Title: WIP - The Andromedan Project (COMPLETED January 18, 2012)
Post by: Froggy the Great on 05 August 2011, 07:39:29 PM
So Reaper's got some Andromedan figures by Patrick Keith:

And here's what I've done with them so far:
http://spielorjh.deviantart.com/gallery/?q=Andromedan

I decided to take the three base figures and see how many new Andromedans I could make.  So far so good.  Here's what I've got so far (top row is just basecoated, bottom row is darklined):

Mainly these are head- arm- and leg-swaps with other figures.  Most of these are Reaper, but I believe there's a Hasslefree lurking in there too.

Now, I've got a leftover Andromedan Huntress figure which donated its arms at the elbow and legs at the knee to some other worthy cause, probably one of the males, above.  She seems like she needs something done with her:

It is at this point that I crave your suggestions.  Some possibilities that have been suggested so far:
-Autopsy patient (rejected - ick)
-Cap off the arms and legs with capacitors and put her in a detention type thing like in Syndrome's lair in The Incredibles (rejected - I'd like to avoid even the appearance of porn)
-Wire her into a vehicle, sort of like GW's Penitent Engines (best idea so far, but which vehicle and how?)

What other ideas do you guys have?

The thing is - how "high tech" is that force intended to be? If they are somewhat advanced, using some bionics wouldn't totally be amiss, or alternatively, sand flat the leg joints, glue the figure to a console thingie, and paint her as a kind of communications holotank thing (as in Star Wars). I'm not entirely sure how you could pull that one off, but I agree that the other stuff seems a bit iffy.

I'm thinking they wouldn't be out of place in Flash Gordon, for some sort of benchmark.  They've probably got rocketships and their style puts the earthlings to shame, but nothing with rivets, grease, or "gritty".

You could put the head on a robed body, with sleaves so long the hands aren't visable.  Make her a servant/bodyguard/assassin to the apparently noble-person fifth in the second row.

If you think you can reconstruct the hands, mount her on a vehicle and don't worry about the legs.

If you want to get really wierd, you could just replace the hands entirely with blades or something and give her "robot pants".

Give her some kind of bulky blaster that fits over her hands.

With the work you have done so far, you could build up from scratch.  The non heroic dollies would work.

I use them for sculpting zombies.  Keeps my proportions right.

What about up those forementioned capacitors on her arms as 'powerfists' for want of a better name then either model her some new legs (you're a capable modeler) or model some robes on her?

As above.

Complete her with some space marine fists and 'boots', and call her a close combatant, wrestlers, whatever...

I second this option. I think a bodyguard or assassin would look cool.

How about some kind of gladiator?

I recently kitted out a Necromunda figure that had a missing leg (the joys of eBay!) with a plastic leg from a Necron. I used greenstuff to make it look like a added part. Perhaps this would be the way to go?

Boxing Helena in 28mm?

(rejected - I'd like to avoid even the appearance of porn)
:D

I've decided to try to fit her into a vehicle of some sort, and I believe I've got her to the point where I now need the vehicle before I know what other conversions I need to do on her.  Which vehicle and how has me rather stymied at the moment.

Edit:  I think I'm looking more along the lines of somewhere between power armor and vehicle, rather than a body wired into an MBT.

I've finished darklining the rest of the Andromedans, but haven't managed to get any more done beyond that.

This is going to sound really weird, but I realized at about 3am this morning that the cyborg part of the project, even though there's nothing inappropriate about it, has a hold on my mind as though it's way beyond the pale.  I can't explain it, I just get like that sometimes, and this project isn't worth my sanity.

Thus, I'm offering the cyborg bit on the Bazaar of Obscurities to the one who gives me the best reason they should get it:
