I finally managed to paint my first Lead Adventure miniature. The range has some amazing characters and I especially like the dudes with the gas masks! This guy was painted using the Army Painter dip and then highlighting over the dipped miniature. I've decided to give all my LAM dudes some kind of camo clothing (mostly the hooded jackets) so I don't really see the point in using this technique in hindsight. It probably makes more sense to use the GW washes except on the items of clothing without a camo pattern.
Now, I really need your opinion. Something is off with this one. Somehow I am not satisfied with the result. Besides the fact that I overdid the weathering, something else bugs me. So, if you have any suggestions, I'd be happy for them. This guy is supposed to be a painting try-out, so I am completely open to suggestions. Maybe you can help me out.

And now for something completely different. The lurch!
No, not really. We'll be using the LAM miniatures with, among others, the Flying Lead rules for which I've built some markers based on one cent coins. Initially I wanted to use them for the occasion a miniature is out of ammo, but since that state is rectified automatically at the end of the turn, that would make little sense. Instead they will probably be used as Jammed markers to show characters with jammed weapons. Both bricks and bullets are made from architectural polystyrene rods. The backpack is from some random Tamiya WWII set.

First, the figure looks quite excellent. Things I noticed would include the gun being VERY matte, which is obviously "realistic", but I wonder if our skewed wargaming aesthetics don't "click" unless the gun has some metallic sheen to it. Maybe a coat of gloss varnish with some metallic medium would be enough for that.
Next, the figure's skintone (as seen on the hands) is quite "healthy". The hands SHOULD be skintone, since they break up the othervise very "solid" appearance, but it could be construed as too rosy.
Third, the gasmask lenses look a bit solid, too. I usually paint in the exaggerated "gem" style, so may not be the best to ask, but maybe a pin highlight in the left upper quadrant, and a slightly lighter sheen might make them look more glassy.

I think he looks brilliant! Maybe just a slight darkgrey highlight on the shotgun?

wow! very nice

Very nice PJ.
Been staring at it for a while, and the only remark I could utter is the shoes.
They look crisp (specially the soles) , while you've painted dirt on the bottom part of the trousers.

not able to see it, damn firewall :(

I like the markers a lot! the empty bullets are great, i think i will do the same for my tokens! :)
Really nice miniature too! I agree with the previous comments, but i think that some vivid colours are really a good thing for a tabletop miniature! =)

I think he looks fine. He'll look different once his base is done so maybe you should do that and then see if you're still not happy.

Rubbish, come round to my house and get some more practice painting up my figures!
(do you think he will fall for it?)

Can't find any fault with your paint job!
I think it's really amazing! :o

I think as well, that they are technically quite amazing!
IF you'd force me to say anything, maybe the hem (?) of the jacket is a bit too dark (maybe due to the picture?)compaired to the rest of it ... it somewhat looks like You've forgotten to paint the camo there, but I suppose it is dirt.
Maybe a bit lighter mud-springes would do the trick ...
... but - well - actually it seems quite fine to me ... so, I wouldn't change anything at all!!
best wishes

Finaly I'm at home and able to see it.
Wow, boy, awesome painting, love the camo and the whole colour concept. Wouldn't change anything aprat from the gun, 1-2 highlights would be nice.
How Paul said, make the base and check it again. Would be great to see the finished version. And more of them ;)

Hey guys!
Thank you very much for your opinions and your kind words. Maybe I've been too negative toward this guy. The base will definitely be done the next few days in the same style as the markers and then I will post a picture again.
I will add some more lighter dirt to the hem of the jacket... That will definitely help. The rest of the guys will not be weathered that heavily tho (That might answer your question, Drachenklinge! :) Slightly too heavy weathering is the reason). I think I slightly overdid it here. And I will have a look at the shoes a bit. It's a bit difficult with their brown colour tho.
The next guys will receive some lighter gas masks. I can imagine that the dark colours (all intended... I wanted them dark and grimy) and an almost white mask might look quite good together. Something similar to the Eureka Russians by stone cold. And the skin will definitely be done a bit lighter and less healthy, while I will see what I can do about the goggles.
Thank you all again, guys! :) Very appreciated. And should you think of anything else... let me know.
EDIT: The shotgun is slightly highlighted, but the photo is swallowing up the colour transition... Humpf!
Sorry, Ssendam, no can do! :D

These two (the third with the shotgun I've shown you before) were on my desk for a while now getting slowly painted. My new work resembles slave labour, so my time has been reduced to scraps here and there.
Anyway... I don't have much to say about these, besides that they were enormous fun to paint. The guy with the belt fed PK has a very cool pose... Great miniature. Only thing I am not sure about is the weathering but it's a learning-by-doing process... :)

A thing of beauty (3 actualy )
That camo is awesome, as is the rolled up white/red blanket..
Coincidently I was thinking almost the same for the sneakers (mine are white with a red & green stripe)

Outstanding work. Really, really nice.
Thanks for raising the bar.
