a stop for lunch and a beer.
Are there lists for other conflicts included?
No these are for the ACW only.

One of the downsides of reading Black Powder is the notion that armies have to be huge, I think I overestimate what I can use by a factor of 5! :o

Phil and I will be playing a second game today and I shall post a few pictures of that too, despite there being no real wargamers on this site... :D

Do you know, I really dislike the use of 'simple' as a description of my efforts? Surely you mean straightforward and clear ~ as opposed to complex, slow and pointless? ;)
By the by, I agree with you about the playsheet, as its not by me! Phil is making a new one for our games.

Good old Phil. Every home should have one................. :D

Agree simple was not the best word to use, I must congratulate you on your rules, they have encouraged me to play and start painting ACW again after many years of neglect. :)

Thanks for the write. Nice looking set-up too. I ordered a copy late last week and I am eagerly awaiting it's arrival!
Cheers,
