Something totally different.
While searching the net for suitable spaceships I stumbled over these.
Not an official release, but reminds me a lot of the 90s when I played Wing Commander for days and days...

Ohhh shiny.
Ahh, the memories…
That was some really good games.
Lovely painting (as always).
-
The heart of the tiger and his mate Angel would approve heartily! lol :D ;)
-
Someday, I'm going to have to start getting me some star ships!
Very well done Agis!

Now were is Mark Hamill when you need him...?
Have you considered any rules to use these with or are they just for painting ?
-
I was addicted to Wing Commander - and Strike Commander, Wings of Glory, etc...
Well done on the excellent spaceships - they look fantastic :)
-
Brings back memories.
It's been ages since I played a good space flight sim. Anyone know about a good one these days?

I am right now thinking about writing my own set of rules, it will take some time however...
-
Gotta love starfighter combat, shame there aren't really any decent rules out there except for silent death which has several of my cardinal sins for wargames - lots of different dice and too much book keeping.
-
OOP, but try Star Frontiers Knight Hawks. There are simple and expanded rules sets. A simple board game type of combat.
And if you like those look at www.starfrontiers.org for the KH Vector rules cooked up by that board's admin, Art Eaton.
Love it
LOVE it
LOVE IT!!!
-
IDK why, but that link ain't working. :(
-
Is Star Frontiers Knight Hawks able to represent WC style gaming?
-
I've seen some Full Thrust Kil'rathi fleets, somewhere. Since the Cygnus X-1 fleet site has been missing, I have trouble digging out old designs.
I may ask the Full Thrust mail group.

I looked up Knight Hawks , at 1st glance it looks a bit complicated to me.
Hexfields, vectored movement etc.

vectored movement is far too much hassle for a starfighter game. What about taking Bag the Hun and modifying that?

Hi again,
some more pictures of additional fighters from the Wing Commander I era...

Very nice work. :-*

Fantastic!
May I ask where the last few models were obtained? I can feel a spending spree coming on...

Thanks Agis! Now, where did I put my credit card?

It only looks complicated at first, like Crimson skies., And, yes, I'd say that KH is great for Wing Commander type action.
Did you look up ART Eaton's KH Vector? That one is a bit more complicated, but more realistic in the representation of movement. I don't use it myself, but the KH core rules. Those are posted free @ www.starfrontiers.com. You have to register there, but its free, and he doesn't keep track of downloads for wotc, just to keep certain individuals from overloading his boards (on purpose) Thjey are free to download. There is a simpl and advanced board game.
There are 2 main movement scores Acceleration/Deceleration Factor(ADF) And Movement Rating (MR).
A fighter Hull size one (about 10 meters long and 2 meters diameter) Has an ADF/MR of 5/5 That means the fighter can speed up or slow down 5 hexes per turn. There is no upper limit to speed, but you gotta be careful not to fly off of the board. MR means how many hex side facing turns per turn you can take.
The core KH weapons are assault rockets (5 meters long, the fighter's main weapon and only fighters and Assault Scouts carry them AS's are HS 3, 10-15 man ships) Laser battery, Proton beam battery, Electron beam battery , Rocket battery, (Fires a brace of rockets, slightly smaller than AR's) Torpedoes(Massive, 15 Meter long Nuke warheaded monsters which need a HS 5 Minimum to carry them) Laser Cannon (Also need HS 5 to carry, and Disruptor Cannon(A combinitatiobn of Electron and Proton beams but in one LARGE package.
AR's, Torpedos, L Cannon and Disrupror Cannon are Forward firing only, LB's, RB's, EB's, and PB's are 360 degree firing.
In KH, the weapons are artificially light per ship load, but that's for simplification of turns.
The turns are meant to represent instantaneous action
The side w/ imitative moves first, the second team has opportunity fire, the first team fires main weapons,The second team moves, the first team has opportunity fire, the second team's main weapons fire; next round.
Fast, exciting, there are shields for every weapon, and the game can be readily adapted. Some guys I know play Starfleet (Star Trek) battles with this instead of the official rules, they feel these are faster, easier, and more adaptable.

Hi again,
painted a Kilrathi Capital ship.
The Tri Claw heavy Cruiser:
IMO one of the best Kilrathis ship designs!
The funny thing is that the ship is not featured in any of the Wing Commander games, it is a design by Dreamfoundry!
http://www.shapeways.com/model/199672/tri_claw_heavy_cruiser.html?gid=sg42343 (http://www.shapeways.com/model/199672/tri_claw_heavy_cruiser.html?gid=sg42343)
It was a bit difficult to paint that one, since I made the error of ordering it in WSF, a horrible material in this scale, a lot of sanding was necessary - in the end it was still too rough...
-
They do look great. How do they scale up against the Silent Death starfighters?

The bases have the same size...
-
Love the models. Wing Commander I is one of those classic games you never forget and always will remember fondly. What was the name of that Kilrathi fighter with 6 laser cannons again? That thing was scary. One broadside could kill most unshielded ships.

Thanks thats great. Suddenly they become even more tempting. How are you getting on with rules to use with them?

Still only some rough draft.
Right now I think I am going to use ActA for the Fleet scale minis and some homegrown rules for fighter combat.
-
I really did all of the Kilrathi stuff you have been posting up, are you going to do any more of the Filid for ground actions? becase I would like to see more. :)

It might take some time, but I WILL build a complete army.
I ahve already all infantry, a 1/100 fighter and some gravtanks. We'll see...
-
Oh sweet! :o Cant wait to see them
-
Too bad the Tiger's Claw would probably be too big in that scale ;)
WC is really a great theme for a starship combat game. It's a shame no manufacturer has taken up on that franchise yet. Getting the license shouldn't be too expensive, considering the game series is pretty much dead (AFAIK).
Be sure to include those annying asteroid fields!
-
Well, on the WC Saga Forum was a discussion about getting a license. One guy claimed that EA has a strict $ 100.000 policy for every computer based license.
Don't know if it is true...
Anyway - in addition rumours are getting more solid right now that WC VI is coming!
-
$100.000 is really a lot for a boardgame license... I can't imagine Fantasy Flight Games paying that much to LucasFilm, and that was the Star Wars license for their new X-Wing game! :o
I'd guess that strict policy is rather focused on developers looking to make a new videogame, or even a new movie.
Well, there's always us fans to to do what the corporate rules won't allow in another way ;)
