To go along with my Hydra Miniatures collection of retro sci-fi figures I wanted to add a rocket or two.
I have plans for at least 4 different rockets, this is the first one...
You can read the tutorial of how I built it here...

Nicely done sir!

Nice, I cheated and just repainted some nice Peppa Pig ships on sale in Sainsburys.

I've got one of those too. It will feature in a future tutorial!

Very nice, and load of good stuff at your blog too!
Do you have any Wargames Supply Dump minis?
Or Killer Bee figs?
If so... Can you tell us how do they match scale-wise with the Hydra Miniatures models?
Thanks.

I am sorry to say I don't have any WSD or Killer Bee figures. I don't like the cartoon-ish proportions of those figures. If their heads were a little more in scale I would probably have bought the lot, it would certainly have been cheaper than ordering the Hydra Minis from the US...
The Hydra figures just appeal to my tastes more than the KillerBee/WSD figures!
I must admit I do like the Khang Troopers (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=2134.0).
Does anyone know if WSD will be eelling them again soon? Their website seems to be down, and has been for some time...

that is too sweet for words. I love it :-*

That's a lot of fun. Great tutorial too. :)
Are the other three going to be similar? I do like a nice set of fins on a retro rocket!

The other may not be quite so "Flash Gordon", possibly a little more 1950s than 1930s. I am sure they will feature plenty of fins with rocket motors on though!
btw, since posting the photos I have modified the ship with a top fin. I will post new photos in a day or two...

Great tutorial. I have 3 Retro Rockets of my own in the works. I have them slated to be crewed by the excellent Valkeeri models that were shown on here a few weeks ago. Some of your ideas will come in handy. Do you by any chance sell the laser cut legs that you make? I could use a few sets for these projects.

I hadn't considered it, but I suppose I could do...
Let me know what your after and I will work out the price!

At a suggestion after I posted the first lot of photos, I have just added a tail fin to the model.

Tail fin is exactly what it needed. That is a great build!
-
I agree with Darb. Great job with the add of the fin!
-
Yup - was very good before, but with the fin it's really super :D
-
Very muchly betterer :D
-
It looks even better now.
GOOD JOB!

Something simple. I like the ones you made. Approximately the same size would be fine. The most critical feature would be that the 3 parts of each landing gear assembly were separate so I could position them in relation to the varying curves of each ship and they would still rest flat with the ground/gaming surface. Does that make sense? Probably in sets of 3 (tripod arrangement). I could use at least 4 sets. Let me know if you need more information.

Spot-on! :D

WOW!! just great thanks :o :-* :-* Well I'm off to the store to see if they have this bubble gun. Yet another project to do.....
